How to wake up & activate brand new TPMS sensor.
If you bought a brand new sensor and it appears to be dead - you try to scan it with TPMS tool and nothing happens, chances are it is just needs to be activated, or woken up. These sensors come dormant from the factory to prevent batteries from discharging while sensor are still sitting on the shelf in the store or warehouse.
To activate brand new sensors, install them onto the wheels, inflate the tires to normal operational pressure, and then try to trigger them with the TPMS tool. It should work most of the times. If it still doesn’t, try releasing the pressure continuously for at least 3 seconds while triggering the sensor. This should wake up the sensor and you should be able to register it now.

hi dear , we are TPMS manufacturer , contact me for best factory TPMS price
SO WOULD THESE SCAN TOOLS WORK ON OEM TPMS SENSORS???
Yes
Man, I have to buy a specific stupid tool just for tire pressure sensing? foolish tech , I'd rather go back to having cars just not equipped with this, it's not like it's hard to tell when you are low by air in a tire for crying out loud. The tire dash light doesn't bother me enough, I'll just leave it, f that. Or take apart the dash and get rid of the led.
Cause taking apart the dash and taking the light out is sooooooo much easier then just buying a 15$ tool
I mostly agree with you and get what you're saying, but a TPMS sensor can give you an extra few seconds or minutes to pull off (or at least reduce speed) before a catastrophic blowout happens. But yes, it should be a habit to regularly check your pressure. I do once a week, especially during temperature changes.
Compra o FORScan e um elm237 e desabilita a função no painel foi isso que fiz
@@averyscar3132 It is, it's free and a permanent solution to a problem.
Yeah, some are much more annoying than others. My wife’s car gives me a TPMS error message and the flashing indicator all the time that’s annoying as f. My Tacoma on the other hand, only has the indicator light that stays lit which is perfectly fine by me. Totally agree with you though, what a PITA.
I have a set of wheels that I had put aside for six months after installing the TPMSs in the wheels, car didn’t recognize the sensors when I reinstalled the wheels, your tip on waking them up by letting the air out for 3s seems to have woke them up and the car now sees the sensors. Thanks! Saved me a trip to the tire shop.
Did you trigger with tpms scanner the same time you released the air 3 second or not? Thanks
Just so you're all aware in case your pressure light is on and you think the problem is one of your main 4 tires has a bad sensor make sure you check the spare tire as it also has a pressure sensor
That bit me on my wife's 4runner. I was scratching my head for a while, until my wife came out and said "did you check the spare?"
😁👍🏼 Wife got a point on this one!
@@skeet25shope you gave her a nice little spanking after that one 😆
This worked, thank you! I had only done TPMS relearns four or five times before, and I had never ran into a sensor that wouldn't trigger with my Autel MX808S-TS (other than known bad ones). I had four new OEM Ford TPMS-35 sensors installed today and one wouldn't trigger when I tried a relearn. I tried three times and was convinced that I had a defective one.
After watching your video I tried to trigger it while releasing air from the valve stem, and after about four or five seconds it still wouldn't trigger. I stopped releasing air and was ready to give up on it and heard that beautiful "beep beep beep beep" and looked down to see that the sensor had been recognized! I was literally in the process of standing back up when it triggered.
Great!
I have the same exact issue now with new wheels all but one doesn’t want to train did the same as video ? Any ideas?
Thank you for the video , despite the fact that I don't yet have a sensor scanner .
Thank you for the video. I was wondering why I cannot scan my brand new out of the box REDI-Sensor and I was about to return it. I'll get it installed and then try scanning it.
👌🏼
I have a toyota and the software to input the new sensor ID. It shows on the cars computer now but will I need another tool? Can I install and using the toyota software check things? Under the dash of my prius there is a tire pressure system reset switch. Maybe I'll need to hit that also.
Does not work. Brand new sensor. Deflated, drove around, inflated etc, no change.
Bought Bosch sensors for a Tacoma. My Autel 508 wouldn't program it. After investigating, I need a $1,000 tool to program them.
TPMS what a big waste of $$$. Automakers please stop trying to help us. You aren't!
No, it didn't work. I'm at a loss.
