In my area at least finding a telluride at anywhere near msrp is impossible. And it's now spread to the Sorrento as I was looking for one last week. I think kia needs to reign in their dealerships on markups. At 4k over sticker these cars lose out on value which is one of their biggest draws.
What area are you in. I got ,one in Los Angeles well this is where I live and got it at msrp but then again it was about 3 months ago. And it’s the sx prestige Sorento xline. Is that the trim your talking about or is it just all trims?
Not all KIA dealers engage in "market adjustment" stickers. My dealer in the Seattle area, for example, has a policy of never charging over MSRP for any vehicle. I appreciate that policy but it does have the consequence of making the waiting list for vehicles in high demand considerably longer than it would otherwise be. You can blame the law of supply and demand for that. Some dealers, like mine, understand that building good will with their customers will pay off in the long run but that's a long range perspective that many dealers ignore. Since automakers (with the exception of Tesla in some states) are prohibited by state laws from selling their vehicles directly to consumers, their customers are the dealers, themselves. The MSRP is exactly what it says -- a SUGGESTED retail price. Once a dealer purchases a vehicle from the automaker they can charge whatever the traffic will bear. It's different in some countries outside the US (e.g. Canada as I recall) where MSRP is a ceiling price that dealers cannot violate. But here in the US the devotion to "free enterprise" restricts the power of an automaker over the actions of their franchise dealers. If that seems odd, consider an analogous situation. Suppose I sell you a house you intend to "flip." I cannot condition that sale to specify you cannot sell the house for more than, say, 10% more than you paid for it. You bought the house. You're free to sell it for whatever you can get. That's not to say that automakers cannot exert pressure on specific dealers in any way at all. They can, for example, respond to dealers that sell more cars by filling their orders more promptly. But the more popular a particular vehicle is, the less effective that pressure will be. Again, blame the law of supply and demand. Don't like it? You might want to consider that unfettered capitalism has its downsides.

Some comments about the new Sorento from an owner of a late version of the last generation. Sorry, Micah. The cargo space behind the third row isn't "seven" cubic ft. That's hardly generous compared to larger midsize three row crossovers but the Mazda CX-9, for example, offers only 14 cubic ft and the Mazda is nearly a foot (10") longer than the Sorento. A vehicle that's at least a half foot longer than the Sorento. And the total legroom in all three rows, an important measurement since the first and second rows can be adjusted to accommodate passengers, is 113" compared to the Highlander's 110". Effie says that you "have to choose between having usable cargo space or having 6 passengers" in the Sorento. Our Sorento is my wife's daily driver and our family road tripper (2 adults, a teenage daughter and a big dog) and she would say you CAN choose between cargo space and passenger accommodations. Like most Sorento owners we deploy the third row rarely. Certainly no more than 10% of the time, if that. But when we need it for local journeys for 6 or 7 passengers or chauffeuring a gaggle of teenage girls, it's a HUGE convenience compared to taking two vehicles. And when we take a family trip with the third row stowed the Sorento gobbles up all our stuff easily. All in all, the Sorento is a Goldilocks vehicle for us. The Telluride is unnecessarily large. Most compact SUVs are less versatile and the Sorento is just right. It's not all rainbows and unicorns in the new generation, however. Much improved styling and the new 2.5L turbo 4 that's now found in at least 8 KIA, Hyundai, and Genesis vehicles is a win/win compared to the NA V6 in our Sorento. Better fuel economy and performance. As the owner of a DSG equipped GTI I'm very fond of dual clutch transmissions but as often is the case a new engine/transmission combo may need some tweaking after the first year of availability. The 50/50 user controlled torque split between front and rear wheels may not turn the Sorento into a rock crawler but it makes a huge difference in trudging up our extremely long driveway when it's covered in deep snow. I've only test driven the new model and it seemed fine to me but time will tell. And I won't be tackling Moab with either my or the new Sorento. For its mission of tackling the jungle of urban and suburban traffic along with gravel roads and the occasional trip to (but not on) mountain trails, the Sorento is great. A couple of more serious design decisions compared to the previous generation do strike me. I understand the trend toward putting only captain chairs in the second row of upper trim mainstream SUVs but I think KIA has carried it too far in the new Sorento. Not because our family needs space for more kids (Thank God) but the family dog's second home is the bench back seat of our top trim SX-Prestige Sorento. Limiting bench seating to the very lowest trim levels (not even including it as an option in the mid-trim EX version) is a deal breaker as far as the canine member of the family. Finally, for some unfathomable reason KIA has deleted driver seat memory, 4 way lumbar support, and an extending thigh cushion from all trim levels. So in addition to the dog's objections my wife says she won't consider trading our 2018 model for the new generation. Sadly, that leaves us with the choice of a relatively huge Telluride that when fitted with a hitch mounted bike rack won't fit in our garage or the Sorento's sibling, the Hyundai Santa Fe, that retains most of the features of our current Sorento but loses the relatively seldom used but very convenient third row of seats.
