I don't think this channel is given enough credit as sports journalism. This feels like a late night slot on ESPN and I mean that as a compliment. the stats, replays, and charts give a professional aesthetic and the writing and delivery of the script round out something that makes smash feel even more legitimate as a competitive sport as I already feel likke it is. Thank you all for the work you do
Thank you for saying this perfectly cuz I didn't feel like typing it out!

Agreed! Amazing content!
We all know it would be a different story if Leo went Joker...
and if Quandaledinglelingleton was there
Since that one Umebura where he was out at 33rd from TKM and Umeki
@@typhlosion7872 Over 3 years ago!!😳
@@typhlosion7872 Notably the tournament he picked up Joker
@@michaelkarim57 it's crazy isn't it? Leo i believe immediately after got 4th (GOML 2019), then went on his legendary top 2 streak with Joker. Meanwhile he's been inconsistent from recent months with Aegis. Just odd with how technical and difficult Joker is whereas Aegis is seen as easy.
@@mrjollyguy25 Goes to show picking the "easy" characters doesn't mean you'll get better results thanyou would picking a "hard" character.
It's crazy how one of Acola's worst placements ever is 4th at a S.U.S
It was what I expected I mean he’s still incredible and it’s an amazing placement nonetheless
I'm pretty sure that's his worst placement offline period.
It's crazy ... But that final F smash against Tweek was such BS. I hate Steve lol. Tweek works so hard with Diddy to keep it even. And a Steve F smash can steal the game.
One of? You mean THE worst result

This tournament was the embodiment of "Our battle will be LEGENDARY!"
Nobody has talked about how insane lights 4th game vs acola was. Down 2-1 and down a stock against a steve who just got diamond, instead of rushing in like usual, light just takes a deep breath and lets steve mine for a second while he composes himself, afterwards he proceeds to tear into Acola's Steve at peak form, and comeback to win the set. Dude played like a MONSTER while in losers.
Like the commentator said
“ I don’t care if you have diamond or not “
I'm not the first one to say this, but Light went ultra instinct in game 4 vs Acola. That indomitable power would last until Light reset the bracket in Grand Finals by taking a set from Protobanham.
Take a shot everytime Steve uses mincart
@@danieldancer4065 spacie nair goes brrrrrr
No one wants to talk about Proto not getting a crowd after he won? Pretty sure thats the first time in Summit history (Melee & Ultimate) that has happened. Smh @NA no matter who you wanted to see win every Summit champion deserves a crowd.
Pretty sure it’s happened for at least a Melee Summit that Hungrybox has won, but that certainly doesn’t condone it
@@joefleming8955 that happened at summit 7 during the hbox hate.
it is because the titans of MKleo and Sparg0 had the better sets
Why didnt you guys go into any detail about what proto accomplished here?! The winner was the biggest afterthought on this vid -___-
yeah his achievement felt quite undersold compared to the rest of the storytelling
Kola had that indomitable human spirit the whole tourney

wow, you watched the video too?
PGstats, bravo. Bra-fucking-vo. What you do for the Smash community with these videos is shockingly valuable. You tie together the narrative threads being woven throughout the world, in tournaments that many don’t even know exist, from games that many will have not seen. You are central to hype building this game, you are central to the experience of being an avid smash bros fan. Thanks.
Technically only 15 players flew in. Dom just took a short drive to the venue. 😂
Giga chad moment
😂
This was easily my favorite Ultimate tournament. I was on the edge of my seat the whole weekend and even though my favorites didn’t win, it was still incredible
This Summit can summarized as Summit game 5. Proto is a demon in this game. Japan is turning up to become the final bosses of ultimate.
Amazing recap video! The writing, the stats, the humor kept me watching all the way through even through i already knew the outcome! Amazing work
I loved that this was the anti-DLC event, with Proto, Kola, and Light all making original characters look fucking broken. (I know Proto has his Min Min, but his lucina was the highlight of this tourney)
Tbf Lucina is overall better than Min Min
@@Rarest26 when you say better
Do you mean as a character or as entertainment
@@jjbathemeextensions8866 As a character, but I can see why you'd think it could be either.
Nice vid. Only issue with it comes naturally with the format of covering every player, starting from the lowest placements, and that's the fact that it felt like Proto was barely talked about. The perspective was given to the players in an ascending order, and it feels wrong to hear so little about the actual winner of the tournament since he's obviously at the top.
From the comments, seems like only you and I were bothered by that…
proto didnt need to be talked about that much because he rolled everyone so there isnt much to say while showing results he was just on another level
He definitely deserves a spotlight, this is the second time he's come to NA and just rolled everyone (first double down) and not mich to show other than a pat on the back. it's not weakness to say someone's good at the game
@@zacharyalford8185 The problem is that character awareness does play a role and massive cheese does ruin a ton of the hype.
This tournament made it clear that Smash Ultimate is nowhere near solved, and probably never will be. I honestly have no idea who's #1-5 anymore because everyone who's won a supermajor, everyone who's beaten Leo, everyone who's taken down the best of the best, has also been taken down themselves. It feels like everyone in the top 20 can beat everyone else!
That's just cuz this game is shit. You'll never see a period of an uncontested God like other games.
Ult feels more mu based than tier based imo and even then, bad matchups seem to matter less and less as time goes on.
Mhm! Plus the show that a lot of these top players even with all this DLC is still hella entertaining. This game is far from dead, and while it won’t go on forever, it still has plenty of life left in it.
@@aqualili I don't know how this is a bad thing at all. Isn't more exciting for so many players to be competing at the same level like this?
@@aqualili Mkleo has more years rank 1 than Armada

