In this video tutorial, Joshua Casper shows you how to use InstaChord 2 by W.A. Production to start a song. Along the way you will get a good understanding of how to get started with this AI assisted MIDI generator and a review of its key features.
This video is perfect for those who are looking to get started with the InstaChord 2 VST Plugin or for those looking to get more from this incredibly powerful music theory tool!
    Humanised Chords
W.A Production believes that creative expression should be simple, intuitive, and inspiring. When you're making music, you need the right chords to set the tone, and Instachord 2 delivers exactly what you called for... and fast!
The team at W.A Production were so blown away with the reception to the original Instachord that they couldn’t resist developing that concept into a fully-fledged chord creator and mini-sequencer. Simple enough to be used by anyone, but with the power to make professional music, this dynamic MIDI processing plugin is the chord creation and sequencer tool that will take your music to the next level.
Whether you're a songwriter or producer, this ideas engine will help you speed up your workflow and creation process. Find the best progression and apply a single pattern to play all of them. Easily master some of the hardest chords, in any musical key and combination of notes and different voicings. Use this plugin to generate chord shapes, learn tricky harmonics and share your creations.
    Pattern Editor
After releasing Instachord, an oft-requested update was to gain more control over strums and chord playback. W.A Production took that note and ran with it, creating a brand new interface window, the Pattern Editor. Here you’ll create your own patterns and sequences, dragging notes around in the same way as your DAW. Produce soaring synth arpeggios, pounding piano chords, or delicate guitar riffs. You get full management over time signature, play mode, and velocity with creative editing controls for strum programming.
    AI Generation
Adapted from the popular InstaComposer plugin, this generative button will take the existing scale and spawn brand-new riffs based on complex algorithms and a touch of randomisation. Always musical and inspirational, these new ideas can be tweaked in the same way as your own patterns so that they fit perfectly into your song.
    Hold Modes
Compared to the original Instachord, this new version has many more playback options for fretting and picking notes. 5 in total, covering different behaviour for holding notes and toggling chords. Whatever the instrument you’re playing, there will be an authentic playback mode to suit.
    Custom Chords
Edit existing chords or create your own by selecting intervals between notes to make custom chords. Alternatively, play in notes with your MIDI keyboard to help Instachord 2 learn your favourite chord shapes.
    MIDI Drag & Drop
Thanks to the latest update, you can now also Drag and Drop MIDI from the pattern editor right to your DAW.
    So Many Chords
With over 60 chord shapes to choose from, you can explore inversions, voicings, augmentations, and extensions like never before, making your music sound more interesting and compelling. Choose your own chords from the extensive selection, or hit the Generator button to ask Instachord 2 for inspiration. Set up to 24 different chords and switch between them using the chord keys. Transpose the current chords to any other key you desire with a couple of clicks.
    Playing Chords & Picks
There are more ways to play chords and picks than ever before, now all fully customizable in the Pattern Editor. For example, a key can be assigned to strum the top 3 notes of the chord and another to play a riff on the other 3 notes. You can also play individual notes of the chord separately. So it's possible to manually arpeggiate or strum chords.
    Action Stations
Newly integrated into the main playback keys, action keys can be set to transpose by octave or semitone, providing an easy way to move chords away whilst playing live.

The layout is poky even scaled up. Take a tip from Cherry Audio and have a 'focus' button which does close ups on main segments with scrolling, it's brilliant. Essential fields (ie that make patterns play - perhaps the main thing a user needs to know right from the start) don't have tooltip/popup on hover to make the learning curve less difficult. The whole thing is very user unfriendly, if not hostile to intuitive interaction. In this era of smart and stylish plugins it's clearly sub standard. Thanks for the video.

Three days later: I picked it up again, gave it a second chance and ... drumroll ... I love it.
I now really got the hang of it, thanks to this video and I just can't get enough of playing around with Instachord 2. Trying all the factory patterns in combination with different chord progressions, different Synthesizers and presets and even creating my own patterns with the pattern editor.
And after having spent some time with it I now also realize how even the single stroke option can help you create great melodies. I used to think "Why would I need a plugin that makes me press two notes just to get one note out of it?". But keeping your notes within the chord notes while also switching chords inbetween, it's like, you can just play random notes and it will still sound good.
I have to thank you for making this video demonstration. 👍

I just realized that the two new Preset packs that have been made specifically for Instachord 2, including 40 Patterns each (actually 200 because each pattern has 5 variations), has automatically been added to the preset bundle that I bought a while back 😃
    Thank you, WA Production 😊😘

To be honest for all the hoops you have to jump through to get this to do anything, the results don't justify the effort. I gave up on the old version and this just seems to be more of the same only with more hoops.

True. I bought Instachord 2 and the preset bundle, so I've got a ton of nice chord progressions, but they were all made for Instachord 1, so they don't make use of the pattern editor and all they offer is regular chords, single notes or strums. Would be nice to see pattern presets made specifically for Instachord 2.

Just bought this plugin off you today & I can honestly say, I've never been so frustrated in my life. I use studio one 5, which is a junk DAW. I know. I regret buying the pro version but that's another story. So my issue is this. After trying every possible routing method. I can't get this plugin working as you show here. I have managed to get sound out of it but only by playing keys. If I choose a chord sequence, nothing comes out. I click the button on screen, see the pretty midi files scroll but hear nothing. I bought this, expecting to be able to generate chord sequences I liked, tweak them a bit & lay down tracks with a little more ease. As it is, I've wasted a day of my life I'll never get back & wasted money on an unusable app

Hi Rainbow Chaser I have Studio One 5. It worked. Here is how to do it. Make one track instachord 2 and make the other track a vst of your choice. On the instrument track you will see all inputs. Change that to insta chord 2. Now make sure that the blue sound button is active on both you will hear the results from the instachord track. Hope this helps you.

@@doriginal69 Cheers for the tip. I'd tried that on a couple of Arturia synth vst's but had no sound. I tried again last night with komplete kontrol, loading a synth through that & it worked right away.
I'm not sure this is the plugin for me though. I wanted something that would give me chord sequence options quickly, to play around with. Having a little M32, I don't have enough keys to do the two key press this plugin seems to need for it to work.

Scaler 2, however, a cut above, has its own onboard sounds - don't care if it's not the preferred voicing, it's a much better option than a 'dumb' plugin.