What If I buy a regular tire or tires for spares and I have the current ones. Do I still need to program the sensors on the new spare? And I am not talking about the emergency spare.
Depends on how your car is. Most cars dont have spare tires included in TPMS ECU.
Doesn't work.
Unfortunately it did not work for me!! It's' a brand new sensor to????
It's a good tip but didn't work for me. i installed new sensors bought from Amazon. None of them working 😮💨.
Same happening here, new from Amazon. 2012 Silverado, can’t get them to relearn with snap on computer either. Thinking we both got faulty sensors. .
What can you clarify what you mean?
I bought a 4 pack last year from amazon marsflex, only needed 1 but, only 2 worked of the 4.
I got from the continental (redi-sensor) tech line that Autel's maxiTPMS tool won't activate their "new generation" sensors. Never had a problem before...
Having the exact same problem with continental sensor
Miller Dorothy Lopez Gary Young Ruth
doesnt work
Nope that didn't work either
damn, so im planning to buy new aftermarket wheels and this is the shit i gotta deal with 😭💀
I have unreadible only one sensor and as per instruction I must have possibility to read all sensors ID from the car and after to copy to new one.But I can not on bmw g30 2017,2019.
After I wake them up, My Saab 9-3 will already know which rim they are on. Saab does this by signal strength from each sensor. It's just a matter of kicking them out of bed! LOL! I'll probably end up trying the deflation method. They are MoreSensor compact pro TX-K001 sensors. What's your take on this?
Suzuki Vitara S. I did manual tpms reset procedure and programmed all id's (automatic re-learning didn't work). I hope successfully as at the end tpms led was solid for approx. 5 sec which means success as far as I found. However I have another problem. After turning ignition on and reaching approx. 30 km/h, tpms led is blinking showing with this blings digits 1,2,3 and next it blinks for approx. 10 km-12 according to sequence "long off, short off". After approx. 10-12 sec it blinks agains digits 3, 2, 1 (in reverse order, each digit is being blinked few times) and then I got the correct pressure values displayed when I enter tpms menu (earlier there is nothing). Do you perhaps know what this 1,2,3 - long off/short off - 3, 2, 1 sequence means? Is that some kind of calibration? And the problem is that this "calibration" procedure is repeated every time after turning off and on the engine (only if the engine is off for short time the system doesn't run again calibration). How to "remove" this "calibration"? There are not DTCs codes visible for typical diagnostic software.
Thanks for the video. I tried this for a Continental Redi-Sensor SE10008 and deflation as well as a magnet does not wake these sensors up. I did see a SnapOn tool that had an activation capability within the tool where my Autel does not.
Suzuki sensor (continental system) don't become active in this way.
This shit didn’t work.
Nope didn't work
Ive been able to test good sensors before installing with the autel tool. Ive had 0 luck bringing new dead one back after installing airing and deflating
TPMS is the biggest governmental mess.
Tried this 3-4 times and didn’t work.
didn't work for me too. I inflated to 40psi and back to 20psi about 5 times. I did the 3 seconds deflation numerous time while scanning with ts508wf. Nothing. I replace the denso sensor. Got a new one installed. Same thing. Dormant. i really dont know what to do now. Plz help
Yeah, I am seeing 50/50 success rate.
I wonder if this has something to do with overheating.
Recently I was testing new portable air compressor for review video.
All of my sensors were fine. I fully deflated one tire, and pumped it back up. Immediately after that I got blinking TPMS warning light. The sensor is dead now and won't respond to TPMS tool.
I suspect rapid deflating/inflating back to back could have generated a lot of heat and damaged the sensor. My compressor takes 5-6 minutes per tire. Many be that's too long for sensors. Tire shops have heavy duty compressors and those probably need less than a minute per tire.
Worked for me, thank you.
Did not work
This tool doesn't recognize Continental Redi-Sensors.
I put brew new tires how come my sensor comes on ?
Please, I've installed it by still the sensor light is on
CAREUD TPMS is there to keep you safe
Hello, I am a TPMS factory in China. How can I contact you?
