still have my 2003 GS that my high school son now drives. Has ZZP high ratio rockers, headers, PCM tune, CAI, 3.4 pulley and makes about 315 HP. It now has 180K on the clock and still runs great and gets 28 mpg driving 75+. Love that car.

No, the GSX did not stand for Grand Sport Extras. It stood for Grand Sport eXperimental. Just like the 1987 Buick GNX stood for Grand National eXperimental.
The sticker on the filler door is not an indicator that this was modified by SLP. The supercharged 3800, regardless of platform, required premium fuel.
Interesting information offered here. I noticed @ 6:30 into the video it is mentioned that the engine Buick used in these cars the 3100s came supercharged. That would be erroneous data for the 3100 cars as a rule of thumb. The 1997.5-2004 Buick Regal LS would be offered with a NA 3800 where the same year Buick Regal GS would be offered with the 3800 Supercharger. 2003-2004 I believe were the only years that SLP were involved in making the "GSX." There is a GM 3100 (3.1L MPFI Engine) that did see boost, however, those were not supercharged but turbocharged and were pretty rare to come across. That 3.1 liter would be the same engine found in the Cavalier Z24, Pontiac Grand Prix, the Chevrolet Lumina EuroSport...etc. The boosted version of this same engine could be found in only 2 to 3 cars I believe. The Pontiac Grand Prix from the early 90's and also on one of the most rare Pontiac Trans-Am GTPs in the early 90's. I don't know everything about everything for certain, but I had hoped to present a chance to introduce those who might be interested in a boosted 3100 to find one. Check out Classic MotorWeek on youtube and you can find the cars with the 3.1 MPFI Engine that came boosted with a Turbo. Love the channel btw, keep it coming!
The 3100 was in the 97-04 Century, when it was built on the W body platform. It was basically the same car as the Regal at that time, but with the smaller engine and base suspension. The Regal of this body style had the 3800 sometimes with supercharger

Was really good but your information on the button on shifter being overdrive is wrong. It's a performance shift button that firms up shifts. Only the early 98 to 2000 models had it.
Great engine even in basic non-modified form but SLP did some great work , definitely. A nice touch would have been an analog Boost Gauge either in the dash or on the A Pillar.

Hello from Austin Texas USA.
James, first and foremost I have to say, I loved that filming location, it was very appealing! Your history on the GSX brand was awesome, from how well spoken you are, to your inserted graphics! Your camera work is getting so refined, for example, I loved how you had the horizontal shot of the inside of the trunk lid and then twisted the camera to make the sideways sticker right side up for the viewers; very smooth and very nice! I still love your traditional shot of opening the door when showing the interior, and yes, most 1990s and 2000s cars had very cheap, plastic interiors, GM being among the worst. You're just not used to a non luxury car, being a Cadillac guy, and was more disappointed than the typical person would have been! 😂 As usual you're very thorough, informative, honest and entertaining. Awesome job and thank you for another great video!
Well James, I have to cancel my subscription, sorry, but no drone shot or pony tail... really?🤔 J/K, honestly a great video. For some reason my 30 year old daughter just loves Buicks, she is on her 3rd, 1 Buick Lucerne and 2 Lesabres. I believe The original GSX stage 3s had the highest torque (510) of the muscle car era. (The 427 hi performance special ford racing motor was higher but not really a street motor). Thanks again James✌
I remember looking at that car. They were overpriced and ugly, I did kinda like the interior though. Decided on the Kia Stinger gt awd. Same price point back then, think I paid 36k for mine. Stinger has been nothing but reliable and a joy to own. It's funny cuz the Stinger is kinda "rare" in my area but that 2020 Buick Regal gs is even rarer. Literally have only seen 2 since 2020. The one I looked at back then and 1 on the road. They are more a 🦄 then this Regal gsX was back in the day.
I'm glad you mentioned the gear shift knob. When I first saw it I thought "Good Lord what is that thing?" It is not very graceful looking. Also, it's a shame neither GM nor SLP didn't put a little more effort into sportifying the interior; maybe make it a little more worthy of GSX name.
Very good video production and info, but I question the fuel fill door sticker as being SLP origin. Buyers could have a Regal GS from GM with the supercharged 3.8 which would also require premium fuel. So maybe not on that detail. Especially if this was a Regal LSX from SLP (this cars N/A sibling). The N/A would not require premium fuel even with the SLP conversion. Also surprised you didn’t mention the factory performance shift feature button on the shift lever! Regardless, thanks for the video and hats off the careful owner!!!!!
