About six weeks with the Sony ZV-E1. By all accounts I should love this little camera, but for some reason, no matter how hard I tried, I could not wrap my head around this.
It has got the same sensor as the famous Sony A7Siii, it is small, it is super fast, makes BEAUTIFUL videos... But. When it comes to cameras, when I know it, I know it. ZV-E1 just is not the right match for me.
Is it for you? Watch this video and find out!

This camera is perfect for me, needed something small for vlogging and travel and also something capable of professional video shooting. I barely run into issues
Good you find it suitable!
I think you have got an older/much used battery, or there are some settings in the camera that drain the battery cause it shouldn't be that bad 🤔
The battery is the one that came with the camera. But even if it was 90 minutes at 4K, it is bad compared to R7 🤔
@@Edrakaris Ofc they can be compared. A fully charged battery shouldn’t die as fast as it did with the ZV-E1. And now that I have been shooting with the A7IV and A7SIII, I have noticed that they don’t eat nearly as much power as the ZV-E1 did.
Also the battery life of EOS R6 mk II and EOS R5 is significantly better than ZV-E1. On this video I compared it to the R7, as that was what I used the most.
The quality of this vlogging is great! Sound, video and speech, love it ❤
Thanks!
Coming from blackmagic 60minutes battery is heaven
Coming from R7 and now using A7IV, the 60 minutes of battery was absolute no no 😄
Also: Hey Sony, where is my loaner A6700 to test out? Yeah, I know, it probably got lost in the christmas mail, lots of delays and stuff - but no worries, just ship it again and I’ll make some videos about it to add to the two I’ve made so far … Timo can vouch for me, it’s all good ;)
Haha 😄 hell yeah, we gotta get you one!
@@timovehkaoja That’s a proper goal for 2024: Getting a loaner camera from Sony Nordic, talk about aiming from the left field - no goals of subscribers or watch hours or monetization or anything like that, just gunning straight for the Sony Loaner, that’s how we roll :)
@@AndreSjoberg It’s all about the goals you set and the work you do to reach ’em 👍🏻
Returning mine today, it’s a cool thought- but it’s overpriced and super gimmicky. Also was overheating at about 45 minutes. Still needs a lot of work:
It would be a nice camera if it wasn’t such a toy. If it would be more sturdy, it would be sooo much better.
What about canon r8❤ ? Have you ever tried it ??
I tested it. It felt also like a toy and it didn’t feel like ”my camera”. Also, only one card slot, no IBIS..
And just as I was about to leave the studio for the evening this pops up in my feed … gotta watch though, and *then* I’m leaving, for realz, got an early morning full of packages to pack and ship, and a video to edit!!
Haha, even when I post at the most random time, youre here 😄
@@timovehkaoja Hahaha :) thing is, I use UA-cam like other people use a radio, so it’s almost always on in the background when mounting roller skates or planning stuff or building models or re-arranging the shop in general or testing lighting setups or test-filming B-Roll and all that, so when a notification dings I check who’s posted :)
Is this set up good for music videos ?
It is a fullframe camera with possibly the best sensor ever made in this price range (excluding cinema cameras such as ARRI, RED, etc), so I see no reason why it wouldn’t be. The only thing that bugs me out big time is the build quality and the lack f controls.
Appreciate your time . 🫡 respect
@@jasenalapati665 Well, what would be the point of making videos if I would not answer to the questions 👍🏻 I value the ones who take their time to watch my videos, so I am the one who should be thanking you 👍🏻
"I returned the Sony ZV-E1 because it was a loaner" @0:26 The title could have been better like Why I didn't love the ZV-E1, not that you returned it because of these issues. You had to return it regardless.
This is the fifth title of this video. 👍🏻
For me it is a perfect b-cam for my FX6 and an awesome holiday cam 😅best cinematic greetings from germany
I was terrified thad I was going to break it and then return a heap of electronic waste to Sony.. 😄
Its a video oriented camera. So you dont need 3 rings to spin, the shutter stays the same like 90% of the time. One ring for ISO, another one for IRIS, not a problem. You can turn OFF your zoom tougle, come on mate. Nobody said, that mic is the best one yet, its just better than nothing if you dont have the proper mic. Like almost every aspect you delivered is just subjective hate and your old habbits. A had a proper PrOfeSsioNal metal Sony camera with a lot of buttens and stuff, but Im okay with my ZV-E1 right now and I know limitations and cons of it. Just give the people more weighty advices, USER EXPERIENCE. Ooooh plastic body, ooooh the proper mic is better than internal, its a joke mate.
So nice for you to share all this with the rest of us 👍🏻 as I clearly stated in the beginning of this video, these are my opinions and opinions are usually based on experience.
ZV-E1 is a content creator based camera, not just for video but for photos also.
And every microphone is better than not having a mic at all, come on, ofc. This one just ain’t worth the hype it got from all the reviews.
Now, if you like it, good, it is a good camera for you. But not for me. And if you think that my opinion about it is a joke, why are you so upset about it? 🤔
@@timovehkaoja I'm upset because 100 and 1 talking heads are talking about the same things, straight to the obvious minuses of the camera. Not worth it, I can read the text about the camera faster. Not everyone have money for the damn FX3, and not everyone wants the FX30.
Its better to tell people about solutions to these minuses like cages for bodies, fans for heating etc. It will be 100 more heads that will be complain about plastic and overheating. ZV-E1 has the market place and solid, just say it, because not everyone film 30 mins straight, not everyone film 4k these days, 1080p 10bit will be film forever and dead cold. That what everyone wants to hear.
@@ЭрикСкляров-б4с Why don’t you make that video then? What is stopping you? You have a camera and you are on UA-cam.
I am telling about my experiences based on using that camera. That is also what people want to hear. It is for the ones thinking about buying it but wanting to know more than what Sony ambassadors and fanboys say about it on their videos.
If it is not a good camera in my opinion or for my use, I say it, without sugar coating it to the ones who love it. If you disagree, fine by me, but do me a solid and stop calling my opinions a joke, as I don’t call you or your opinion a joke.
@@timovehkaoja funny that you took “joke” so personal. Anyway, I stopped watching your video after “zoom tougle” point, and this problem has 30 second solution, but you fighting with it and raging on it.
I don't have time to film me talking, but that's an idea for the future.
I wrote my UX in Instagram, and I'm not Sony boy if you think.
E1 is all about compromises and you should be enough flexible to deal with this toy.
Thank you for conversation and don't take it personally, keep it up, ill subscribe.
@@ЭрикСкляров-б4с I didn’t take it personal, but to be fair, you are watching a video based on opinions, and there was a disclaimer for that early on in the video 👍🏻
If you plan to start a UA-cam channel, I highly support you and when you do, I will help out by subscribing, as the more creators we have on this platform, the better 👍🏻
And no, I don’t think you are a Sony boy, I was referring to the ones who never find any flaws from the tools they are working with, you know the type 👍🏻
Thanks for the conversation, it was a pleasure!
