STP took their sound from Extreme. They came long before. If you haven't heard more of their 80 stuff you really need to it's so great. Also need to check out Gary's stint with Van Halen! That album is pure gold a lot of people will disagree with me but I absolutely loved it! Fire in the hole, a year to the day, dirty water dog all crazy great
STP, Velvet Revolver, Pantera, "Bluesy"....you can add all adjectives and comparisons but they are all nonsense....EXTREME IS EXTREME!!! Plug your headphones and enjoy the ride!!
I agree their new 3 tracks released do not sound the same from their 90s albums, and I don't expect them to. Gary, Nuno, Pat and Kevin sound amazing! Very impressed. I look forward to their full album release on June 9th.
Extreme were more funky/bluesy rock in the past… i used to fast forward the CD to Nuno’s solo because i sometimes didn’t like the rest of the song. But this Album is definitely different. Much better. Reminds me of when Winger went darker in their Pull Album, but at least they all ways had these heavy chop guitar rifts.
The sound is undeniable. Lots of bands sound similar. Extremes sound changed from Pornograffiti days and went more post Grunge sound. But with Nuno, it's on a different level.

Yeah, a lot of people like to dump on VH III, but like you said, some solid tracks. 'From Afar' is my fav from that album
You should do Extreme's "Banshee". That song was released a couple of weeks ago on the same day as this one. Excellent song.
But Extreme only made 2 albums since “Waiting for the Punchline”. But Nuno playing is there as his signature style and you can tell it’s Extreme.

I've been a fan since the beginning. Definitely aging well. Fun fact...Nuno is self taught