Good review. Just bought the X-Line a couple months back. The only gripes I have are #1 Brakes are too touchy. #2 No memory seats #3 No interior mood lighting #4 No wireless Android Auto. Other than that, I'm happy with it!
It's the same size almost exactly as the Volvo XC90. I know because I have both. In Europe we have the Diesel engine which is great combined with the Wet8 DCT transmission. This is what I have and it returns an easy 34mpg US, 40mpg Imperial. In the UK it is only available in the mid trim level for some reason, which does without the pano roof, surround cameras and memory for the seats. In gas/petrol, we only get the 1.6 turbo mild-hybrid with, I believe, the plug-in hybrid coming soon.
I gotta say a turbo and a DCT would make me nervous from any manufacturer in the first model year of a generation, really looking forward to EVs and their infrastructure catching on for these more affordable “normal” family vehicles from an environmental and performance stand point.
Issue with rear hatch is that it won't automatically open unless the doors are locked. Often someone is still sitting in the car with doors unlocked as you bring the shopping back and in this scenario you have to find the button on the door or key fob.
I've gotta say that I go against Micah on the Sorento . . . I love the size/not too big, I love the looks, I love the interior. Over-analyzing the category as I have done, it's my favorite in the medium(ish)-sized CUVs.
TRON legacy was so cool, and I think a tad underrated, but also this is coming from someone who's a huge fan of Olivia Wilde and The Dude... so I'm terribly biased, and the soundtrack made by Daft Punk is something I still enjoy to this day, and the featured song Derrezzed still gets me going. Oh yes Sorento. A few years ago we crossed shopped the (now previous gen one) vs an Outback, and the outback won for us, but it's still a pretty good family car with lots of bang for the buck. I'm still not fully sold on that kind of 3rd row seats tbh. Yes kiddos like Micah's (and mine that are of a similar age bracket) will fit in there and it might work if you're carpooling (whenever that's a thing post covid) kids from school, but for any more serious work, you're gonna want bigger seats, like in a minivan, so why not just buy it in the first place? We chose the outback partly because it was a sweeter deal, it felt carlike (duh) and it was slightly smaller, so a better fit for our tight parking arrangement, so this vs a telluride would also swing in a similar direction.
Very funny that you described it as an almost compact SUV, "too small to be midsize". Here in Italy (and in Europe in general) it's seen as a mastodontic car!
Prestige or not, even the most highest trim won't get you memory seats. What an oversight. The older Sorrentos had them. How could you not include them for a "family" vehicle for over 45k?
Hey this is the review I asked about a few weeks ago! Awesome! Thanks for reviewing this! My favorite features are the surround and sideview cameras. Wish more cars had them or kept them (like my 2015 CRV). The dealbreaker for my wife might be the high beltline since we’re so used to the great visibility in our CRVs, she’ll probably say it’s claustrophobic. Waiting for the 2022 PHEV Sorento or a redesigned CRV (our 4th!) with hopefully an updated infotainment system.
Apart from Sorento and XC90, we also have a Honda CR-V twin-turbo-diesel with the ZF 9 speed auto, which was available in the UK until about three years ago when the UK factory stopped making CR-V's. If you are happy with the visibility of the Honda you should be equally happy with Sorento. None my family have commented or apparently noticed any particular difference. My Volvo has surround cameras but none of the others, as my Honda is a 2015 model, top of the range, and my Sorento is mid range which doesn't get this feature or head-up display in the UK. Top of the range gas ones do.
