I felt like this was a very healing movie for me because I was sexually abused as a child as well. I thought there were some scenes that were a little gross but definitely had some valuable lessons in it. I like how the two boys reunited and could both heal from their past trauma.
@@cinematothemax i’ve been doing this Hawaiian healing process called Ho’o Pono Pono. which helps me to forgive myself for my past trauma, as well as letting go of what my perpetrator did to me.
@@jackiemoffitt6780 it’s something really hard to let go, it’s like a hard coconut. You need to crack open to heal from it. I’ve been trying to work on myself for many years to heal from my past trauma. It definitely is a process.
This is my personal favourite movie that tackles such a topic. Some scenes are definitely disgusting and really hard to watch but the symbolism and relationships between the characters, the sound design, the surreal look the the entire movie is all just so beautiful and highlights important aspects in what it's like to experience these things, as well as how these struggles if unattended can impact the people around us
I love this film and book so so much. It’s one of my favorite pieces of media whether together or separate. this video is amazing, it’s so well made and exactly what I’ve been needing. I wanted a video discussing the adaptation and its book. This is amazing dude, thanks for making it.
i love that this movie is still getting covered now and again, its always lovely seeing new content still coming out around my favourite movie, despite it being few and far in between
I stumbled across the movie in my early teens channel-flipping late at night. I could tell it was beyond my years, and would keep flipping back to that channel, catching bits and pieces. In my early 20's I recognised a scene and got the name. Since then I've read the book twice, seen the movie four times, and listen to the OST on a monthly basis. Most of Greg's other work doesn't appeal to me as much, but I've read all of Scott's other work and his sense of "time and place" is fantastic. Really enjoyed this comparison video!
I remember watching this and other indie/cult classics on ifc in the mid 2000s and onward. I was in high school when I watched this and was just like woah, wtf did I just watch. An interesting film on how it deals with trauma. Also seeing Michelle Trachtenberg back then also surprised me.
@@cinematothemax I'm no cinemaphile, but enjoy watching a variety bc of all the different genres I watched on IFC back then. If I can make a request, why not do an analysis/review on the film Brick like you mentioned earlier in this video? It's a solid film.
Being the same age as the characters, who also recently had repressed memories come back, Brian is incredibly relatable to me. The innocent, asexuality, and desire to remember what caused me to be the way i am. Its hilarious because i first watched this movie before my memories came back, and now im watching it after with new eyes.
I’m sorry you went through that. Ive a son myself and I constantly worry about things like that. I’m fiercely protective of him. If anybody even laid a hand in my kid theyd be paralyzed from the hairline down.
This movie messed me up as a teen. Its very well made but so dark.
Couldn't agree more, thank you for watching.
Love this video.. mysterious skin is one of my favourite films of all time. So shocking yet so beautiful and raw..
Thank you so much! It's so powerful.

I'm glad you were able to connect to it, and I hope you are doing well in your journey of healing.
This is exactly how I felt! It made me feel less alone, and to me it is really a story about hope.

For sure, I plan to make some neo-noir videos in the future! I really appreciate the recommendation.
@@cinematothemax oh boy. Neo noir is one my favorites. Can't wait to see you cover fight club.

i've been looking for a video to discuss the book as well ever since i watched this movie, loved the analysis

This movie is nothing compared to my experiences as a kid from 1 to 8. It screws boys up far more deeply than from age 8.

great listen ty !
Thank you so much!
It’s one of my alltime favorite movies, even though I hate it 😄
I'm not kidding when I say I'm literally Brian
Could you do "A Home @ the End of the World"?
I'll put it on the list! Thanks for the recommendation.
I actually just saw this last night. Wowwwwwwwwww I’m actually still shocked.
Such a heartbreaking film.
Very dark movie
Sounds like a movie about abuse...no thanks. It'll piss me off
Yeah, it's very concerning
its kino but could definitely be triggering
