Refreshing to see the overpowered cavalery charges in Medieval 2. Turns out people actually die when they get run over by a metric ton of flesh and steel.
There's no such thing as a metric ton. The word is 'tonne', American. You don't get to change the spelling of words for systems you don't even use.
@@KamikazeCommie501there is also. Such a thing as figure of speech to exaggerate and add some visual as to how heavy that would be. No need to be so critical over a comment made for fun
@@KamikazeCommie501 Calm down, commie. Don't make me get a helicopter.
@@KamikazeCommie501 doesn't realize words change in spelling and meaning over time. Language means nothing unless we give it meaning so dont take it so seriously.
@@KamikazeCommie501 Thanks for correcting me. I'm not an American and actually use the metric system exclusively. But "metric ton" just sounds heavier than "tonne" :D
The AI actually taking a proper defensive position is something I never expected to see again, too bad its in a 17 year old game :(
AI in old TW games is notoriously bad though. Medieval 2 without mods is rough.
@@rexxflash6112 For real, I'm having a long war with the Khwarezmian Empire over control of Mesopotamia and Armenia as the Byzantine Empire in Stainless Steel (2 turns per year too). Really does feel like 2 superpower behemoths going at it with many armies, etc.
The game has aged fairly well AND there's a freecam mod on moddb out so that the camera controls, which most people complain about from the newer games.
I love the historical games, but you're delusional if you think WHTW isnt the best title in CA's lineup. @@rexxflash6112
@@SplendidFactor, the Khwarezmian Empire is actually pretty weak compared to the Byzantine if you are playing as latter.
It's insane to face a Total War AI that isn’t constantly reforming its line.
They reform every time a unit is wiped out....^^
Especially when the enemy peacefully accepts, while you're sallying out, that a lousy ballista from the side at point blank is slaughtering the flower of chivalry en masse. As long as your enemy doesn't have particularly far-reaching ranged units, you can destroy entire armies with a ballista or two....The AI (infantery and cavalery) simply doesn't react to siege weapons - except for ranged cavalry, pavese-crossbowmen and longbows etc....
But of course that ruins the fun of the game.....:)
@@mikeromney4712 yeah but then youd have to lug around siege weapons
@@Schaden-freude sounds like a good thing honestly.
@@Schaden-freude Not in you standing garrison....
After years of playing WH, it’s nice to see entities actually die on a cav charge, instead of just brushing it off as a boo boo and getting back up. If a horse ran into you full speed, even if you didn’t die I don’t think you’d be getting right back up.
Play some Bretonnia. Their cavalry rocks. Routinely rack up hundreds of kills on my Knights.
If a horse ran at you at full speed it will probably kill you, and break its legs in return.
And cavalry that will disengage when told to rather than going all "no man left behind oorah" and turning back to get Slow Dave.
@@AshenVictor that happens all the time in med 2, you move them away then suddenly one slow guy gets tagged and they all fight instead of running away and reforming for another run
It's not the horse that kills you, it's the 15 foot lance that will ruin your day. The men who are sent flying aren't just knocked aside by a charging warhorse, they've been brutally impaled by a a spike with the full mass of with the man, horse, and armor driving it forward. No $#!t they shouldn't be getting back up!
I'm glad we're seeing Medieval 2, I love the variety.
I'd honestly love to see a short series continuing this campaign.
same here and the views are pretty good so far as well, so i hope legend does more on this one
@52:07 You can see that the 9 Feudal Knights, who exclusively fought unbreakable Spearmen for the entire battle, managed to inflict 100 casualties. Absolute heroes.
That's 9 dead knights. Only 1 survived.
Legends live on in the tales sung of their exploits
Love the title reference already
I love the medieval 2 videos, please keep making more! Miss these so much.
Medieval II is back on the menu boooooys !
We need a third video !!!
Seconding this!
"Agent Detected" means the agent was killed in action, so that death sound you heard at the end of the turn was probably the enemy assassin being killed. "Agent Found" means they escaped
You can see where the agent is when they escape too. Both assassins and spies.