I. Bought the CX 9 over the Sorento. It is a joy to drive with great feel and plenty of power. The interior is very upscale. Interior is a bit bigger behind the third row. Nice 12 speaker Bose sound system. Leather and a power hatch. A joy to drive and quite a looker in snowflake white metallic pearl.
SUV pricing in general has become far too convoluted. It used to be that the top-of-the-line smaller vehicle usually maxed out, price wise, about $1k less than the base next larger model; but if you look at Kia's lineup, they have 7 vehicles they consider an SUV (that includes the Soul and the Carnival, aka the mini-van). 5 of the 7 have common models in available for about $32k. There comes a point where you can only slice a pie so thin, and I think the manufacturers are well past that.
The 10yr warranty is a sales pitch and a gimmick. Had problems with them 2 times 2 different Kia Sorento. They do not honor it unless you complain so much and get lawyers involved. I know people will argue that kia is the best but from my past experiences I will pay a little extra for something more reliable. Kia and Hyundai Cars are beautiful and very tempting to buy but I have learned to stay away at any cost. I also have family members that swear that Kia and Hyundai are amazing yet their Cars and have had engine/powertrain problems within 100k miles. Just my honest opinion.
So I went with the 2021 Kia Sorento EX X-Line (yeah, a mid year addition to the lineup) instead of a 2022 Telluride S. Reasons: more features for $$, right size for our 4 person family, and though I did love the smoothness of the V6 in the Telly, I REALLY enjoy the turbo 2.5. Very fun to drive. Love your videos!! How’s Evie liking the Bronco Sport by the way? Wife is looking at them now
Hi! Thank you for this review. I have a question but heads up, I'm not uber familiar with car specs or what they are capable of. I am wondering if the back seat gets well ventilated with the rear vents. We live in Phx metro and it gets hot. It would be nice to have some power from the blowers. Thank you!
Should have tried the hybrid EX build. It’s impressive. Linear power unlike turbo. I wanted telluride but this was for the wife and she wanted something smaller, and the hybrid. After driving it I was impressed. Surprised you didn’t cover the automatic driving features if that model has it... saw the button on the steering wheel. We didn’t know it had it when we bought but it kind of rings of Tesla self driving without the full self driving package.
The interior is impressive. But, when it showed that speedometer it showed the gas mileage and it looked really bad every time it showed it. I think a V-6 would get about the sake of maybe better.
You might think it's weird buy wait until winter, the lower vents help heat up the lower half of your body, which in a classic vents layout, it blows hot air at your face while your torso and upper legs are cold. I wish more brands would take this approach vs just hot air for your face.
Yes, even the Telluride SX nightfall edition has Analog Tach and Speedo. If you want full digital, the Hyundai Palisade would be the way to go but the design of the Palisade is not my favorite.
Got the EX+ 2021 Sorento ( Canada ) Love the Car ! , Dislikes here is : Hate the Auto Engine OFF Feature/ Always need to press the A off button before leaving, Only one Android Auto/CarPlay Plug , can't use a USB Hub to Multiple use of the USB PORT, Navigation Map is OK /NOT Great and wish there is an update firmware for Wireless Android Auto /Carplay and the update to enable the USB Port to support an HUB , then Cornering compare to my previous CX5 - CX5 2017 handles a bit more better, also wish an update to enable a Full wide screen of Android Auto then a Split screen of the Google Map and the Car ( time, radio , things ) on the right
Does it have a 2 row option? I think it would be best as 2 row with usable room for seating and trunk. Also, I’d like to see a review for the hybrid version!
I drove the hybrid at the dealership. It had surprising power. If it had all the luxuries I would have bought the hybrid. If you can find one that's loaded if that's what your looking for you can't go wrong.
ugh this is the one I want and its no where have to build one to get it. They say takes between two or three months. But I like the 2022 one now with the new logo :D
One of the YT reviewers (Driving TV?) tried a Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy in a offroad test and the transmission didn't overheat. The same can't be said the M-B GLB.
Huge missed opportunity to demonstrate the backseat passenger reminder alert, considering you actually had a child to test. Would've liked to see that as I never have seen it in action.