Riddles played so well at Ultimate Summit 5. Unfortunate he had to run into two of his worst character match ups. Congrats to Protobanham! He should have gotten more fanfare after he won.
His final placement seems so unfair compared to Kola when you think about who they beat and lost to...
I guess it's the problem of this weird pool to gauntlet format
@@fourniervictor9354 stacked to all hell XD
Not sure if it was just the insane quality of tournament, or if you guys are getting that much better with every video, but something about this one made it really stand out to me. Great job guys.
As soon as I saw some mad stuff at summit I thought I cannot wait for PG stats video on this. Quality content !
Definitely some of the absolute best content for smash - love this channel
I don't understand how this channel can deliver videos of such quality in such a short amount of time, but anyway, keep up the great work!
MkLeo's 9th placement does not indicate a poor performance, it is an indication of how stacked this tournament is
Also, the Light-Acola storyline was so fitting. Light lost to Acola in the Gimvitational, developed Post Traumatic Steve Disorder (PTSD), had a talk with God, learned the matchup, and finally defeated the demons that haunted him
coulda just said ptsd lol
Light da GOAT
@@breadtube_king5744 Post-Traumatic Steve Disorder is a bit different from standard ptsd
Yeah it’s not like he got upset by bad players. Riddles and Tweek are amazing, both around that top 5-10 mark
It’s a poor performance because his aegis has gotten him the worst results
This was amazing, please keep them coming.
This is the best smash channel, great videos. I also enjoyed watched the summit live.
Honestly I vote for more of these long-form recaps. Now that so many storylines are playing out there’s gonna be so much to talk about after every major
Amazing coverage, the length was perfect for the amount of stuff that went down
What a sick recap! Ty!
i wish you guys had covered proto’s run a bit more because his run was absolutely incredible, dope video though
I like these highlight video stories. They are nice to consume instead of scouring through the tourney from scratch, cause i still want to stay up to date
I was WAITING for this video!!!!
Thanks for making this! Great story telling
This channel has my absolute favorite style of game commentary.
love your work, keep it up
Dang, only thing I wish was mentioned more in depth was Jahzzo’s squad strike run. Wins on Light, Tweek, MkLeo, AND Acola?!? WTF?!? Man‘s got a BRIGHT future 🙏
I think they didn't mention much of that cause both Leo and Tweek were sandbagging.
It is wild how well these videos are made and how quick yall did it too. Smash Ultimate Summit 5 was the best summit ever and this video perfectly encapsulates it. Thank you.
Not just a crazy Summit statistically but an amazing one to watch as well. From the delightful "new" kids (Jahzzo, Dom, Ouch) to the familiar legends (Light, Leo, Glutonny), and everything in between (Kola, Riddles, Proto), this was an incredible journey to spectate, groan, and cheer for all the way.
The amount of game 5’s alone is all the statistics I needed in order for this tournament to be bare minimum insane 🤤
Tweek should be there with familiar legends
And Acola is absolutely THE new kid we were watching
Japan is actually insane.
We need Hero and yoshidora in the states.
Yoshidora the Yoshi ?
@@user-lq4ct6dr5m yes.
I know yoshidora has work and a family but we need him in the states.
@@ballertheking1038 And if we can’t have Yoshidora (which would be fair enough), I’d be down with at least Repo coming to a major someday.