I have the rear slp exhaust cutouts on my GS and the SLP Stage 3 badges as well. Only thing I couldn’t buy was the grill they are hard to find now. All the SLP stuff is hard to come by now. I bought the last set of cutouts from SLP on eBay. One correction is the supercharger is on a 3.8 not a 3.1 the 3.1 is in the Buick century the Ls is a 3800 NA engine. But nice video cool to still see this car again.
300hp in 2003 was a very big deal, Imagine buying a New Edge Mustang GT(270HP) sitting on top of the food chain just get get dusted by grandpas grocery sleeper. Simply Love it
I've always heard the opposite. The plastic intake manifold on the NA motor can warp and cause coolant leaks, the SC motor has a metal intake manifold that doesn't have any issues. I'm not aware of any flaws with the SC motor, other than the plastic elbows in the coolant system. But if they're changed with the heater hoses, that shouldn't be an issue. Car Wizard put it right - best engine ever made, for the money. If you have the money to maintain a Ferrari V12, you probably aren't too interested in the 3800 SC.
Love the car. However I believe they should have built an SLP Riviera. Its a coupe it has a hard top so it didnt have the door "frame" (I dont know what you call it, but in the riviera, when you opened the door, you didnt have the "TOP PART", just the bottom of the door). Yeah a Sporty SLP Riviera would have been amazing. The Riviera is the best car that had this SCharged 3800 in it. Also they should have added the HUD in the Regal and Riviera like the GTP had.
I've heard that design feature on the Riviera called "frameless" doors or frameless windows. Ford marketed some cars in the 70s with this configuration as the "pillared hardtop".
I agree that the Riviera was the best car to get the 3800 SC. Been saying that for a while! It isn't hard to "roll your own" performance Riviera. You can do better than SLP for less money. No fancy badges though. The Riviera didn't have all the whiz-bangs it should have, but a loaded Riviera already cost as much as a base Corvette. It's still an amazing car if you're impressed by things like reliability, reliability, and more reliability. It also has great styling (IMO, not everyone's) and was pretty quick for the time. I really think it's one of the best 90's cars to own, if you like the styling.
Got my first speeding ticket at 16 in that car;) Then my parents were stupid enough to buy me a Z28. That car provided 40+ speeding tickets and chicks galore;)
Okay so after watching this video I'm kind of confused because my stock Buick Regal GS came with an identical interior with wood grain and the boost gauge that you thought was extra, that's actually stock.
I’m gonna start a new rule. Next time I hear a UA-camr say “without further ado, let’s get started“ I’m going to unsubscribe and never watch that channel again.
My 2002 Regal GS has something the GSX doesn't have and that is black interior. Its a Joseph Abboud version. I have never seen another Regal of that generation with black interior and its also black on the outside. All of them have gray interior. Have a new crate motor from Summit racing dynoed at 329 HP. 60 to 100 MPH is almost scary. The weak link in these cars is the transmission input shaft. Its easy to snap it in half. When I swapped out the engine I installed a beefed up input shaft from Intense Racing
I don't believe GM made a manual strong enough for that motor, in a car that weighs as much as a Regal. Fiero owners who swap the 3800 SC may be able to get away with it. For a while.
How is it that this has 15 more horsepower than my 01 SSEi and my 0-60 is the same and my car is a tad bit heavier? The Regal suppose to be the fastest out of all of the supercharged GM fleet from 97-03 of this era
One thing I always hate about specialty cars is he badging they put all over them. Best speciality car ever was the 1969 ZL1 Camaro for few reasons. 1. It’s a first gen Camaro the best ones. 2. The mighty all aluminum 427 which truly made over 500 hp stock. 3. Absolutely no badges and looked like a v6 car exactly what you want when you actually bought the baddest muscle car ever made imo.
The 3800 supercharged is such an underrated reliable engine. The “W-Body” GM cars are great, I have Allure/LaCrosse and it’s been fantastic
I absolutely love my 2005 Grand Prix, despite all of its problems from poor previous owner care. The 3800, however, has been flawlessly reliable.
I too am a huge W body fan. Two of my dream cars are a 2002 Grand Prix 40th Anniversary Edition or Oldsmobile Intrigue Final 500.
Dream car of mine is a 2008 Buick allure super with the 5.3L v8
and they had tuning potential
I believe its the best internally balanced engine produced to date
The later series of the 3800 was reliable and well suited to being paired with the supercharger. Nice to see this Buick in such pristine condition.