Think you need a UVO subscription for it to work..not sure reviewers get that to trial. We just bought a 2021 Sorento..but haven’t tried it out just yet
Does it have the typical feel of a typical DCT? That's been my biggest concern about the latest Sorento and Santa Fe. DCT's just don't seem to fit the "feel" of a midsize SUV. I feel like the roughness around town would get old.
The changes are absolutely smooth and very quick. The main difference between this [mine is a diesel] and the Volvo XC90 is that the Sorento down changes for engine braking down hill more readily. Otherwise you just can't tell that it's a DCT when driving. It does slip nicely when starting off to hide the fact that it lacks a torque converter. It is, when said and done, a robotised automatic synchromesh transmission that actually changed ratios internally very like a manual/stick shift
“For a KIA”…Guessing you all haven’t test driven the Telluride, Stinger, K5 or the K900. Don’t generally see people driving six people on a Costco run. We pop up the third row when we have some of my daughters friends in the Sorento. Otherwise, it’s fine. Never watched such a negative review of the Sorento.
I'm looking at the Sorento, Telluride Nightfall edition, Stinger GT2 AWD and 2019/20 K900. I'm really torn between Sorento and Stinger. They want that dealer markup for the Telluride.
The thing I hate most about current Kia/Hyundai offerings is the infotainment, reminds me of poor android skins where there's super inconsistent UI throughout different menus and pages, 20 ways to do the same thing, and a bunch of gimmicks that clutter the screen and prevent you from doing the basics. And they'll likely never received any updates to fix that and you're stuck with it.
I really like watching these vehicle reviews with Evie & Micah, HOWEVER... When Micah gets on one of his rants about something he doesn't like, does like, or gets excited about something and sporadically interrupts Evie while she's talking, it brings out some anxiousness within myself that I never knew I had. It's like he gets uncontrollably frenetic and gabs too quickly and almost behaves like he has ADHD or something. #energylevelswaytoohigh Lol
Unfortunately the mere fact that there needs to be a warning built in to the vehicle to alert that you somehow forgot your child is not only disgusting but proves the total depravity in our society. In MY day we had this thing called COMMON SENSE and this other thing called CARING FOR YOUR CHILDREN PROPERLY!!!! That said, back when I was growing up and at a certain age, hanging out in the car while mom and dad shopped was great. I was however old enough to handle it responsibly and my parents kept on an eye on me. Back then this was not uncommon. AND this was in L.A. in the 60s and 70s. By the time I was a teen, I didnt dare go near a car with parents in it, mine or otherwise... :) As Confucius said, when the family fails, the whole empire is ready to collapse.
One of the reasons we have back up cameras is because people have backed up over their toddlers. What the hell were toddlers doing playing in the driveway!?
The in between size is what makes the Sorento a perfect fit for me. Just right sized.

Was scrolling on YT and seen your face didn't know your name but watched old reviews of your so an instant recognized reviewer, I subscribed!!!
Love me some Star Trek references. 🤙
Seen one at a red light recently, the rear resembles a Mustang Mach-e, kinda.
Saw*
The upcoming PHEV Sorento could be a good option if it's priced right and has 7 seats.
I've gotta say that I go against Micah on the Sorento . . . I love the size/not too big, I love the looks, I love the interior. Over-analyzing the category as I have done, it's my favorite in the medium(ish)-sized CUVs.
Great job on this! Very impressed by the Sorento. Would skip the X Line trim but otherwise its beautiful inside and out. Like the peppy engine as well
Love the family reviews
How does it compare to the acura mdx in terms of size?
4:32 always love your video. it may sound silly but, my favorite part is rear window test. 🤗
Such a beautiful car and a great size!
Very funny that you described it as an almost compact SUV, "too small to be midsize". Here in Italy (and in Europe in general) it's seen as a mastodontic car!
It IS funny to scroll between North American and European reviews, for this exact reason.
Prestige or not, even the most highest trim won't get you memory seats. What an oversight. The older Sorrentos had them. How could you not include them for a "family" vehicle for over 45k?
i believe it's supposed to be on the plugin AWD hybrid out this summer
To add further fuel to your ire fire, I believe the Sorento comes with memory seats in the Canadian market!
