Yeah the weaponry was cool. There were M1A1 Thompsons and M1 Carbines in it too if I remember right. And not all the bad guys had AK47s. Most of them actually had PPSh's, SKS rifles, and Mosin-Nagants.
@@bruhtholemew looking at the gaming industry now, I would consider this type of games as great and not mid. Atleast they gave us memories. I cant say the same about modern gaming. Nowadays I tend to mostly play indie games
Ah Men of Valor, loved this game on my Xbox. was always a blast in Coop and local MP. But damn at times this game was hard... Call of Duty, Medal of Honor: Frontlines and Men of Valor. The tripple crown for me for historical shooters back then.
I played this one as a kid, loved it. There were a few Vietnam themed war singleplayer FPS games back then but three stuck with me as most memorable: Men of Valor, Vietcong and Shellshock: Nam
Once I watched my buddy play through this again, I was immediately broken of any immersion, after hearing Jarl Balgruuf's voice come out of the reporter character.
Isn't it crazy how seeing this old game makes me more excited to play it than most of the games they're making today? It's shows how important the feeling/atmosphere of a game is, you can just tell that a lot of love went into this.
I love how realistic the scenery looks in this game despite not playing it before, really nailed the look of Vietnam by the looks of things, also another good Vietnam War game I have heard of is Vietcong on PC, Men of War Vietnam also on the PC and Conflict Vietnam on the PS2
1:27 I love how this allows the player to create some of their own visual storytelling. The way a boring moment explodes into violence and the football is tossed away, forgotten by the other men in the scramble to arms. The player whistfully chucks the football, thinking "damn, that would have been a great pass."
What I liked about Men of Valor was that it didn’t do the cartoon caricature of Vietnam like some of the other games of its time did (and still do to this day).
Oh man! I played the hell out of this game back in the day... Finished it several times. Hahaha... I remember this gaming making my PC cry to run it. Good times.
I bought this game retail around 2005-2006ish for like $10 and have been a long time fan. It's still a great game. Very immersive and they actually tried to do the topic justice and had respect for the subject matter. This game is very challenging. The bleed mechanic was really neat.
Played it on a Geforce4 MX 440 and it supposed to not work but the OEM drivers that came with the card somehow supported this game! Any Nvidia update I install the game had artifacts. It's been almost 20 years now!
just finished this game recently... the game is truly long and extremely war packed.. even in low difficulty the enemies are with so much good ai. even the environments are amazing. it covers almost every part of the Vietnam wars
I saw 5 mins of this video and bought it on steam, very well made game, great voice acting and fantastic score. A true gem, I'm surprised I've never heard of it until now.
This is a great example of why sound design is so incredibly important in a game. A good soundscape, voice actors etc. immediately, pull you into the action. Pair that with some good set pieces, pacing and gameplay and you will be immersed before you know it. Even if the graphics are already dated.
Oh man the last time I thought about this game, I was reading about it in Official Xbox Magazine in like 2004. Never played it but maybe it’s worth checking out 20 years later lol
I forgot about this game. It was a good one. Their banter at the beginning reminded me of Bad Company 2. I hope we get a Battlefield Bad Company 3 at some point.
I have extremely fond memories of this game. Specifically the copy of the game I have is super glitched, all of the NVA/Vietcong are stuck in T-pose. Could never fix it, Was hilarious.
😂 immersive atmosphere? I recall some teammates wouldn't die after multiple hits. And invisible walls in tree lines. The gameplay felt very call of dutyish. Push forward enemies stop spawning, I had a weird sound glitch every so often. Also if I recall 1080p didn't fit the screen properly. Vietcong man was a good Vietnam game 👍
played it religiously for a long time. Eventually just stopped playing because i couldnt get past the ridiculously annoying unskipable death letter cutscene EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU DIE.
Man, at least once a month i got some new game that i never even heard of, i almost Feel like it is a mandela effect that they are trying to put on me u know, like, the game is brand new, but they said that is from the early 2000s lol.
I doubt that more games (or even movies) will be made about Vietnam. Since the Americans can’t brag about the war in Vietnam, since they have miserably lost the war
Great game. Always loved the historical accuracy of the Marines using M14s in 1965-1966 and then switching to the M16 in 1967 and on. Great detail.
Yep agreed

This is what's missing today.. No one makes story driven games like this. Can you imagine a Men of Valor remaster in Unreal 5? Would be insane.

Fun fact- Sean Astin is in this game, he voices Hodges.

The details are very nice. I love the foliage density. Makes it feel realistic and gives it bags of atmosphere and character.
I used to love this game because it was one of the few that actually had thick, dense jungles where you could hide fairly well.
