    Check the fuel pressure at wide open throttle through the gears, sounds like it just ran out of fuel at the top of second gear. People think they need all the trick of the week speed parts, but go look at the guys in the stock class, until your combo is optimized it’s a waste of money to buy speed parts that don’t fix any problems that don’t exist

    Something to try to help that carb, put a bigger air cleaner on it. Even if its the stock steel one with the lid flipped. That little one might be choking the carb.

    Sounds like the fuel bowl might being sucked dry? That car should have a 3/8" fuel line but for some reason they made it a 5/16" could explain why that's happening if that is what's happening?
    Maybe they did use 5/16" fuel line on it if it was a 6 cylinder car originally? My 1964 Buick Skylark that came with a sbb 300 2bbl came with a 5/16" fuel line and when I had a sbc 400 in it a friend loaned me a Q-Jet to try and it worked great until I shifted into 2nd gear where it fell on its face.😯 Hope you figure it out.😎👍

    My brother had '73 SS 350 2barrel 3 speed on the floor, that thing would 55MPH in first gear then power shift 2nd. So for a 2 barrel crab it got up and went!!! He went up against a 69 Roadrunner with a 440, my brother had him untill he had to shift to 2nd! I'd like to know what it would have done with 4 barrel crab???

      We picked this engine up only 3 miles from my house for $300 with th350 trans! The guy we got it from had just pulled it from a 72 chevelle the night before we grabbed it. Since the moment I heard this thing run I was pretty impressed and it cruises great! You can’t go wrong with a $300 small block Chevy haha. Even if it is only a little 307

      @@hatchsrecreationalengineer1997
      Just so you know, the sbc 307 has the thickest cylinders out of all the sbc engines made. A great platform for a boost build. The cylinders are so thick(how thick are they?😁) they're so thick they can be bored out to 4.00" from the 3.875" they have. That is of course, for blocks that don't have excessive core shift or doesn't have excessive coolant passage corrosion.
      And if you want to improve on the 307, there are stroker options. But before that if you can find a set of sbc 305 Vortec heads, those with a genuine imitation RPM Airgap style duel plane intake would really wake that puppy up. E Bay is selling new sbc 305 heads that have upgraded screw in studs and the seal boss machined for higher lifts. They are imports but are sanctioned by GM. Why get cast iron? Because they're cheaper than aluminum heads made for smaller bores.
      As for stroker options, to stay on a budget, if you can find a cheap or free sbc 350 crank, you can use cheap cast 4.0L Jeep pistons with 5.7" rods. Some people that build a sbc 383 might have a 350 crank they're sick of tripping over?
      Doing a dingle berry hone this would be the cheapest stroker build that anyone has ever done on yt! If you're interested, let me know I can fill you in on the details.😎👍

    Just a suggestion, probably cheapest bang for your buck. Change out the current carb to a Holley 650 double pumper carb, probably see a big difference.

    Awesome progress! 👍👍 Maybe try higher fuel pressure or a high flow needle and seat for the carb. The carb bowl may be running out of fuel, causing a lean condition. See similar issues with quadrajets on modified V8s. 😎😎😎😎

    You probably know this but a reminder if you store a vehicle for an extended time have fuel tank full and stabilized. I'm 73 years old and have stored motorhomes, motorcycles, tractors ,cars and trucks with no issues. I currently own 15 vehicles that have not been started since November and have confidence that they will. Just a few words of wisdom...

  • @itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852
    @itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852 7 місяців тому +1

    So for some reason the other comment I left here disappeared.🤷
    Anyway, what I tried to tell you about the sbc 307s is that they have the thickest cylinders out of all the sbc factory blocks ever made. They have 3.875" bores from the factory that can be bored out to 4.00". But only if there is minimal core shift and if the coolant passages are rotted out.

    • @itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852
      @itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852 7 місяців тому +1

      I also wrote how to build a budget sbc 307 stroker too using a sbc 350 crank. To keep the costs down do a dingle ball hone and use standard bore size 4.0L Jeep pistons. This would make it a 328 sbc. If you have it overbored expect around 5 more cubes per .030" of overbore.
      If you have a good crankshaft shop near by, you could have the 350 crank stroked an extra .130" to get 340 cubes out of it. You'll need thicker head gaskets and thicker intake gaskets which are readily available. Can still use the above mentioned pistons but will need to use small journal rods or get conversion bearings.(Not sure if they make the .040" under conversion bearings you would need though)

    • @itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852
      @itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852 7 місяців тому +1

      Also if you're going to keep it a 307, a set of sbc 305 Vortec heads are the ticket topped off with a genuine imitation RPM Airgap dual plane intake.
      The 58cc chambers will give you a nice compression boost and those heads flow almost as good as the sbc 350 Vortec heads with smaller valves. If you do one of the bigger strokers, the sbc 350 Vortec heads will probably be better, the 328 will like the 305 heads better.
      The Bay of e has new import sbc 305 that is sanctioned by GM. They are machined for screw in studs and the seal bosses are machined for regular seals good for higher lift cams. They're supposed to be less prone to cracking than the factory ones. They also make the Vortec 350 version the same way.

    • @itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852
      @itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852 7 місяців тому +1

      If you want to build a high HP boosted sbc, the 307 with it's thick bores is the best factory block to consider. Have 4 bolt splayed caps installed, use a halo girdle with ARP studs and that block is good for 1000 + HP.(As long as the rotating assembly is rated for that much)
      With a sbc forged 383 internal balance crank and a .060" over you can get 365 cubes. With a set of RaceTec customizable pistons will get you there because of the lack of off the shelf pistons for the 307 because not many people know about the thick cylinders.
      I have a.060" over sbc 307 in a K5 blazer that I have to block half of the radiator to get heat because of the thick cylinders. It even has a 195° F thermostat.😎👍
