  • JULIET UZOR | In today's sleeve transformation, we're sharing how to add sleeves to a sleeveless top effectively. With this method, you can add sleeves to dresses, tops, jumpsuits and any other items of clothing without sleeves. This top was purchased during one of my thrifting experiences after many people requested me to film it. So I do hope you enjoy this one!

Thanks for notifying me about the audio loss in the first upload. It has been rectified and I hope you enjoy the video. Here’s the link to the video I mentioned in the video ua-cam.com/video/cQuuzoYRjyE/v-deo.html

Thank you. I have a thrifted dress that had a very wide scooped neck. I have a sleeveless top w/ a neckline I prefer. I'm marrying to two but I wasn't sure how to add sleeves to the new bodice. Your video gave me the information I need to get the job done.

I like that you focus on sleeves, because that is the my trouble spot since I have granny wings. Most shirts are tight in this area making me look extra strong. Lol

As a bingo wings owner I'm a massive fan of attaching sleeves 😂
Question though: If you were to use a sleeveless paper pattern and wanted to attach sleeves, would you leave the armscye as is or alter it?
I've heard so many conflicting pieces of advice on this, so your insight would be much appreciated 🙂

Ahhh... so I would test the bodice out using some scrap/muslin fabric to check for fit because sometimes, the dropped armhole look looks nicer with larger-looking sleeves... I don’t know if this makes sense. But I’m trying to say that personal preferences differ.

This is so much work. Just for a sleeve. Gosh.

Did the extra fabric match exactly? W by did you add extra width to pattern.? Didn’t understand.. Really want to learn this technique. Thanks for your effort.

The pattern for the sleeve she used had a smaller circumference than the arm opening of the top.
Arm opening and sleeve opening need to correspond in length to make fitting in a sleeve possible, otherwise you'd have the shoulder seam pucker as you try to attach the too small sleeve.
You can, however, make the sleeve bigger and have that extra material gathered at the shoulder, which is what was done in this video.
Hope this helped make things clearer for you 😀

They didn’t match exactly because the extra fabric I used was a voile- like fabric whilst the fabric from the shop was a georgette fabric. They were similar in weight - that’s why I used them.

Secondly, the arm scye of the top from the shop was 60cm whilst my existing sleeve paper pattern measured 50cm all around. So I had to slash and spread the paper pattern to ensure that the sleeve would fit into the armhole of the charity shop top. I hope this helps?
