I started using Circle hooks this season after losing quite a few on trebles. So far I’ve not lost a fish and they have all been hooked in the scissor of the mouth. I hook the bait about an inch and a half further down the tail, just through the flesh and not all the way through like you. I snip the tail fins then use bait elastic to keep the hook well presented. Not missed one yet. I’ve cursed myself now 🤦🏻♂️
I did not give it long enough, will have to give a a go again!! My mate geoff has used them with success as seen on another one of my videos.....thanks for watching
I catch lots of pike on 3 - 4 inch Roach deadbaits, using size 1/0 and size 2/0 Mustad 39951 Demon circle hooks. Generally I hook the bait through the wrist of the tail with this bait/hook size combination. In addition to pike this set-up catches a lot of zander on waters that have zander/pike populations. I tend to float-leger most of the time, generally with a really sensitive float that only needs a couple of grams to balance it.
Circle hooks are the way to go, 2 trips this year, only short sessions after work, 3 fish 18, 211/2 and 24, all hooked in the scissors, and the hook pops out like a barbless hook using fingers.
They do take a bit of getting used to, but they are way better for the fish, almost exclusively get corner or lip hooks. Deffo one for smaller baits though.
I use circle hooks and I leave them between 20 - 30 seconds but I lip hook my baits,so would leave it longer for tail hooked fish, just have to make sure that hook is in the pikes mouth,a deep hooked fish with circle hooks is very rare, but if it happens they are so easy to get out unlike trebles
This is exactly how I use my Circle hook rigs, snip the tail off hook straight through the hard part of the tail never fails, no deep hooked fish perfect
Hard luck ,I find putting the circle hook through the back or middle gets me better results, but ya have to be extra careful casting as the tend to fly!
.y friend has done ok on them,he also has put the hook through the middle with more luck,i suppose when you think about it it makes more sense...thanks for watching
Like others have said, maybe small roach deadbait. I like the idea of using circle hooks but as my time is limited, i stick to traditional snap tackle so i am more positive of hooking up. Be interesting to see how you get on in the future. Tight lines.
I am going to try a smaller bait, but like you i want to catch fish!! If i keep loosing fish i will sack it off and go back to trebles.. Thanks for comment n sub..
I had some success with circle hooks some years back when used with sprats, once the baits got much bigger than that the hook up rate really dropped off.

Very funny Ian, I love your northern quips. They made a dopey southerner laugh….
I do try to keep it humorous, yet as informative as i can, thanks for watching

I will give them a good go but not every session lol thanks for the comment
I exclusively use Circle hooks even for big baits, sardine herring mackerel, all withe same results.

Cheers,my mate fished circle hooks in the last video i did,and he cought 3 so deffo work,he hooked them in the back (dorsal)
I do the same, but tail hook my baits, if you dont hook up, the fish usually comeback because they didn't feel the hook, they are the way to go.

It’s best to hair rig with single circle hooks
I tend to hair rig circles when I'm using larger (6 - 8 inch ) baits
Unlucky mate think if i wer using circle hooks id use a smaller bait or maybe cut that bait in half 🤔👍
Merrr i thought that.....ye i suppose it makes sense as its to get it well in its mouth ....

Small baits it is then ...
@@parklandpiker Good luck
I use an elastic band with a circle hook
Never strike just wind into the fish when using circle hooks
I will keep trying
Machete required Ian. Or one of your old knives that's seen better days ?.
