My dad (RIP) turned me on to this song b4 I was even a teen back in the '60's. He passed in the early 1990's from a major brain annurism, sending me home wailing after he struggled for over a month to survive.!! I cry every time I hear this song, not because I am sad, but because I have dedicated this song to my father's memory. Praise God.!!!

Wow! This is unbelievable. Easily the strongest cover of Boxer I've heard. There's something so deeply satisfying about hearing a duo nail the harmonies in this song so remarkably well. It's becoming increasingly rare to come across S&G covers at open mics, but whenever I hear this song, I'm always singing along with the harmony part...You guys gave me chills from a song that I've heard probably about 2500 times. Mad respect!
Brought tears to my eyes
I have been listening to this song for 40 years now.
40 years of the original and every truly godawful cover at every folk festival and coffee shop as I hit the back roads.
Four decades dreading the opening bars of this piece of music.
So when I say that this is the best version of this song I have ever heard. I don't mean "This is the best cover I have heard." I mean that "I think that when Simon and Garfunkel did their reunion concert in Central Park it should have sounded more like this."

+T.K. Bertram What do you mean about Simon & Garfunkel's performance at Central Park? I really enjoyed watching the (video of) concert. I thought their version on that day was just as good as their album version, if not better (minus the minor screw up at the beginning)
+T.K. Bertram I second that. As close to a perfect version as it could get. Extra props to Sterling for letting the high harmony float light and soft in the background, like Garfunkel did, instead of murdering it like the bad covers do.

I play in a duet with a friend of mine. The song performed by these two is impeccable. But the most amazing thing is how Mike and Sterling are so connected throughout. I’ve experienced this connection a few times during a performance. When it goes off perfectly. Sterling gaze over at mike at the end says it all.

This is not just the Boxer. It is is the *Boxest* ;-) The best version I've heard.
I was mesmerized listening to this. The original is such a wonderful song: "I am leaving. I am leaving. But the fighter still remains." It's an anthem to every struggling champion, every man who grows old. But I have to tell you. As many times as I have listened to Simon & Garfunkel's album and live versions, your cover makes it honestly difficult to tolerate that original. Yours is perfect. So smooth. So harmonic. And the passion of the lyrics is as plain and as clear as that first time I heard it as a kid. Is it better than the original? Nothing beats the first time. But if I listen to this song again, I'll be seeking this version of it. Thank you for sharing it.

I never heard this song sadly before the SNL broadcast after 911. When Paul Simon played this I had goosebumps. Such an amazing song. They do a great job!!
Their voices are so complimentary. Impossible to distinguish much of a difference in their two beautiful voices.

I hold this song in a very special place, as I was once told I didn't have long to live, my friend who's a very gifted musician asked if there was something he could play at a memorial if I did die. This song was it, he told me how he practiced it with a fervor that made his family worry, and would play it for me when he was ready. He played it for me and it was incredible, it's a song that when I hear of it being covered cringe because it's so oft murdered. Anyway, thanks guy, I haven't listened to this song in years, as I outlived that friend, and it brings me a lot of emotion to listen. I like this more than the original :)
First of all you made me cry with your cover of this song,second thing is that you made me play my guitar again and sing. My mum died 6 months ago and it was tough time for me,i stopped smiling and enjoying my life,im 31 years old and was always a funny guy who made everyone smile but for the last year i forgot to made myself smile and be more happy. I revere Simon & Garfunkel who are probably the best duo in history who produced a quantity of timeless classics. The boxer is one of my favourites and your version equals at least the original.

OMG, this is so spot on and beautifully performed to perfection. Mike and Sterling's unbelievable ability to embody and transform their voices to match and sound like the original performers just blows my mind. From Simon and Garfunkel, David Bowie, Elton John, Radio Head, Toto,.. he/they do it and pulls it off masterfully. Also the insane guitar accompaniment makes it a total cream of the crop of performances. Mike you are truly a musical genius in every sense of the word. So Happy I found you, consider me a life long follower!

I remember exactly ONE time being moved by this song more than by Mikes and Sterlings version. It was on November 17, 2003 ... at the Staples Center in Los Angeles ... and I was looking at Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel on stage singing this song live right in front of me ... and I was singing along ... with tears in my eyes.

Absolute perfection. I love Jeff Hall and no disrespect to him but Sterling Cottam has an amazing voice. The two of you achieve perfect harmony. Impressive would be an understatement. Forget best cover, and it may be a sin to say this, but this was better than Simon and Garfunkel's version. This is the version that all others should be compared to. And I can't imagine anyone ever approaching this.

This was simply perfect. Loyal to the iconic original but yet entirely their own. The talent holding to Mike and his friends is nothing short of stunning. I'd pay to see them perform anywhere.
That was a truly spectacular cover of the song. Their voices mesh so well together, and the guitar playing stays in step with each other all the way through. I can't say whether I prefer this song, or More Than a Feeling which was also a superb performance.

True story: I was listening to some Mike Masse covers while doing something else on my computer when this title popped up. "Oh no," I said, "I don't want S&G's original, I want to hear the Masse cover," and guess what? The cover was not only nearly identical to the original, I think it's maybe even better! Either way, it's an utterly compelling performance.

I used to watch these two amazing musicians play at Mama's Cafe in Provo 1993, they packed the place and made living more enjoyable.
Mama's was the best. Loved Skip and Johnny, the owners.
@@mikemasse Yep I did a lot of work for them both. Johnny was a cool musician also, wrote some cool songs. Picture This and The Hinge were other bands I remember seeing play there.
I've seen The Simon & Garfunkel Story show recently (which was btw absolutely amazing) and I have to say that one day you two should definitely get the part in that project or have your own worldwide tour! You are perfect!!!!

Especially at the end, where they keep adding layers of vocals to the "Lie la lie" part until it sounds like a massive choir is shouting it in your ear
