Always a great day when Mongrel Dog uploads a new video ! Another great adventure, full of excellent photography, good humour and boundless enthusiasm! Looking forward to Part 2. Thanks :)
A few years ago, I drove from Newman to Mt Meharry in a rented Nissan Patrol. I got about halfway up until it became too tough for me. There were 0.5m steps in the track that people had piled a few stones against to get up. Apart from lacking the cojones, I was scared of damaging the vehicle so I gave up and walked to the top. If you think you can really handle a 4WD, it's a challenge.
G'day Steve, We would have loved to have been on this trip with you it is just the sort of long distance walk-a -bout we love. Keep the rubber side down Mate, Steve.
Hey Steve. great insight on how others do their travel. I'll be doing a few months trip from Qld to Exmouth this winter .Might see you out there. Good on ya mate. Scotty.
I visited Whitnoom in 1990. I hardly remember any of the sights. I remember it was HOT. I've got to get back the WA one day and explore. Such a big place!
Hi Nerb1. It is a BIG State. Even when Borders are closed we (West Aussies) have a lot to be thankful for. The NW has never been so busy. Every camp ground and caravan park was full to capacity. Most of these Slackers would normally be in Bali but now they are forced to have Staycations. Glad i wasn't on the bike on Gibb River Road...very busy and VERY dusty. Thanks for watching.
@@4bnewb969 Nah...I've crossed this Continent (more than once) on a DR650. I prefer to do it on the R1200 but a T7 would be up for the task. Lots of suitable backroads to take if you look hard enough.
I remember crawling round whitnoom in the 80s as a kid still remember going into this factory building and all the tools and gear just sitting there, massive generators all covered in dust was eerie. Though the drive there stuck in the back of a shorty 40 on the bench seat over flogged out tracks was more memorable. Every time I get a whiff of red dirt and taste the dust it brings back memories.
Hi IO, the mine shut in 1966 so i am surprised that some of the infrastructure was still there when you visited. Still, it would have been difficult to access for a long time. I first visited the place in 2013 and have been there 3 times. I noticed a big difference in the 'decay' of the town over that short period. There is nothing left of the mine except tailings and foundations now. Thanks for watching.
@@mongreldogproductions Yea it was real barren All I remember is we set out from a geo camp about 3 hrs away no roads to Newman back then and I remember a massive ant hill and this pub stuck out in the desert. I was like 10.
Never get tired of the outback , spent a lot of time exploring around all those places around Tom price that you went , just love it . Looking forward to the next installment.
Hi PD, there is something about the harsh beauty of the Outback that keeps drawing me back. That, plus the fact that i am trying to escape the southern winter!

Great footage of this great State we are so lucky to live in. Steve, well done on living life to the full. When I visited Mitchell Falls 30 years ago in May/June, there was just 2 other 4WD's camped there. Going by your comments times may have changed.
Hi MD, the whole State is buzzing (especially up north) with so many locals having to stay home and not being able to travel overseas. There are very few places now where you would be on your own. There will be a lot of used vans and camper trailers on the market in a year or two when they open up international borders again. Thanks for watching. Glad you like the vid.
hahaha...if you take enough footage you're bound to come up with something you can use. We did a couple of runs just to get it right. Thanks for watching.
Great video thanks.. I hadn’t seen that spot that you slither under the sloped rock on the way up to Mount Augustus?? since I was there nearly 20 ago.. thanks, bought back memories.
@@mongreldogproductions well I remember going through it.. anyway it was great seeing that spot again on a video.. and I have an old pic somewhere on an old HDD of my 2 year old going through it. She is now 22
What a beautiful country we live in. You're so lucky in WA that you have so much natural beauty to see that is accessible. I love the smell of red soil and the smell that clears the nostrils as soon as you get a couple of K's away from water. Thanks for sharing Steve. At least I can watch life as the government does its best to stop us from living free.
Hi mark, we are blessed here in WA...so much real estate to explore. I am always drawn to the harsh beauty of the Outback. Glad you like the vid. Thanks for watching.
Hi BT, the trip was 6 weeks and then i need to time to produce the vid. I dont have a lot of downtime...there's always something goin' on. Watch this space for Eps 2. Thanks for watching.
@@mongreldogproductions You tricked me. I foolishly imagined the next video would have been the return leg after the Mototrekkin tour. You certainly get about. I always enjoy your videos. Cheers
@@brontarlabta.k.a.briantayl3484 Hi Bron, My R1200 is still in Brisbane...If all the ducks line up I should collect it mid August, ride to the Tip of Cape York and then return to Perth with the bike. I do have another motorcycle rally between now and then (on my DR650). So much to do; so little time.
Hey man is there any chance you could briefly cover this app you use that tracks your journey and photo spots/highlights etc in a video? It looks like a really great app I just don't even know what it's called haha.

Hi BTB, Thats right...you indicated you were gunna be up there. It would have been dusty, thirsty work on a bike. Very congested. I saw two Riders at Imitji both with bike troubles. One leaking radiator on a KLR and charging problems on a F800. Not much i could do for them. Thankks for watching.
@@mongreldogproductions We did it easy buddy ..I only seen one other bike ..another Africa twin on Kulumbraroo rd into michel falls ..We did the whole thing 2 up ..And not real busy we had done it all and finished just as school hol started ...
We have just done a very similar tour, but taken 3 months! Only disappointment was showing the burial site? I decided not too from the point of view of cultural sensitivity. I guess in time the beehive will cover all of it and you won't know it's there. Otherwise a good video.
@@mongreldogproductions just that pic. I believe we have to be a bit more culturally aware these days. There are movements around to close the Mitchell Plateau and Cape York because of tourists "disrespect " so we don't want to add fuel to the fire (my opinion). Otherwise a great vid- very close to the route we took out of Perth. We did half the Gibb because we had to come back to Broome, but we'll do the other half from Kununurra. UA-cam vids like yours give us more ideas.
@@sandyalexander Hi Sandy, they have already 'closed' the Tip of Cape York....unless of course you purchase a permit to go there. It has been added to the cost of the Jardine River Ferry price. There are several sites that are off limits and closed to the general public. This site that i visited is not one of them so therefore i question just how significant it is. I was as respectful at this site as i would be if i was visiting a public cemetery. I'm glad the vid may have given you some ideas. Regards
