what is the purpose of keeping core in between? if core will be there, then where will the molten metal get poured and solidify. or i have a misconcept? plz elaborate.

Let's consider you want to pour (cast) a tube, so you need a cylinder shape cavity, in the middle you need a sand core to create the void which will be filled with the molten metal.
This is the basic concept of the cores. Here the core is more complex to match the complexity of the cavity we need to manufacture a water tap.

There is a distance about 5mm between the mold and the core, there the molten metal will flow.
