Android 15 still projected for same release time, only the phones were released earlier than usual, no Google technically didn't fail to promise. Market materials also has the status bar icons aligned with with the front camera which is why I'd expect future software i.e. Android 15 optimized for Pixel 9 will adopt it, also given that Google is finally prioritising removing of the top bar as well as nav bar as long as apps start targeting Android 15 which will be a dream come true literally. Hence I don't think this even is the full potential of Pixel 9 as of now.
The 128gb storage paired with a Google One subscription for £25/year (200gb) makes the base storage a pretty compelling argument. Even for £25/year, the price difference between the 128gb & 256gb in the UK means it would only be after 4 years that this is no longer viable, by which point, many would have upgraded anyway...

Experiencing a slight lag when changing camera modes doesn't really bother me but what does is the stuttering when changing lens and the inconsistent focus quality. The stabilization is also decent but not good.
The rule with Pixel phones is you never buy a Pixel at launch unless there is a wild trade-in deal. they ALWAYS drop significantly in price a few months after launch. But I would take the design, 7yrs of updates & the software over OP & Samsung any day, not that the software matters because I personally use GrapheneOS which is Pixel-only regardless.
I traded in a phone I purchased for $200 unlocked and they gave me $525 for it at best buy so the Pixel 9 only cost me $300 out of pocket or $500 if you count the $200 for the device I traded in
Also ditching my 24 Ultra, the past 2 samsung phone have been plagued with software issues. Good luck dealing with Samsung custmer care. I got a pixel 8A, a pixel 9, and waiting for my 9 Pro.
For me irritating stuff is the Google search bar and the at a glance widget are not removable. Hope they won't make all their apps to appear on home page and make them fixed and non removable
Nice video as alway, i just wished they price the Pixel 9 at a lower price point. then go 999 for the Pro. they could've sold more i think with that price point
I am just now switching my pixel 5 for a 9 pro (when i get it on the 2nd) I am sad the didn't keep the fingerprint on the back, but oh whale. I am excited:)
Hi Sam, as a fellow Aussie I'd love to get an idea of whether the reception of the Pixel 9 is better than previous versions, particularly in more iffy areas out of the city. I used to own a Pixel 7 and felt it was a bit step backwards, and ended up selling it and going back to my 4A5G which was noticeably better. Any advice you have on this side of the phone would be awesome, cheers!
I disagree about the power and volume buttons being better on opposite sides of the phone. My last phone was an Oppo and the amount of times i have either muted the phone or taken a screenshot by mistake because of this layout is unbelievable. The problem is that when you try to push in the buttons on one side with your thumb you are squeezing the other side with your fingers and end up pressing two buttons at once.
I really appreciate the discussion about the stock launcher's lack of customizeability and the issues with third-party launchers. To me those two issues combined are a big downside to Pixel.
Hearing a lot of people are experiencing the same scrolling stutter and lag that the 8 had. I would love one but worried about that issue as it's the reason I got rid of my P8.
I'm waiting till Pixel 10 to buy one as my secondary phone. Currently main phone is S24. I want to wait for next gen of tensor chip to be made by TSMC instead of Samsung, that would bring tons of improvement.
Pixel 9 is not great for $800. But I got mine as a trade in for an iPhone 12 that was worth $250. For that value, its a blinder. I might use it for 5 years because it's just so refined and easy to use.
I purchased a 128 GB Pixel 9 today, from Mint Mobile, for $399; my 128 GB iPhone SE3 has 72 videos, 542 photos, 81 applications and 66.77 GB of available space 🤷I paid $429 for the SE3 and that is all that I'm trying to replace. I have declared a "holy war" on spending $1000 on a phone; that's just not an option anymore!
Am I the only one who doesn't like the aesthetics of the Pixel 9? In the past, Google had its own aesthetic on its phones, and its peak was with the Pixel 8. Why did it copy the chunky iPhones?
You are not alone brother. I also think that Pixel Peaked in Pixel 8 series and this new design is not that Aesthetic, simply iphone copy and that camera bump is just ugly tbh.