How I'd love to see a new Medieval game with historically accurate factions, names, coat of arms etc. Retinue system would be actually great because of how many different Lords commanded units of their own household.
I'd like to see separate timelines as in Original Medieval game Early and Late Medieval period.
Also languages and dynamic music changes like in Age of Empires 4 easily the best feature from early French to late language evolution.
That sounds a little like Crusader Kings
@@ZiggySol which is good, so why not
Yes Medieval 3 is the most requested game (maybe empire 2) but they went with Pharao for some reason.
@@HansWurst1569 because if they release medieval 3 they no longer have a break glass in case of emergency release. we are currently in the milk the fanbase phase of the IP rather than release good games phase
@@Schaden-freude Fair enough
I always loved the generals comments and pre battle speeches they should bring that back, adds character
Legend's England Role-playing Medieval TWII campaign remains my absolute favorite rewatch.
*(2nd is the Marcus Wolfhart TITW Migration Masterclass)
Yes! Glad we got a part 2 of this! I watched the full thing last time and I wanted more.
where is the part I ?
@@maxmagnus777 He did it last week, so just look in his past videos. It should be the most recent Medieval 2 video other than this one.
@@ktvindicare I've tried to look it up and found nothing. I was away for a month and I recall watching the part one.
This is a fun campaign for real, wasn't expecting him to revamp it.
Anyways tnx for the answer, cheers!
@@maxmagnus777look at vids created 1 month ago. It's there. I'd know, i looked for it yesterday
That pure cav siege was nuts. I know Legend has pulled it off before, but it's defo up there consider how tight he cut it with this one.
And it actually panned out like a true Medieval tale. The lord fought tooth and nail with his knights to pull an impossible win, only to get ambushed on their way out, but then rise above the occasion once more.
As for firing range. As far as I know, there are only three of them (not including cannons) - a throwing spear, a standard bow and a war bow (labeled as "high range", if I'm not mistaken). They are all the same to each other. But what has a very strong influence is the altitude. In Medieval 2, the higher the archer stands the farther he shoots. There were funny battles when I fired at the other side of the map from the top of the mountain. But in this case, the arrows fly for a very long time, and accuracy suffers. That is why in Medieval, unlike Warhammer, the relief is much more important.
It’s a good day whenever Legend posts Medieval 2 content!
Recently gone back to older titles after this latest DLC debacle, certainly some classics out there. I HAVE A CLAYMORE HERE FOR YOU JIMMY
53:10 Ambush battle (as the defender)
58:29 End of the first turn
1:27:20 End of second turn. The king died, all hail the king!
1:35:21 Legend of Total merciless
And we’re back with the best total war game ever made
Can’t believe it’s old enough to be in highschool
I clicked on the vid and thought it's an old vid, and then realized it's uploaded just 21 min ago lol. Even the mic sounds nostalgic somehow.
Such welcomed content. Hope you come across more disaster battles and campaigns for any of the older TW titles.
I would love to see more of these disaster campaigns. Unlike your livestreams, where the right moves are made 99% of the time I want to see a shit show turned to gold
Lol, I was just recently going through your old SYDC covering M2TW a RTW. It's so nice to see it back on the menu. :D Keep it up Mr. Legend!
Great to see a part two! Always love a good disaster campaign, no matter what game it's in.
man, the sky box in this game is still very beautiful and the city looks massive.
I am very happy to see Med2 content! I hope there will be more!
Really pleased to see part 2 of this!
I used to win 100 vs 2000 battles with 2 units of cavalry in Medieval and Rome 1... I know it was broken but I still long for those epic moments
I wasn't expecting a followup on this, but I am so happy it happened!
Thanks for making Part Two^^
13:57 that was the best cavalry charge I've ever seen, damn that was satisfying to watch.
SYDC medieval 2 is my fav legend content by far! Wish you got more worthy submissions. Thanks for the content legend.
Loved seeing part 2 of this! Would love to see a part 3!!!
What started off as a campaign without money but an army, ended up in a campaign with money but no army in the first video. Now there is both money as well as an army, so to me the campaign is fixed. Thanks for the second part, and I hope UA-cam doesn't think this video is bad because of viewing numbers
I just started playing medieval on my phone,am in love.. i used to play stronghold crusader in my childhood
I admire your dedication to saving this disaster. This is a good series.
