I bought my C7 as soon as the C8s came out the C7 prices were down but if I would have waited I would have paid a lot more the C7 Z06 there's been times I could have sold it for the cost of it new the value of the Z06 manual transmission seems to have rising because they are hard to find

My two cents worth......Found my 2002 Z06 in the hemmings in 2018. Torch Red over mod red. One owner, one hundred percent original, fourteen thousand miles, no modifications and pristine. Gentlemen had it listed at 26.5K. Didn't know the market on these cars so I called my friend who does. He said the manheim number at that time was 22K. I'd never heard of manheim before but he explained and I understood and that was my offer. The gentleman said "I can't take 22, but I can take 23". Best 23 grand I ever spent lol. Keeping it forever. I LOVE THAT CORVETTE

I bought my 2012 GS 3LT Heritage package 6spd manual with 13.25k miles at the bend over price of $46k in May of 2023. Dealer wouldn’t budge a nickel. Two factor that sealed the deal. I had just lost 3 other GS’s in the past month that had just hit AutoTempest the day before I called. While I was looking for the Jet stream blue color, this one was silver with a red interior. In high school my Dad had a 71 350/270hp auto car in Silver with a red interior. Drove that car on dates, to proms, etc. Nostalgia is a powerful thing. I’ve driven my Vette 6500 miles since purchase and it is not my daily driver. Love it and no intention on losing “depreciation” $ any time soon. 😂

Great job, Lyle. Love all your videos. I had a C6 3LT base ('09) about ten years ago. Sold it with 19K miles for $26K. That was market price at the time. Two or three years ago I looked at the market, missing my car and thinking of another, and the price was about $10K more than I sold my car for even though six years had passed. However, as you point out, the market is actually quite stable if you remove the "once in a lifetime" bubble we've been in these past few years.
I'd been looking C7's and found one in December with only 7900 miles in the color I wanted (Black, Red interior) and pulled the trigger at $46,500. The car is in truly "like new" condition. I don't think I bought at the height of the bubble, but I'm sure if I'd waited a year or two the market correction would have played itself out in my favor. But, I'm not selling it anytime soon, so values going forward aren't that important to me.
I love the C7, and even though the architecture is completely different, it seems much more closely related to the several C8's I've driven than its older siblings. I'm continually amazed at what an upgrade it is from the C6 (which I also loved). The C6 seemed to me more akin to Corvettes of the C4 and C5 years, kind of creaky, little attention paid to outdated interiors, not very stiff, but still an absolute blast to drive, and one of the best looking Corvettes of all time, especially the wide bodies. But the C7 is a totally different animal, even in 1LT trim as I have.

    Fascinating stuff, thanks Lyle.
Over here in Australia, Corvettes remain out of reach for regular people. Here are some examples of the asking prices in online ads:

    C6 2008 coupe auto, 39,000km, $110,000

@Justins_shed- When I was in Australia ten years ago lots and lots of things were out of reach for me as that is the most expensive place I have ever been. Why are these cars so expensive? Is there a special tax, extra import fees or is it even possible to have a used one shipped there?

    • @Justins_shed
      @Justins_shed 3 місяці тому +1

@@JohnSmith-ti2kp Private importing is viable when cars reach 30 years of age. Younger cars have to be imported by an approved supplier, converted to right hand drive and certified as meeting the national vehicle standards. That process doubles the U.S. wholesale cost and by then, with the Australian dollar being worth around 65 U.S. cents, the retail price for new C6s was north of 150K and for C7s, around 200K. That was for a base model with options. Importers concentrate on Z06s, so add another 50K . . .

Thanks Lyle for the research and in providing some market data.
Buying a used car is not an investment in most cases. Enjoying each rides is the reason I smile as I drive the Vette, knowing it will still depreciate somehow. On the other hand, keeping the car in pristine condition, well maintained and with low millage will always attract a buyer welling to pay « what it is worth on the market » and perhaps a little bit more.
Leaving up-North, I still see some adds here disappearing in reasonable time for the « super clean / great looking convertible » as a niche, with an acceptable market value.

Wonder how the C8 ADM crowd is feeling these days? Hopefully the days of dealers preying on potential new Corvette purchasers is thankfully over. History has shown patience gets richly rewarded when it comes to these cars. As an example, purchased my 17 Z51 new off of a dealers lot with almost a 20% discount when all was said and done. Dealership, which was a couple hundred miles from my residence, even trailered the car to my home for delivery at no charge! There are still deals out there if you look hard enough and importantly remain PATIENT!

Bought my 08 3LT convertible A6 en 40.3k miles in 2021 for 29k. I bought it from my uncle who is friends with the Chevy dealership owner and he could've sold it for 33k all day at that time. So I've taken a hit but I put down 17k cash and I only owe 5.5k on it now. Kind of a big loss but I bought it for fun and not as an investment. I won't sell it unless I got an offer that I couldn't refuse that would also get me into a "blue devil" ZR1 or a 2011-13 grandsport that is in amazing shape without increasing my payment much, so it doesn't matter much anywa because that probably won't happen lol

C6 are still dropping but I expect them to bottom out. C7 have dropped fast.
C8 is beginning to neutralize and go down for a stingray.
Cars like the C5 Z06, C7 Grand Sport and Z06 will continue yo be steady snd hold more value.
I bought my C5 convertible and I could easily make $1500 to $2000 on it today in my area. .

Thanks for the update. You have great content always. However in he real world, not auctions, try and buy a C6 Vette that is in good shape for those numbers. In Florida especially. Any dealer putting a nice one in the auction needs money bet on it. Great paint, clean as a whistle interior, no crazy mods, you find a dealer to sell one for 25K. Won't happen. Private they go for even more. 09's are the lowest production number C6 Vette for that base model and convertible. With the active exhaust add 15 hundred. Here convertibles are cheaper than coupes. Top down weather is a month at best without roasting. Plus they are slower due to the weight as you know. A dealer with a nice Vette for sale gets top dollar and if it is any color red add a grand. over 80 K seems like the magic number for the numbers you furnish. Over 120K and condition way more important than the miles. You do a hell of a job on all your info vid's. I watch all of 'em if they are on C-6's mainly. Keep up the great work!!

Yup I noticed that also. I bought an auction Corvette from a dealer. Never a thought about whole sales numbers. No wonder the dealer was so Flexable with the price. Just one of those factors that It was a win win for both of us. I'm sure more for them, but still not painful for me. My time and money to make it a more trustable car would apply to any car or truck that's used. The driving enjoyment is worth every Dollar. Guess having a used car virus buying new has always been worlds apart on resale, should it be use as trade in. Not being a dealer, the whole sale end just floats over my head. Glad my wife use to work financing at a dealership. My Reality check.

I greatly enjoyed the C5 price report as a welcome contrast to the low ball offer I got back after a very quick computer assessment of my convertible's value from Carvana, I have no plans to sell, but got curious because I am about to spend money on the car.
I enjoy mechanical amusements , so since I happened to be driving by, I stopped to check out the glass multi story automobile vending machine carvana has on one of their properties I don't know what I was expecting, but was kind of let down to find the machine is pre programmed to dispense only the desired car when a large token, about the size of your hand, is inserted into the coin slot, the only action the customer has to activate the machine .
Still , all in all, I dig that kind of stuff. I guess I was hoping for a juke box kind of key pad, with the possibility of dispensing any car one might desire from the display.