I appreciate you in return PGstats bros
Fantastic review!
Commenting for visibility. Keep up the great content!
Tweek making a comeback is awesome can’t wait to see more of him in the future
So many game 5 in this tournament. It was a wild ride. Back and forth. Reverse 3-0 too. Just insane.
This was a super good video! I missed this tourney between working my job and playing the new release of Xenoblade 3
I love jahzzo’s ken and him getting better at this tourney makes me excited for what is to come.
this is such a good video. tells a great story to Summit 5, the best Summit like ever!
Proto didn't even get a spotlight this video....
Just like nobody celebrated his win at Summit which normally always happens when an American wins Summit.
@PGstats this video is so swell it could have spin-offs!
The contextual storylines are set-up so intricately, it literally provides enough content for forklore on alternate endings - What could've been...
i.e. MKleos failed plot armor against Tweek in another reverse 3 - 0 spectacle...
The transferred (now cracked) plot armor for Tweek in Game5 Tweek vs Acola 😓 [sadge]
I definitely do not speak for everybody watching these videos, but personally, I wouldn't mind a longer form video every so often.
It makes sense that in a time where there's a major every week nothing can be longer than 10 minutes, but I appreciate the longer form content whenever it drops :)
Very good vid, thank you
This video was incredibly well made.
Amazing video!
Really cool video 👍👍
Definitely needed this video after summit 🤯
Great video!
Absolutely badass delivery by Comona, absolutely sensational tournament.
I wish you guys to make a video analyzing proto's lucina, how beautiful the kola set was
I've been waiting to watch this! Very excited
i am SO happy to see Dom here specially taking out Dabuz with Richter
This tournament is gonna be INCREDIBLY hard to top for SO many reasons. What a time to be alive
This tourney was so good, i wish i could experience it fresh again.
Any time Light speaks he gets bodied (Acola Gimvitational, and Kola)
He beat everybody he lost to tho both kola and proto
yeah but then he 3-0d kola in their next set
where was the coverage for proto??? literally mentioned him like for 2 minutes in this video and he won the whole thing. Reminds me of when proto won and no one really went up to congratulate him, people were still sitting in the couch w the blankets, or crossing their arms behind proto. I wonder how this video would have been if light won the event...
keep up the great work
The Dabuz flub against Cosmos was so incredibly heart breaking.
Imo its one of your best video
PGstats once again you have come out with a banger analysis of the tournament however I did see one mistake which was that Ouch knew.
My favorite recap video they've ever done! So much content into a real 30 min segment.
Anyone else noticed that Acola wanted to play Anathema because he beat Onin. And in this summit, he did and won? Acola calling out that he's a better Steve lol
Onin please

Good video but gotta critique you all for barely touching on Proto's win with lucina of all characters. A video on what makes his lucina the best could also be cool too

I'm disappointed we never got to see Acola vs MkLeo. I really thought that was gonna be the grand finals

I just got recommended this video and saw the first 5 seconds and I’m in that clip from SSC omegalul
Crazy weekend!!! Felt bad for Myran was hoping that he’d take at least one set. Sparg0 looks good, not his peak but he did good for the long break he took (he’s still my favorite ultimate player) good to proto, I like him as a player altho I think my fav Japanese player is Zachary.
Tweek and leo played friendlies afterwards... they gonna level up so much now
I love this channel. I get to watch espn and skip/shannon after football and now I get to watch pgstats after smash events. THANK YOU
I don’t know who the heck thought kids would finally see it after they grew up now they found out that it was actually sus
It is still mindblowing to me that the ruleset allows for a character switch even when you win, making the stage counterpick useless

Honestly I wanted light to win the whole thing after his legendary losers run. However, once proto committed to lucina I wanted proto to win. As a lucina main I think she’s an underrated top tier. Every matchup feels doable with her and she kills stupid early and doesn’t really have exploitable weakness. Up out of shield for oos. Good recovery, kills early, good frame data, and can poke away with good spacing. Not to mention shield breaker is busted and I can’t count how many times I have used it off ledge to break someone’s shield who wants to wait by ledge. I can’t wait to sit down and really analyze protos summit winning lucina to see what I can implement into my own gameplay and improve upon myself to make sure I continue to win my locals, I’m 5/5 with her so far 👌
lets goooo lucina
I think around 12:22 might be missing a graphic or something, but it could also just be audio-only downtime.
Lol, yeah, it is kinda awkward now that you mention it
面白い動画をありがとう!
i have been waiting for this ever since leo and acola got eliminated! pgstats is just great
Whats says a lot about the japanese players is that a soon as Proto won doble down, he went back to japan and got fifth, eliminated by a surprising metaknight abadango.
