I hope they make a game where you start out as a prisoner that is about to be executed when suddenly a big dragon appears and attacks the place. You escape and eventually discover that you have the power to absorb a dragons soul and are able to use there language and go off to stop the big dragon from destroying the world. I don't know I'm just stroking ideas here.

"Legends of Runeterra" sounds like an mmo or card game. All the esport stuff has me thinking card game though, which is pretty much a pass for me. Make an MMO, set it in current Runeterra, have your character be a recruit for one of the main factions army and work his way up the ranks. The archetypes for classes are all there, mages, fighters, engineers, mystics, etc. Have raids where we explore the Void and the Isles, then we can even have the bosses be characters directly from League, the big mysterious baddies of their respective domains. Imagine fighting your way through Malzahar to access a void portal, getting in and, aided by Kassadin, working your way through until you reach a big arena and suddenly it's Cho'Gath in his canonical size**. I'd play it, and I could probably drag my LoL addicted friends who won't touch MMOs into it, since they would probably enjoy it more than playing League nowadays. **This is all coming from my knowledge of the previous, superior lore. Pretty sure Kass is still a good guy?
The class system (or whatever else) necesary for an MMO is what causes me headaches... I agree the basis is there but blowing that up in an "new and refreshing" way... difficult. Also the question remains how the skillsystem will work, as "traditional MMOs" like WoW initialy had a much slower pace but way more options than waht is present in LoL. But then again, they would be dumb to just try and copy the gameplay...
It doesnt even have to start in runtera, you could just pick a champ(for example, you like irelia, you pick irelia and start in ionia) ... It could be so much fun but these degenerates dont realise that

League is technically a rather weak game and owes much of it's success due to being one of the first MOBAa, not due to technical excellence. I'm not sure that would cut it in an established field like MMOs. Riot will need to learn to write good clean code, which is not something they've done before!
Legends of runeterra huh? I don't know it just screams television series to me. Like telling the legends of the champions from runeterra that we have all grown to love. Everyone loves their cinematics and keeps begging them for movies so I wouldn't doubt it

Actually i hope they go for mobile earlier.... Tencent requested riot to make a mobile moba years ago..... but riot rejected it. So another workshop under tencent make the moba tencent want according to league, Arena of valor aka King of Glory.... League cannot sue or do anything since they were under the same company. Now the workshop took the credits lol.
I honestly think it's not them going for the mobile market but buying trademarks so other companies can't. They have to protect their trademark and despite there being tonnes of ripoffs anyway it was the best they could do.

I think it's gonna be a "MMORPG" but not cooldown based, WOW style game. It will be heavily influenced by fighting games. There will be a CCG and mini element that you scan into your phone. The cards and minis will tie into the game, but a stand alone game that will allow theory crafting that will also work in game.

Bear in mind that Riot is now owned by TenCent (Chinese) and any future titles will be highly influenced by them. Any new game will be highly monetized just as any TenCent published game is, no matter if it is a mobile or PC game.

No good MMO since WoW? Umm... GW2 and DDO? Terra also seems neat (its combat anyway), but I didn't touch that thing due to way too high levels of degeneracy in it. Though if they make an MMO, I hope it will be a new gen type of thing where they think outside the box and that they don't copy/paste stuff from WoW (especially its dull combat).
Bring the Lore and everything back to that game if it's a game! The News of Runeterra and all were so interesting then! Like how the war between Demacia and Noxus was going, the voids, even items like Wriggle's Lantern was spoken about.

They've already confirmed numerous times they are making a new game, but Legends of Runeterra might not be the title for it

the "roleplaying game manuals" under paper goods is suspicious..and they've been pretty picky about getting the lore 'fixed' for LoL.