If I recall correctly, town militia do still have a reduced spear bonus vs cavalry (or at least in the vanilla grand campaign), it's just not in the description. In the text files it will be spear_bonus_4 instead of spear_bonus_8, but for some reason only those with the higher bonus show the modifier in the unit traits in game.
Either way, they're less effective than spear militia vs cavalry, which is the point you were making, so still right.
Love the music that plays when victory is all but certain.
being unresponsive is what makes cavalry so good in the first place, you can't expect horses to just turn whenever you want on a whim like it is a kart.
Also on Rome and M2 there are a lot of cavalry that have the "may charge without orders" trait that makes them very stubborn, thus people think it is a responsiveness problem when it is just a trait of the unit.
I have thousands of hours in med 2 and Rome 1 and never noticed impetuous (med 2) not "may charge without order" actually do anything. I used Barbarian noble cavalry, Teutonic Knights, Chivalrous Knights, etc. Never seen them charge without order.

"may charge without orders" makes that unit attack the closest enemy when given a charge order. so if you try to make it charge a far unit and there is one close, it is likely to charge the close one. makes using groups pretty ass on occasion
I like how Welsh acts like an end game crisis. They have set out to eradicate every single vowel on the face of Earth.
I'm happy to see a continuation of the previous Medieval 2 disaster campaign.
enjoy seeing this legend feels like a throwback. Can i request more episodes? play this campaign out?
Based Medieval 2 🙏
Ahh yes, finally a good TW game.
I love how more expensive dlc somehow made entire total war warhammer bad for some people
@@Gans848 I mean Medival 2 is always a great game lol WH 3 on the other hand may soon become "Was a Good Game"
@@Gans848 For the others, the broken and skin-deep mechanics make it bad long before that. Crusader Kings is expensive, but it is also sophisticated enough to justify the cost, and has a significant modding community to add niche content, this is no longer there for total war
@@tonyfranksland428 I dont think that its possible for warhammer 3 to be bad. If they somehow fuck it up, everyone will simply play on older versions of the game and pretend that they simply stoped updating it. There is alredy enough content for hundreds of hours anyway
Only it's always been bad :D@@Gans848
Love this game. Nice see you playing it again
As a person that has never played any Total War game except for warhammer 2 and 3, I really enjoy all SYDC, whether they're from Warhammer, medieval or any other Total War game. Those last two from medieval 2 are great and I would love to see a little more medieval SYDC and SYDB along with Warhammer content. Keep up the great work
Those spearmen fought like dragons, mad props.
Good to see you regularly scratch your head at realistically plausible battle situations.
Its jarring to see how a 17 year old game has demonstrably better AI than their prized Warhammer cash cow.
Hell even how individual men in a regiment will turn to their side to brace against enemies approaching their flanks is something nice that feels sad to see dissapear in subsequent games, likewise for formations like the schiltrom.
Id play this game all the time if it got the remaster treatment with multiplayer campaigns.
Very enjoyable to chill out to watching this
" Have Mercy MiLord! I have Children to feed! "
Glad to see a part 2 for this SYDC
I was going to make a disaster battle joke about leaving reinforcements on AI control, but Legendd just smashed through it - amazing and enjoyable to watch.
I simply love watching you play saving total war medieval II desaster campaign
I didnt know you still played medieval 2. Very nice to see it!
Now this is premium content
So hyped we are getting a part 2
love to see more medieval 2
Thanks for doing a continuation !
Medieval 2 is such a whiplash from Warhammer 2, where every army can have only one lord, and that lord is a single model
The music gives me goosebumps
I just love the old school legend mimics dropping in.
" legend recruit a merchant "
Yeah. Let's remember when CA focused on making strategy games. I just fired up Shogun 2, since I find the modern titles too frustrating to bother playing anymore.
It would be cool to see Legend bring this one to a proper end. You got us hooked.