Nice! But the problem here is you do not know until is too late if the sensor will trigger or not! If it does not activate, you will have to disassemble the wheel again to change the valve and sensor. This is what happened to me :( The ideal is to be able to activate the new sensor before installing it. Here is the big problem with TPMS tools. They activate the generic sensors of their brands very easily, but it is much more complicated with the OEM ones
on target this exactly what i needed. taking the air out and waiting a minute and then re trigger is correct
You’re telling me all you have to do to program the sensor is to touch a scanning tool to it and that’s it after installing the sensor ??
Pretty close, try again.
Can you register a sensor that has no pressure?
Depends on the sensor brand. I was able to activate and register new sensors on my Tacoma like that, before I tool them to the shop to be mounted. Tried it on Volvo for someone - it didn’t work.
Its not a diy if you cant afford the tool.
Since when DIY stand for “free”..!?
Great Info!
what if a sensor is already programmed but you want to re-program it for a different car. How would you then go about that.
It will work. Watch my video “MaxiTPMS tool review”, I show how it’s done.
@@DIYtime thanks
I need some help on my 2017 Chevy Malibu only the front passenger tire won’t relearn with the tool is not reading it I’ve tooling out air out of it and nothing I change to a new sensor and nothing it’s the only wheel that won’t beep when I put the machine on it can some one help
So appears your original sensor is 6 y.o. and battery died, so it wont register. Did you buy new OEM or generic Autel sensor? I would check compatibility of that sensor with Autel tool.
It won’t read if you put the scanner near the rim. Put it on top where the tire is and it always works
Thanks 🤩
Hi I just purchased this and got it installed from a shop but they said they cannot program it. It says on the description that it’s pre programmed already, I turn the tpms on with my tool but still the tpms light still on in my 2015 sienna … I try to reset the light but doesn’t work, what should i do ? Does it need it to relearn. This is my first time doing this.
It cannot be pre-programmed. Each sensor has unique ID. Sensor ID’s need to be added to TPMS ECU after replacement. This vidro goes into mo details on that:

Are these marsflex sensors?
virker ikke med vores bil.
so sensors go to sleep if no pressure?
No, new sensors are asleep, to save battery.
@@DIYtime OK. Thank you Mr DIY Time. The reason I ask is cos a mate had to remove lots of tyres from steel wheels and didnt need the sensors and he gave me a bag. I was wondering if they stay good to use in my car if needed in future. Please.
Battery usually lasts for about 6 years.
@@DIYtime Fair enough. it's been about 6)))
I’m sitting here scratching my head with the same scanner and a brand new tpms sensor i’m going to try this later on
Thanks! :)
Yeah, I had the same problem very first time. Thought brand new sensor was dead, but later somebody mentioned that here on UA-cam. I tried snd it worked for me. Sometimes you may need to wait a little longer, or try a few times.
Thanks for tip!
2 quick questions:
Is it ok to activate the sensor before installation?
Will the pressure-releasing trigger a dormant sensor as well?
Thank you.
Some Brand sensors won't work at all with your programming tool, assuming you have the MaxiTPMS Programming tool. Because some brands just want to make people sell their own brand's tool, they make it so that only their programming tools are compatible with their sensors. It is perfectly fine to program sensors before installation. Actually, that is my preferred method, but some sensors just won't trigger unless put in the tire, hence the video. I don't know if the dormant sensor will trigger that way. Hope the person who made the video answers.
I tried using an Autel 501 on my 2018 ram
I put a new autel sensor in the l/f wheel.I can’t get it to trigger.I tried scanning the r/f sensor and it didn’t read either?I walked over to our Honda and the machine picked them up right away.Any ideas?
Even within Dorman brand, there are different types of sensors, some will trigger sone wont. You just have to be aware of this process and try it when necessary.
GM possibly requires their own TPMS tool.
@@DIYtime I have an older truck and want to install an aftermarket monitor. Is it possible to pair any stock sensors with aftermarket monitor, granted they both operate on the same frequency?
Hate these damn sensors
Instruction Tag on DENSO 550-0103 aka Pacific PMV-C11A reads:
REGISTRATION BY PRESSURE
During the Trigger Step release air pressure from the wheel assembly (for about three seconds), Immediately followed by tool trigger initiation. The ID data should then appear on the tool. Continue to follow the procedures the tool requires to finish sensor registration process.
that did not work.