Every series of the 3800 all the way back to when it was a 3.5 turbo in the gnx has been an amazing engine.
@@erisgh0sted961 there is no such thing as a 3.5 turbo Buick

I'm not aware of any flaws with the SC motor, other than the plastic elbows in the coolant system. But if they're changed with the heater hoses, that shouldn't be an issue.
Car Wizard put it right - best engine ever made, for the money. If you have the money to maintain a Ferrari V12, you probably aren't too interested in the 3800 SC.
These got heads up display?
🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 *CONGRATS on 5,000 subs* !! #JamesWasylyshyn
🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 *GREAT video on the Buick GSX* !! *Thanks for the details on this muscle car* !! #JamesWasylyshyn
Nice to learn about production of these GSXs _ Wonder if manual transmission was offered, would be a plus, but probably not offered???
Was not available at that time
Sick intro. Subbed so quick i broke my damn mouse
I needdddd it. I wonder how many were made I’ve never seen one for sale
Does anybody know the exact rims called ? I know there z06 but still can’t find them .
Nice
Im wondering if any were sold in Canada 😐
Got my first speeding ticket at 16 in that car;) Then my parents were stupid enough to buy me a Z28. That car provided 40+ speeding tickets and chicks galore;)
nice video! how the hell does this car only have 9000 miles??? nice owner i guess
Are those beetle headrests
Ooooomyyyy 🦄 💎
That era Rega/GSX was a corporate clone to the Impala. How was the steering on it?
Okay so after watching this video I'm kind of confused because my stock Buick Regal GS came with an identical interior with wood grain and the boost gauge that you thought was extra, that's actually stock.
Where were the owners manuals in the glovebox?
How did I miss this one ?
way cool!
Has anyone done a manual swap on the early 00 regals? Cant find anyone that gets rid of the 4t65e
I don't believe GM made a manual strong enough for that motor, in a car that weighs as much as a Regal. Fiero owners who swap the 3800 SC may be able to get away with it. For a while.
Theres a ton of guys who swap their gtp grand prixs with the same drive train
I didn’t know they made a GSX after the 1970’s. I would’ve bought one or at least searched a used one out.
I think that 0 to 60 time is off. It should be quicker than 7.9
Probably not, that time sounds about right.
Should be around low 6s. My comp g gtp hits around the low 6s and it has similar mods.
The century had the 3.1 most if not all regals came with the 3.8
And the gs was supercharged.
Is this gsx for sale
Are thosr avaible in europe ?
Not that I know of! But who knows, maybe some could have been exported by their owners. Thanks for watching!
Is this car for sale?
Such a clean Regal💙
@@rooker_man Gsx i mean❤️
I had the grille & badges on my gs , sold the car but should’ve kept the grille at least lol can’t find it NO WHERE ONLINE 🤦🏾♂️
8 seconds to 60 with all those modifications... I had an 98 ssei Bonneville and thats what it did bone stock... I find that odd. Who knows.
He must not have been pushing it. The car should be much faster.
How is it that this has 15 more horsepower than my 01 SSEi and my 0-60 is the same and my car is a tad bit heavier? The Regal suppose to be the fastest out of all of the supercharged GM fleet from 97-03 of this era
Would you sell it?
One thing I always hate about specialty cars is he badging they put all over them. Best speciality car ever was the 1969 ZL1 Camaro for few reasons. 1. It’s a first gen Camaro the best ones. 2. The mighty all aluminum 427 which truly made over 500 hp stock. 3. Absolutely no badges and looked like a v6 car exactly what you want when you actually bought the baddest muscle car ever made imo.
Man if these cars were rear wheel drive like the Holdens with the same powertrain...
Disappointed only 7.9 0-60 I had the turbo GN was hoping a little faster but nice car
Even a stock GS should be good for a sub 7 second 0-60. He may not have been pushing it, and the tires are probably old and hard too.
6:30 why are u even talking about this car if u dont know what engine is in it????
If you took your arm hair down to a number 2 in clippers there all universal for size no matter the brand you would be alot more comfortable
GSX stand for Gran Sport Experimental, not extra. And the GSX went to 1974
should of put a 5.3 LSA 4 engine for GSX
The GSX 1/4 times were reported low 14’s
Did he really say the motor is a 3100. Also take off the traction control when doing speed runs.
