    I colored my hair last night for the first time ever with Rainbow Henna Strawberry Blonde. I was beginning to get a gray fringe around my face. I used green tea and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to half of the container of henna. I left it on for about 90 minutes. It looks great! All the gray is covered. Yay 😀

    Love henna, been using it for years! Have you tried SURYA Brasil Henna? It's a liquid henna that you can use directly out of the bottle, no prep. I use it every 4 weeks to touch up my roots (and it covers grays!). Super simple and way less mess.

    Interesting experiment. Your hair result is ace by the way. I have tried henna and then indigo on top in an attempt to get the darkest brown but it just didn't take. The indigo left a green/blue shade as you mentioned and then washed out almost immediately just leaving the orange from the henna (on white hairs). Tried it for about 4 months but nothing worked which was a shame as this form of colour is my preference to box dyes. Not to mention the whole process was over 2 days and took 5 hours. It was a situation.

    Fabulous video! I have used henna for more than 15 years. I was a manager in a health food store so using non-chemical hair color was a must. I used to use Surya Brasíl henna but switched to Rainbow and LOVE it. I mix with coffee and apple cider vinegar to a pancake batter consistency. I mix in plastic bowl and use a wide hair color brush to deposit. No dripping at all then wrap in a microfiber towel. (It easily washes clean in washing machine)
    I’ve learned something that only you as a trained stylist would know! All along I’ve been using Light Brown! I’m going to switch and use a shade without indigo! Thanks! Oh….Because I’ve you, I’ve embraced my curly hair after 50 years!

    • @alysonlupo
      @alysonlupo  2 роки тому

      Hey, if the light brown works for you, by all means keep using it! I just mentioned all that because of the green cast I got in my trials. If you don't see it on your own hair, keep on keepin on! Also, I've heard good things about Surya! Last - curious why you add coffee? For the extra acid?? I'm intrigued!

      @@alysonlupo When I initially did my trainings with the rep for Rainbow…. She suggested adding coffee or tea as a liquid to temper the green cast that might happen with Indigo. It also keeps the reds less bright.I’ve done it this way for years.
      As a buyer in the natural food store, I learned a lot from the company trainings. I believe Rainbow even suggests coffee on their detailed instructions.
      It covers my grays beautifully and even looks like my hair has been highlighted!

    I used to do henna waaaaay back when, and I would add one tip to your arsenal: petroleum jelly around the hairline and ears, so the henna doesn't stain the skin. Unless the Rainbow brand doesn't have that issue, in which case, great! :D

    I have used the henna from Jacob hooi
    If I see you’re video, I always have used to much powder 🙈 it is easier te apply wen it’s thinner!
    It was like mud, when I mixed it

    I use to have natural cooper hair and now it’s more like auburn color; Wanted to try Henna for a long time but afraid. What color would you recommend? I love your videos and hair advice. I think it’s great you have found your passion.

    • @alysonlupo
      @alysonlupo  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Deborah! I'd say go for the auburn, as Henna won't lighten your hair. But always do a strand test either by using a good handful of shed hair from the shower, or a piece in the back still attached to your head you won't see if you end up not liking it. The former would be the easier method for sure!

    Curious where in your haircare calendar you would fit henna color and, does it dry your hair? Do you follow with a deep conditioning treatment shortly after? I do henna my hair monthly to cover grays for years, and having 2b waves I'm just learning about your haircare recommendations. Henna does help exfoliate my scalp and I'm not sure how it impacts my hair though, and how I should care for my hair after.
    Also FYI I mix ~40% pure red henna +AMLA powder with ~60% indigo, to get a medium brown, the Amla powder prevents it from getting too warm but it's still overall warm but not orangey.

    • @alysonlupo
      @alysonlupo  6 місяців тому

      Ok that is FASCINATING about the amla powder. Indigo can turn things a bit green in my experience, so I've avoided it. Thanks for that tip! For me, I do henna on a weekend when I can leave it in for several hours. It really seems to work as a deep treatment for me, so I have no need to deep condition after. I just rinse really really good and use a leave-in conditioner and style as usual and my curls are so happy. I usually do this once every 2-3 months, whenever I want to warm up the color a bit. If you're using it to cover gray, maybe every 5-8 weeks and you have a coarser/stronger hair type than I do, it's possible it may add some stiffness to your hair. Deep conditioning with a protein-free deep treatment should counteract that for you, adding pliability to your strands. Bet the color looks beautiful on you!

    I used Henna years ago and absolutely loved the way it conditioned my hair. It actually made my wavy curls really nice, like it added a certain 'heaviness' and softness that helped them keep their shape. It definitely seemed to help defrizz my hair! The problem I had was with the colour, which varied from bright orange to a deeper auburn colour. I am naturally a 'mousey' blond, around 7-8 level (with some grey coming in). When I used henna, I had a lot of light blonde dyed-in highlights and those are the ones that seemed to pull most "orange." I would love to use Henna in a more subtle way like you have but don't know if it would be possible with my hair colour. Do you have any thoughts about how one could use Henna on mousy blonde hair to achieve a subtle effect? I'm wondering what colours would be possible to achieve on dark blonde hair? And if it would be better to wait until the natural colour before trying? I have always loved red hair too but just not "too" red. I absolutely love your colour and would do it in a second if something like that effect was possible for me. :)

      Research using mostly cassia with henna.

    • @alysonlupo
      @alysonlupo  7 місяців тому

      I would opt for a lighter, more strawberry red than an auburn shade. It won't show up much on the darker parts of your hair, but will give your natural highlights a warm cast you'd probably like. :)

    I have very light brown hair and had just purchased the medium brown Henna. Now I'm thinking I should take it back! I'm worried about the green hue! Now I don't know what to use. I don't like my hair super dark.

    The brand: Mehandi- Ancient Sunrise henna should be capable of creating a brown rather than a red shade. There are other components that are added the remove the brassy shade and also can remove the golden to achieve cooler or ash shades. They advise you to clarify your hair from chemicals with a special wash, and use particular methods to avoid the green shade to develop. Your videos are fun. Thank you!

    as a natural redhead > red is a hard color to start with the strip just like black hair - so it takes several bleaches to get the good blonde * been there done that for years) * but after 6 - 8 weeks the bonding to the hair shaft the henna can be bleached and takes as much time as my natural hair color --- and if it is pure henna and not metal-based your hair will not smoke and burst into flames LOL but you should inform your hair person if you are reversing the hair color,, I use the red rainbow and I have very amazing red hair -- it is very natural orange and red - its amazing but I am a redhead : )

    I will tell you something about this product after I tried it
    It contains chemicals 1\because I was allergic to it a lot, and it creates a layer of dandruff on the skin of the head and beard
    2\It does not change the color of the hair to black, even though I used the black henna type of this product for the hair
