There aren't many songs that have a line like "I was far too scared to hit him, but I'd hit him in a heart beat now" that is so perfect that the audience immediately screams it out and Sam knows it's no longer his line. So great.

That line is him saying anger is not a good thing to keep inside you - "thats the thing with anger it begs to stick around". He didn't hit the guy but still wishes he had and its eating away at him. Basically he is saying don't let the past make you a bitter aggressive soul

"That's the thing with anger. It begs to stick around." No doubt about it, one of the best lyrics ever written. So simple, so wise. It was the only line in the verses I caught and understood when i first started hearing it. It sums up the song so well. Highlights the theme perfectly. He says so much with so little. God damn. This song helped me through 2023, a year when dépression knocked at my door again. Curiosly I had the chance of visiting London, Paris, Madrid, and Lyon: my favorite of them all was, even more curiously, London. I heard myself singing random lines of this song while I was walking thru Trafalgar and Soho one night, and I had a couple of tears running down my face cause I couldn't believe I was living to see that city, yet the year felt like going to waste in so many levels. Thank you Sam for holding a hand for me throughout these tough times... And actually, in my case, I was 33 going under. I hope 34 are a bit gentler - and I hope to see him playing live this anthem someday.

If Bruce wrote a song "Born in the UK"... Freaking brilliant. What a banger of a song. Sam, you've been shot out of a cannon now. Entranced re-watching (over and over) of this video out here on the west coast of the USA. Full tilt, global reach is coming to you. Enjoy the ride. Will see you rocking a stadium out this way, surely sometime soon.

It'd rare anymore that I hear a song and within 10 seconds I know it's an anthem. This song is powerful. It gives me hope that the future isn't doomed yet.

I’m so proud as a Geordie that Sam is doing so well and his songs are incredible. The fact he’s playing this at Brixton Academy, one of my favourite ever venues is the icing on the cake.
The most exciting new artist in a generation. Amazing album, but this live performance is something else. Can’t wait to see him live in March. Amazing performer; great band, and not afraid to speak the truth. Go Sam!

One of my favorite artists, he seems to capture the existential dread we all grew up with and struggle with each day. Every song makes me feel so much.

@@lois3422 i wouldn't say i look exactly like him i just have similar features arranged slightly differently and a resting bitch face too which sam has in a lot of photos of him
The lyrics are so powerful and hold heartfelt meaning, the music and the energy reminds me of Bruce Springsteen, and I’ve seen him a few times, people might scoff at that however Sam Fender is most definitely the future, just let the kid grow, highly talented.
ahhhh not to be smug but I was there 🤗"smug face". Absolute magic, Brixton is a special venue anyway and Sam and his band were on another level ! An amazing night and a serious crowd. 🌠

Drenched in cheap drink and snide fags
A mirrored picture of my old man

@@some_g333 I’ve seen him live he is extraordinary
Writing songs like this and it's only his second album. Wow.
Guitar music is looking healthy again!
I can barely listen to this song without crying. and i've heard it so many times.
If he'd only ever performed this song , at this gig, and retired from music, he'd be a legend. Because everything about it is just unbelievably good.
Take a now, bonny lad.
Sam is single handedly keeping music alive. What a banger of a song.
That's certainly a subjective comment lol. Maybe in this genre, others are very much alive 😉😁
@@meikasroom851 Ikr it's like some people in the comments haven't heard any other music lol, there's plenty of brilliant artists out there, Sam is just one :)
Hardly!!! come on.
It'd rare anymore that I hear a song and within 10 seconds I know it's an anthem. This song is powerful. It gives me hope that the future isn't doomed yet.
This is the sound I’ve been longing for, for so many years
This guy blows me away man 🤦so talented
He has everything. Amazing composer, talented lyricist and phenomenal singer. And decent guy, which helps too.
Watching your growth has been phenomenal! You deserve all the success you’ve been getting and far more
He was top class from day 1. It was always going to be a matter of time. He was a standout in his teens
Sam Fender is the Springsteen of our generation man. Absolute fantastic lyrics, storytelling and melody. What a fucking guy
Reminds me also of War on Drugs.
I'm 62 and play bass in a covers band, I think the singers daughter must have suggested we do this and I'm thinking.... what the hell... never heard of him or the song..... and before I heard it, I downloaded the lyrics.... that's the thing that got me....... heartwrenching words....... then watching this live performance of it...Blistering.Then only yesterday (19th May) Sam has won an Ivor Novello award for it.... quite rightly. What a talent and voice for a generation.
Loving the geordie Springsteen, great to hear his voice being heard
that's a great description
At 56 there are not nany musicians these days that i can listen to.But this guy is just so naturally ralented and this song gets me everytime i hear it.The crowd love him.Great to see such a talent coming out of the North East of England and his supporters up here are proud of him
My nephew told me about this guy. Wow what a songwriter. Music is class love from glasgow 🏴
Proper anthem for our generation. Honestly cannot think of a song I have related to more in my life
I’m so proud as a Geordie that Sam is doing so well and his songs are incredible. The fact he’s playing this at Brixton Academy, one of my favourite ever venues is the icing on the cake.
I honestly believe this is the best version of 17 going under
The most exciting new artist in a generation. Amazing album, but this live performance is something else. Can’t wait to see him live in March. Amazing performer; great band, and not afraid to speak the truth. Go Sam!
100% agree, we are blessed to be alive at the same time as him. He is an artist for the ages
Wow one of they kinda songs that you NEVER want to end...sublime
Finally some actual song writing talent. Great song.
Watching this live would be the most cathartic and emotional experience
You're not wrong.
A stadium gig with everyone singing this would be just something else...
please please please put this on spotify. This song was made to be heard live. It's fkn amazing.
Haway man Sam.....Brill canny tune...The sax blows my socks off mind....Love it.
just hearing the guitar riff at the start gives me the chills. an incredible song and an even better artist ❤️
When an audience is screaming....no roaring the lyrics in unison its spine chilling..it .must feel like God level amazing to him...I doubt there's many better feelings in this world 😆
This song is so underrated! Absolute amazing performance, catching lyrics, nice guitar and overwhelming flow! I bet in one year many people will know who Sam fender is
"That's the thing with anger: it begs to stick around." This dude is so overlooked still in the states. Great song writer.
One of my favorite artists, he seems to capture the existential dread we all grew up with and struggle with each day. Every song makes me feel so much.
At 60 years old I love Sam fenders music he makes me young at heart I'm going to see him in Newcastle he makes me feel young at heart
Keep rocking son
Sam's live sets are just so amazing....... great band too lads!
I’ve been told twice now that I resemble Sam fender so I looked into his music catalogue, not only do I see the similarities in the way we look but this man writes like he’s lived my life, thank god for my friends comparing us
ngl if you look like sam fender you are absolutely blessed
@@lois3422 i wouldn't say i look exactly like him i just have similar features arranged slightly differently and a resting bitch face too which sam has in a lot of photos of him
This song is an absolute banger…proper modern classic. You don’t touch that many souls in a different way without being a good human. I love this guy
I think I will be listening to this absolute tune for the rest of my days… A masterpiece
This guy is fucking awesome so refreshing and still relatively unknown that's what makes him so good.
🌠
Nice one. He's tremendous live. Good chanter
I can't be the only one that gets strong Springsteen vibes from Sam Fender. A young, honest guy just playing belting tunes.
All the best to Sam as he takes a break from touring 💪
