@ybhutta Thanks for the comment. It started on a Friday afternoon and ended on a Saturday afternoon. This style is Shotokan Karate with a little bit of Jiu-jitsu and Kick Boxing to round it out.
I like that the kid is really trying and all, but there's no way he was actively doing karate for 20 hours. Maybe the whole test was done over the course of 20 hours as a 2-day test. That's impressive on its own. No need to make it look like the kid didn't sleep for 20 hours! A black belt test SHOULD be two nights. And for that I say well done.
Amazing to see this level of performance in a 9-year-old. Excellent speed, power, focus, intensity. Great you do jujitsu as well - pull in the grappling & striking arts All the adversity which you have undertaken voluntarily, will serve you in good stead when Life deals you whatever Adversity it has in store. Highly inspiring.
I love the valiant effort - only those who have been through this harrowing process understand the enormous effort and the huge will to continue and concur one's self: This is the beauty of Karate - even when you are sprarring with someone else you are effectively sparring with your own weaknesses and nurturing and building your strengths. Love the video, well done - and I say that humbly
wow....20 hours...I won't be complaining about my tests anymore. That's INTENSE. Was there any breaks? Water? Bathroom? I saw a bunch of gatorade off to the side. I wanted to cry watching his pain through that...Good Job Brent!! That's pretty inspiring! I'm nearing Black Belt myself. I look for stuff like this for motivation, an this did it! Congrats on that Belt, you definitely earned it!!
When I first started watching this clip I thought that this is another school that gives away black belts to anyone who trains for a couple of years. I'm very glad that I watched it to the end, you definitely proved me wrong! I've been training in Okinawan karate for 20+ years and I am very impressed by the well rounded skills that you and your fellow dojo members have learned. So from New Zealand, keep up the hard work Brent, I'll be showing my kids this video to motivate them to train as hard.
hard work and dedication, spirit, honor, humbleness, awareness, and the most important, will, this young man, deserves his rank, as well as the respect that it comes with, congrats to him!
Sure, 20 hrs non-stop. Point is simple - anyone can do karate and make it look good when your fresh. It's only when the body is completely exhausted will you see the true level of someones training. The body relies on "muscle memory" and for those who train hard, it shows. This kid started at 3 years old.
Sure - Canada's Best Karate studies Shotokan Karate, Jujitsu and Muay Thai. We have several World Karate champions and several Canadian Kick Boxing Champions.
The students can drink and take energy food between sets - for instance when a student is doing an individual Kata. They burn through so much water that peeing is not an issue.
Dang, Good work kid. Im a 4th brown, And I take my Black belt test next week, But its only 2 hours.... I want a school like this... Where you can say, I went through 20 hours for this belt.... We don't have that down here in texas...
im doing karate now and i am a blue belt i still have a bit to go but a my dojo when people are going for their black belts u cant film and they are sworn to secrecy not to tell anyone what they do for the test i cried at the end he did a good job
well done kid! ive been doing shoto budo karate for 4 years now im 13 and im 2 brown stripes so i have 4 belts left before black! well done on your black belt!
not being a hater or something, but i have two questions: 1. 20 hours non stop? (if this is real, what's the point seriously?) 2. a 10 year old kid gets a black belt, what age did he start i wonder?
i am so crying in the video you are the best black belt in the dojo.i was crying because you took that long to put chines words on your belt great job. congragilations. i dont no how to spell congragilaions
hold on a second here if it took seven years lets do some math here, if he is ten and had been training for seven years that means he must of been train at 3 years old. . . . . . say what!
so you're saying after a 20 hours of non-eating, non-drinking, non-peeing and non-pooing exam, only THEN you start to see what truly is in a person? i do get the point of doing an exam while being exhausted, but to me, 20 hours straight without ANY break of any form is unbelievable to me and if you have energy to still do whatever you were doing in your exam after 20 hours, it is still hard to believe to me xD

@1banryukyu Agreed, and only when the training is consitent, otherwise the skills erode over time - not like riding a bike at all is it?
Boden is 2nd degree and Brent is 1st degree black belt
Breaks only happened when others were doing individual presentation, but no specific breaks. Thank you for the warm comment.
Thank you Superdog.

He had to do this test 3 time. Part 1 was his first time and Part 2 was his third. I havn't put up his second test. They are all 6 months apart.

A black belt is not the end of the journey, it's the beginning...
Thanks - only minimal breaks
No, there are many degrees of black - 10 in total - and takes a lifetime to acheive.
Is it non-stop? In part 1 he had longer hair and his hair is short in this one.
That is one badass ten year old
His dedication and discipline are incredible and inspiring. How has this not received over 100K views?