Yeah boyyy, what a way to start the week
Loved it, thanks Legend
Man, doing a frontal knight charge straight into enemy infantry units was so satisfying. Medieval 2 really nailed heavy cavalry. And Stainless Steel mod showed why heavy cavalry was truly OP, especially in early middle age period.
If they released a medieval 3 that’s just medieval 2 but with the graphics and responsiveness of the newer games, that would be amazing
by definition it wont be amazing since cavarly charges in the warscape engine are trash. the entire dynamic of medieval 2 would change if it was remade with new grah-fix
The only change I need in Medieval 2 is more settlements. Make the map as detailed as in Kingdoms but across the entire Europe/Mediterrean.
I dont think the lower responsiveness is that big of an issue. M2 actually makes it feel like youre controlling a big army made up off people, like the soldiers actually need time to react.
Mostly you just gotta plan ahead of time a bit. Makes the game a bit less micro and more tactics based Id say.
@@termitreter6545 it is actually a huge problem when you tell a unit to charge and only the frontline entities charge. I’ve had this happen with cavalry and infantry and it can completely fuck up a charge. And it can happen for no reason. It’s also annoying when you tell a unit to move and it moves in waves rather than a cohesive unit
@@scarletcroc3821Its definitely not perfect, but I wouldnt call it a huge problem.
Most of the time the system works well, assuming you give the unit enough space and time to react.
Nice necro-campaign! Please continue it, it's a blast, it really doesn't have to be a full stream like the last few, another episode would solve this situation completely. And it would be infinitely amusing to see you forget about that large force in the southwest again.
Yay Medieval
Heavy cav charges in medieval 2 feel so incredible
love it when 2013 legend medieval 2 vids get recommended
Love this, please more!
great to see some good me2tw desaster campaign´s
The Freecam mod for Medieval 2 is basically WH3 camera with infinite zoom out and in pmus much smoother controls
What I heard:
"I need to bring the human archers..."
Me:
Bro this isn't warhammer ofc they all human
Me, later, reading:
Oh
Lmao
Love the Medieval 2 videos
Thank God CA has not "remastered" this into some sort of trainwreck yet.
I played an HRE campaign because of the last video where I didn't let myself recruit calvary(only mercenaries and mission reward knights) Was a blast.
7:22 No no no no no no no no! Don't give him a kiss! 😂
4:16 Units do recover fatigue, it just takes awhile and you have to either stand them still or walk them.
Would love to see a part 3 of this! Actually I'd love to see you annihilate Wales no matter how long it takes
Fatigue does matter in this game. Just depends on the circumstances. Like if you're fighting 2 or 3 armies, you don't want your reserves to be needlessly tired or else they're going to move at a snail's pace when you need them most. They also fight worse when they're exhausted.
I haven't played vanilla in a long time, but at least in Stainless Steel 6.4, resting my troops and cycling out weak/tired units has probably saved me from losing out on quite a few heroic victories.
Return to me my green and "Peasant" lands. Hard to recruit and afford upgrades with low cash, forcing one to loot and be less chivalrous riskign the ire of the cardinals and el Popeye-Harry the king, Bedford and Exeter,Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remember’d. on sweet and pleasant lands again
With little care, this campaign could make a cool book. How a king rallied what few forces he had left after several pyrrhic victories to turn the tide on the seemingly endless hordes of enemies, one battle at a time.
YEAAAAAAH! mORE Medieval 2!
love some of your game choices there mate. Vermintide FTW.
always a fan of medieval 2
medieval video - instant like
Nice change of pace. Cheers.
this one was very fked, not just because of the situation, but the fact it's turn fkin 90 on a campaign that should be done by turn 60.
well done again legend
lets goooo more medieval 2 content
Love Legend vs the Advisor
Yaaay Medieval 2!! Given the state of TWW3 and the quality of M2TW, one of if not my favourite games ever, I'm at a point where I'd rather play the Call of Warhammer or Lotr mods than the official stuff to scratch the fantasy itch. Man what an absolute banger of a game
Great, another episode!
By the way, is there a reason the shadows on the campaign map are not activated? The map looks so "clean".
Love to see Med 2
Yes!! I love medieval
Been hoping this one.
Legend's laugh after executing prisoners is always funny