Sent my iPhone 16 back for a 16 pro because i cant do 60hz, especially not for $900. Then i saw a deal for pixel 9 for $650 and sent back the 16 pro as i dont want to spend $1100 on a bloody phone. After 24 years of because a devout apple customer I'm done. Not prepared to pay the insane hiked prices any more. Base macbook models only haybing 8gb is a total joke. Stock android is a delight and apple ecosystem is not worth the price difference for me. Have bought a 16gb chromebook and now i have linux for dev work and its just such a great expeience. Love it.

I've owned the Pixel9 and i get ZERO shutter. This thing is a fast taking photos as my girlfriends iphone 14 Pro. The problem in your phone is probably caused due to a rogue app attached to your camera. To fix this, I would remove camera access from all Non-Google apps and then try again and I bet you'll have zero problem. Also I don't get your point on the 128gb. Many people, like me, are quite happy with the lower tier storage, if I wanted to go higher I have the option to pay the extra money to get one.

The Pixel 5 was the last phone with unlimited Photos storage @@truliny-xyz
a good review indeed.
with references to other phones and long term concerns/outlook.
it shows how the actual phone one should buy is the 9 Pro with at least 256 GB, and the 9 with 128 GB is the sacrifice, if the budget is limited.
It is so overpriced compared to other flagships. If Google sells it as a mid ranger, it may have more sales.
Agree, the 6-7 had a great price, google got greedy again making it priced as a premium phone so it's a harder to go for pixel 9 over the competition
The rule with Pixel phones is you never buy a Pixel at launch unless there is a wild trade-in deal. they ALWAYS drop significantly in price a few months after launch. But I would take the design, 7yrs of updates & the software over OP & Samsung any day, not that the software matters because I personally use GrapheneOS which is Pixel-only regardless.
who's rule is that?
I traded in a phone I purchased for $200 unlocked and they gave me $525 for it at best buy so the Pixel 9 only cost me $300 out of pocket or $500 if you count the $200 for the device I traded in
Anyone else hope they keep the matte back with gloasy side rails? Im loving the feel of this phone. Better than my iPhone 15 Pro max.
Loved it!
Also ditching my 24 Ultra, the past 2 samsung phone have been plagued with software issues. Good luck dealing with Samsung custmer care. I got a pixel 8A, a pixel 9, and waiting for my 9 Pro.
OMG THANKS FOR MAKING YOUR VIDEO ULTRA WIDE
6:10 that was the most American sounding "experience" lol
I really appreciate the discussion about the stock launcher's lack of customizeability and the issues with third-party launchers. To me those two issues combined are a big downside to Pixel.
I feel the same for this phone so far this year!
Getting one for nearly $300 off, definitely a good deal, cheaper than the 6 its replacing.
If you dock the phone horizontally, all the buttons on the right side makes sense.
I just ordered it for US$ 399 on Mint mobile... can't wait
S24 Ultra or Pixel 9 Regular? Which is better for camera? Shutter lag etc?
Love it.
Do you know when the 9 pro will come out? There is a darte here in Australia? Or is it still later spring?
Feel like the comparison between "fluidity" between 3rd party/1st party launchers is such a huge nitpick since there's barely any difference at all. Pixel 9 prices on Swappa are already half MSRP
Gosh, I wish they'd allow for third party launchers...
Hate not being able to hide apps and make my launcher more organised 😅
I use my phone in left hand .. I'd love if the power ans volume were on the left. Great review and video
How about the network adapter problems or the green screen flickering hardware malfunction?
a discounted price would be awesome but im afraid if they discount the phone they will greatly decrease the trade in values.
Great video. Appreciate the 21:9 ratio
My Go-to pixel reviewer…
JB HiFi sell the Pixel 9 128gb (non-pro) for AU$1,347. That's crazy expensive!