@@bintom2906 lol....fuel indeed. Makes even worse sense then.....lol....🤯🤯🤪🤪
Can you do a CX-9?? I been going back and forth between a Sorento and a CX-9
You can’t go wrong with the Sorento man it’s great.
Thank you!
Honda passport toyota venza and ford edge chevrolet blazer rivals ?
yeah but none of those have a 3rd row.
Great review!!! Really helped :)
Awesome video y’all!😸😸
I hope you guys do the Santa Fe! I want to see the differences
Edit: who doesn't fantasize about riding a Lightcycle!
Which trail was that?
I have no individual thoughts, but thanks for asking...!
If you have trouble starting it, will giving the dashboard surround some oo-mox help?
The interior is impressive. But, when it showed that speedometer it showed the gas mileage and it looked really bad every time it showed it. I think a V-6 would get about the sake of maybe better.
I'd have to agree, way too much glossy plastic. Those air vents are kinda weird looking too. Do we really need 8 air vents just on the upper dash??
You might think it's weird buy wait until winter, the lower vents help heat up the lower half of your body, which in a classic vents layout, it blows hot air at your face while your torso and upper legs are cold. I wish more brands would take this approach vs just hot air for your face.
Interesting, it has a full digital driver’s display. Isn’t the Telluride semi-analog?
Yes, even the Telluride SX nightfall edition has Analog Tach and Speedo. If you want full digital, the Hyundai Palisade would be the way to go but the design of the Palisade is not my favorite.
Add a 2-row to the lineup, Kia (which may kick it out of the "truck" CAFE standards, but oh well).
*No squirrels were injured in the making of this video*
I test drove both the Telluride and Sorento the Sorento was a much better drive make sure it’s the turbo AWD version though.
Am I the only one that noticed the car seat has been moving around? Probably need to secure it better.
You really had to call out the Corvette driver😂
Hey Micah, just wondering, did you experience any overheating with that DCT when you took it off road? Thanks, and love your videos man.
One of the YT reviewers (Driving TV?) tried a Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy in a offroad test and the transmission didn't overheat. The same can't be said the M-B GLB.
@@JT-fq2bl I saw that video too, (Driving Sports TV). The newer Sante Fe's have a wet DCT which is less prone to overheat I think.
Huge missed opportunity to demonstrate the backseat passenger reminder alert, considering you actually had a child to test. Would've liked to see that as I never have seen it in action.
Think you need a UVO subscription for it to work..not sure reviewers get that to trial. We just bought a 2021 Sorento..but haven’t tried it out just yet
please do a family review of the 2021 subaru ascent
And it's wet to keep from overheating!
I don’t think we watched the same review because it didn’t feel overly negative at all
At the end Micah even praises the Telluride
@@itslucien Yes, though this was a Sorento review and not Telluride. Did you think you were watching a Telluride review?
I'm looking at the Sorento, Telluride Nightfall edition, Stinger GT2 AWD and 2019/20 K900. I'm really torn between Sorento and Stinger. They want that dealer markup for the Telluride.
Can you review the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander??
Most uncomfortable seats I been in on long trips.
PHEV IS NEEDED ASAP!
Review the 2022 Tucson Hybrid please!
Has anyone with a vehicle with a digital speedometer had it go out or go blank?
Map and nav might be built in nav and apple/Google maps.
Should compare against Honda Passport for 5 passenger instead
Hybrid or PHEV.. in couple years..maybe.. Like the updates much more than previous years.
Normal Toyota buyer w great resale vehicles.
Fantastic Vehicle
No mention of lack of memory seats on a 45k vehicle? For shame.
I see you achieved a whopping 12.7 MPG 🤔
compete with Toyota Highlander & Venza Chevrolet Blazer Ford Edge Hyundai Santa Fe
Do outlander 2022
Isn't this a DCT transmission not an "automatic" !?!?!
#energylevelswaytoohigh
Lol
Wow she’s a tough judge… she said it looks “fine…” this thing is beautiful!! Smh lol

“Family review”
Has one kid in a 7 seater 😂😂😂
As Confucius said, when the family fails, the whole empire is ready to collapse.
One of the reasons we have back up cameras is because people have backed up over their toddlers.
What the hell were toddlers doing playing in the driveway!?
