  • I thought it was the spark plug at first because I could not see the spark in the daylight. It turned out to be a small piece of debris in the carburetor because it started right away after shooting compressed air in the carburetor.

Had the very same problem with my two year old Craftsman Tiller today and thought there was no spark either. After watching your video I tried putting gas in the Carburetor it started...then stopped. Once I cleaned the Carburetor out it ran great! Thanks for the tip and saving me a trip to the store....or the local Small Engine Repair Shop!

I've had this about four months and have found it to be an aggressive and powerful rig. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxjo0FLo5z3Y_qUcT3vSlOqpMaMdFjvsXa I've used several others in the past and the Sun Joe surpasses these, easily. I note that several people have commented that it bounces on rocky and compacted soil. I believe that would be the case with all tillers - the ground does need to be "broken", either with a larger tractor type unit or with a shovel, and rocks need to be removed. I'm living on a Pike silt loam here in the midwest and the Sun Joe turns my garden to bug dust in two quick passes. I use a technique where I do a short 2 foot run then pull it back and let it go over it again.

the part of the video that shows you pulling the starter cord over and over is hilarious. Especially when you play it back at high speed and the whole tiller starts following you. I've done that myself so many times and I always feel like an idiot when that happens. Thanks for the laugh.

Thanks for the video, I broke off the plug on my bronco tilller with the 5.5 intek engine....2:38 told me to use a RC12YC after I get the old plug drilled/reamed out
PS shoot the plug with penetrating oil at least 1x per year to avoid embarrasment

THANK YOU! I have a Matis tiller with a Honda GX25NT3 25cc engine. I replaced the carburetor as the throttle cable stay had broken off the original carburetor. I found a replacement carb for less than $15 on Amazon, put it on the tiller and it started right up. I killed the engine and when I next tried to start it, I could not get it to run -just sputter a bit with starting fluid. Just when I was beginning to feel stupid and frustrated, I watched this video, removed to carb, shot some air through it, reattached it, and it started on the 1st pull. Must have got some dust in it. Again thanks.

Wow, never seen a pretty 4'x8' box rototilled. New by me.
I suggest using a trowel. For the plug, add a little axle grease to the threads for anti-seize.

That is also a first for me as well. I have never seen anybody rototill a planter box! It's physically exhausting just watching him do it LOL A shovel, rake, hoe, and my bare hands is all I need for that job. There is nothing wrong with spading soil with hand tools, It'll make a man out of ya!!

It's almost never the ignition system. when storing equipment for the winter good idea to remove all the fuel and burn off any residue by letting the engine run until it misfires due to lack of fuel. Fuel residue [ with all the additives ] tend to become gelatinous and block the passages. I love rear tine counter rotating tillers.

That engine makes me cuss. I had to laugh when you broke the spark plug as I did the same thing the first time it would not start. Here I am again pulling it out for the season and it is not starting. The float valve was stuck the last time but its free this time. Will have to go double check the plug and blow out the carb I guess.

Ya Briggs and Stratton...I remember when I was young Briggs was the only thing to have but then came Honda and blew them out of the water....them Honda are tough but you have to keep them on High test....normal gas does not cut it eny more....talt to JP about the Honda...all the small engines on the farm are Honda except chainsaw and whipper...but you can`t beet them but you pay a premium for them.....SALUTE

French River Springs no problem. todays Obama gas will gum up a carb if it sits too long. i had a carb once that was so bad my buddy that rebuilt it for me had to leave it in his acid bath for a week just to get it apart.

I do that on my old 91 Harley, a few blocks from home, reach under an shut gas off,
by the time I get to the house, she's sputtering, so till the next ride, no gas in the carb,
generators same thing. unplug the loads and then shut off gas valve. every few
months I start it up and plug a load in like a blowdryer.

My grandfather always taught me if you pull it over ten times and it doesn’t start that you definitely need some viagra...
Nah jokes aside over ten pulls and something is wrong stop pulling and change or clean check spark plug, drain fuel if old and if that doesn’t do it then you need to go deeper, check filters, throttle working n then carby...