I would not buy it at that price, wait for a discount and make sure to use trade in options
All this is preference . Matt side rails don't feel great vs the pros metal... Volume and power button placement doesn't matter theres 20 varieties of different car phone holders including a magsafe option.... the hole punch camera is the most nitpicky thing ever no one will notice it unless point out by a nit picker. for example youtube watch later bar doesn't line up with your titles. Most of your video in certain scene aren't lined up perfectly Plus it doesn't look bad at all not everything needs to be perfectly aligned all the time. nothing wrong with Tensor chips 95% of the world doesn't use phones to its max potential. Y'all just text, call, go on social media and take pictures calm down. iPhone and Samsung's taking pictures are not seemless all the time ... Not many people use 128GB let alone 256gb on a phone your in a very very small group of people if your filling up that space especially of cloud..... all updates coming in a month so they don't have a buggy launch. Your also in a very very very small group of people using third party launchers.. reviews should be tethered too the mass majority thats what the phone is for. theres phones out there for the minorities . Pixels launch with Discounts from the jump, Trade in + boost store credit. free 1 year subscription to their cloud. gemini advance, Discounts all over Amazon, Bestbuy, Veriozn, AT&T, T-Mobile, Discounts for this month being their birth month, get a free bud or watch with a purchase of the phone, black friday, thanksgiving , Christmas, New Years. Pixels been out for 9 devices and this happens every year. no one has ever paid full price for the phone lmao. Google search pixel deals it's really not that hard. for all the nit picking of small things you think you would include very basic things of deal all over the place right in your face. if you want to know how to make a real life review check out " Shevon Salmon- Google Pixel 9 Pro XL - Real Day In The Life Review (Battery & Camera Test) is a real human review. Not some Robot processor that nit picks "
Looking forward to your Pro review. I’m looking to get away from iPhone (I can’t deal with this keyboard). Pixels are usually my go-to, but not at this pricing. If they slapped a snapdragon in there I’d be ok with it.
I've always been a galaxy user but was thinking about switching to the pixel pro but for the same reason you've mentioned I might just end up sticking with the Galaxy ultra cos of the snapdragon processor. Would 100% get the pixel pro if it had this
what about heating issues? modem connectivity? still issues?
I ordered the Pro basically because they gave me nearly 500 dollars for my Pixel 8...plus I'll always have a case on it so the side rails wont be an issue.
Can't wait to replace my 6a with the 9a👍
Do you think it's worth upgrading from the 7 pro? Pictures and video is a big one for me. Is it still noisy at night time for video?
At the deal breaker part, were you talking about the regular Pixel or the pro models?
Just the regular
@@sambeckman What would your deal breaker be for the 9 Pro XL?
About the 128gb or 256gb storage. The google pixel line has unlimited storage via the google photos app
Not anymore it doesn't. That was only the early Pixel devices.
Got pixel 9 in australia last week brand new for $625aud (411usd) and im so happy with it
Pure Android enjoyment with the Pixel 9 💯🔥💯
Sam! I updated the IOS on my phone and now the background I setup with dark and light mode switching is broken.
I think we need an update guide from you on this!
Yep, once I get my iPhone 16 Pro, I'll start testing straight away and I'll have something ready for hopefully October 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Awesome video , audio got so much trouble need bass
I've owned the Pixel9 and i get ZERO shutter. This thing is a fast taking photos as my girlfriends iphone 14 Pro. The problem in your phone is probably caused due to a rogue app attached to your camera. To fix this, I would remove camera access from all Non-Google apps and then try again and I bet you'll have zero problem. Also I don't get your point on the 128gb. Many people, like me, are quite happy with the lower tier storage, if I wanted to go higher I have the option to pay the extra money to get one.
Now please make a video of customisation with pixel device 😂
It's surprising that camera hole punch of pixel 9 is almost similar in size to redmi 12 budget phone 🙂
"I love this phone"... uses a 3rd party launcher...
Off topic of the video. But which is the better phone all round, standard s24 exynos Vs honor magic 5 pro ?? Open to everyone
I have the pixel 8. I've had Samsung and apple flagships, why is it anytime a new flagship comes out the previous one gets glitchy? Even when I don't do the new update
Hey bro! Just t keep the video size the same in your upcoming videos because it fits the screen. I appreciate your hard work, love from Pakistan 🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰
do you know why on videos i shoot myself dancing on the front camera (the pixel satands against a wall) the image is getting in and out of focus? I s there a solution?
Im skipping this one because google is charging iphone prices for a phone with subpar hardware
you know when it come to open sorce app recommendation i always had this channel in my mind,so i kinda need your help now sam is there any open source screenshots app that could took screenshots of whatsap view once picture sam ?
I've tried pixel 3, 6, 7, and 8. None of them could replace me iPhone. The 9 BLOWS iPhone away!
