I genuinely appreciate you being candid about money. I think it's important for us all to remove the stigma around money so that it can be less taboo and make others feel comfortable talking about it. I like to have a realistic idea of prices no matter the context. Keep up the good work. Your videos are a breath of fresh air and you stand out amongst others because of your honesty.

I enjoyed the Scottish food review! And seeing the houses. I liked the exterior of the first house, but my favorite "quirk" which I've never seen in the US, is stairs that go in two directions before you get to the first floor. I really liked the bathroom. Looking forward to next year's house hunting videos. (and Chad's crunching the chocolate!)

Fab guys! Back in the day I used to renovate houses in London. Was very lucky that my partner then was a very talented carpenter and his business partner was an electrician - I did the design element. Back then there were far more Granny style deceased estates (Death, Divorce, Debt) with original features (usually covered in layers of lead paint - Oh the memories). We did homes in Islington, Stoke Newington & Highbury and were so lucky to get started with a bank loan (as he was a professional tradesman) as opposed to a mortgage - repaid on our first sale. We lived in them (I fell through a ceiling once) as we worked. Agree that first house would look very pretty renovated but looked like an absolute money pit. The glimpses of the second looked good but as you know you never know until you start ripping things away - even if you get a good building report done. Great you are taking your time to see what's out there & as Chad says - the difference between renovating for profit or as somewhere to live is key. There are some cities like London with their own economy re. real estate. I'm in Sydney now - it's the same. International investors turn up at auctions with suitcases of cash! (auctions here are how most properties sell as they get very competitive high bids as demand is so great).
Best of luck, thanks for the great content - lovely seeing London and totally agree on the chewing/slurping/nose blowing ick!
Loved Ash's initial tentative diplomacy on the macaroni pie 🤣 deep fried Mars Bar maybe???

Like many people I watch youtuber content because it initially seems like something I would be intetested in i.e house decor or renovations. However what keeps me as a subscriber is the authenticity and relatable nature of the people making the content. This is why I love this channel - its down to Ash and Chad and their journey. Love the eclectic mix of content and blether (nod to Chad's homeland!). Please don't change! ❤

"No house is perfect. There's always something you have to compromise on." So true, Ash! I have a 50 year-old, two-bedroom with very little storage and no back garden (only a patio) in Phoenix. It's about 75 square meters. I have ONE kitchen drawer, LOL. I have spent a fortune on necessary replacements, but the home had good bones, no leaks, and is in a beautiful neighborhood only five miles from downtown. Every home has good things about it, and every home can be loved by someone out there. Choosing a home is all about weighing the good and the bad and prioritizing what's important to the person.

I'm definitely a fan of "Kitchen Chat with Ash and Chad". I love that you both discuss all the details, prices etc. I don't live in a major city but I do understand the bubble prices that exist in them. 🤑🤑🤑
That first house with the 'dodgy estate' behind it? Run Far Far Away! 😱 You could tear down an entire house but you will never ever change its Location. That's just reality. Try to be best pals with realtors so that you are their first call when a house hits the market. We bought our current house as a 'pocket listing' - essentially before it was even listed.

I like the chatty vlogs. As a clinician I can say that next year will be tough for some of the countries you mention. The last D means Debt. From researching Covid I learned that China has been in a financial bubble since 2008 (fish market guy was entrepreneur..etc) and USA House rep committee released report last week that Covid was lab. This will lead to sales. Also dropped prices you saw in area gives you leverage and bargaining. Do up your dream list. Export and analyse the prices and track them. Create evidence downward trend. Let the agents in the area know you are ready and you could get very lucky. Good luck!

Our prices (Australia) are also outrageous. Not as high as you have quoted, to be sure, but bad enough. If I was starting out now, I doubt I would consider buying. I think I would prefer to rent. I don't think you go on too much about money. You mention what things cost, but you don't go on and on about it! I am considering the possibility of painting my place. Even that is daunting! Thank you for the video! PS: I came here originally for interiors content, but I do enjoy the diversified content as well!

Absolutely love house shopping so looking forward to more. Your honesty regarding value is a breath of fresh air. We all like to know what your current house cost you, how much was your renovation and of course how much is it worth now?
I bought , did up and sold for profit 6 houses in 10 years to achieve my goal of paying off my mortgage by the age of forty. I achieved this goal with in 2 weeks of hitting my fortieth birthday. Mine were mainly probate bungalows in a Regency town on the Devon coast so a long way off the London bubble. The most interesting one was a house 1910 bought for £89,000 in 1997 and sold for £175,000 five years later . I spent very little on it , a new modest kitchen approx £3000 but decorated it well. So bring it on ! Costs ideas and viewings please and just delete the nasty jealous comments.

Two years ago my best friend wrote to say that she had just bought a flat in Portobello/Goldborne so I supposed something small and not fantastic. Turns out it is a three bedroom, living room dining room, real wood floors, second floor of a three floor brick building opposite a lovely church and near a park and canal. LOVELY ! Overlooking tree on both sides, near everything and for 850K pounds ! I asked HOW on earth and she said that her son just googled 'flats for sale Portobello' and it came up, she went to visit, put in an offer (cash buyer) and they accepted at once. I mean in what world does that happen!

Fellow mesophonia sufferer here. Eating noises, specifically MOIST eating and swallowing noises... argggh! My other one is "audio cues" on videos. ie fake typing noises to indicate a quote from someone is being read out, or a "swoosh" noise as a new graphic comes up on the screen. So infantilising! "Hey, thicko viewer! We know you have the attention span of a gnat, so here's an irritating noise to keep you on track!". Great content guys, I love seeing your thought processes and how you relate to each other. Plus one for full disclosure of the house prices, it makes it so much more interesting.

Here in Ontario Canada, house prices are through the roof! Easily1.4 million and goes up from there for a home anywhere close to Toronto. My husband and I bought 7 year's ago , we couldn't afford our house now ,our neighbors sold their home in July for 2.6M 😮
Good luck looking, it's fun to see what's out there and l agree with you to take your time and be fussy about the neighborhood, you can renovate your house but you can't change your neighbor's😊

I’ve just fell in love with your home, it’s decorated so tastefully 👌. Please don’t be offended by people remarking on your price range, firstly you live in London. Secondly there is always someone who has a higher budget than yourselves. I can’t afford your home, but instead of being envious I admire how you’ve transformed the rooms (guest bedroom amazing) 🎄🎄🎄

I came across your vlogs by accident, I absolutely love them.Firstly I'm a Scot and lived in Highgate of years, I feel Chad's irritation at times with London, I think we can have this love hate relationship with it in away . Yes, it is a bubble. As I think Chad poited out, you have the oligarchs buying for investment, which can push the normal guys out! I like that your vlogs are most informative, but with a very chilled feel to them, the chatting really works, so many vlogs tend to be overly perfect and contrived, which isn't real living. I think you have just the right balance.

    • @manmasher
      @manmasher 5 годин тому

Stamp tax is essentially a sales tax on the home purchase price. During the last Tory government there was a stamp tax holiday to spur the economy and the guys wisely took advantage. Australia also has stamp tax and in Canada the GST (goods and service tax) applies to real estate purchases.

The garden is amazing and the area looks nice. Put in your offer even if you think it will not be accepted. Only if you are interested though!!

More wine chats, please. You're wonderful conversationalists, and you include your audience quite naturally and expertly. Angel is my favourite area of Islington, and of London. As a new transplant to the area, you're great company for me. I hope you enjoy your leadup to Christmas and the search for your new home.
