I’m 32, I’ve had cats my whole life, I’ve never tried training them beyond behavioral and to come when called. We got a kitten 9 days ago and I looked up training and found your videos. 9 days and she’s learned sit, spin and high five. 9 DAYS! I think she’s about 5 months old and she’s picking up the clicker training beautifully. Thank you so much! This has been such a fun way to bond and I get to show all my friends now lol. I was trying “sit” at first but was having difficulty. After I taught her to follow my finger when pointing at the ground with a treat in my fingers she started picking up the other commands a lot more smoothly. We feed her on a schedule (morning, after work and before bed) and I do 2-3, 5-10 minute training sessions a day.
The cat I watch these videos for died last year, but I still love these videos because they’re super entertaining, they work, (…and I think you’re accent’s cool.) You deserve all the love in the world and I hope you and Mia have more wonderful journeys together soon!
Just wanted to say I love your videos, thank you so much for the effort putting all these great training lessons and tips out for us. So greatly appreciated. Adopted my first cat, he is 3 years old and I can't wait to provide them a great and fun life!
Thank you so much for the videos and helpful advices! Coco (my baby cat) and me enjoy them very much :) He really likes clicker training, and he starts purring as a tractor as soon as he sees a clicker in my hand! Thanks to your videos we learned the finger following and the sit command :) The one thing I don't really understand, and I haven't find people discussing it, he doesn't react to commands if there is no clicker in my hand, even though as soon as he sees the clicker he does everything absolutely perfectly...
I really wanted to add this as the 6th mistake but it would have turned out to be too long of a video... Cats react to the tricks because there's an expectation of a reward. If there's no click, there's no reward, there's no behavior. You need to create the expectation of a reward without the clicker. Try to find a word or a cue you can use "GOOD" or "YES" and incorporate that to your trainings. Then, even outside training sessions, reward every now and then after they respond to a command. That's called intermitent reinforcement and it's the strongest reinforcer you can offer (think of casinos). Hope this helps!
Thank you so much you help me a lot. I’m training my cat to be a pro like yours, so thank you for the time and dedication for those videos. Keep it up.
Good detailed knowledge and well produced as well. My 14 weeks old girl moved home yesterday and are quite an observant explorer. We play, eat and cuddle while resting to bond but I want to train with her
Very helpful video! I love all your content - I never had a cat before and didn't know they were so easy to train before I found your channel. My kitten knows follow the finger, come here and sit now. I'm teaching her Stay but she keeps getting distracted. We will get there!
I'm a new cat mom (just got my kitty on Halloween) before getting her and even now ive been watching all your videos and I'm excited to with with my kitty Eve on training. Thank you for such great videos.
I have taught my cat a few tricks with temptation treats. She will do anything for them.I have to break them up in pieces.Might try her on the dried chicken you use instead. Cat remind me of how autistic people are and very easily distracted so in order to keep my cat’s attention I do short training sessions and will snap my fingers to get her attention back to what we are doing.I’m going to try and teach her more of the tricks you are teaching. You are very good with Mia.She is very lucky to get a great owner like you.
Hey Albert. Love your videos and love Mia ❤️🔥 I have a sacred cat of Burma and I was wondering if I should trim his hair on his paws? I’ve seen people do that and I don’t know if I should 🤔 Also I wonder if the training would work with someone other than me?
Cats use the hair on their paws to feel things around them (like whiskers do). If you trim it, you don't let them use them as such. I would not do it. Different people can train the same cat, but it will take a little longer for the cat to understand.
Hello Albert and Mia, Your videos are great ! It was very very nice if the videos could be traduce in French (automatic subtitles, not manually subtitles). Because this command isn't available 😢
Hi Albert i have a stray cat who’s been with me for 2 years I’ve been wanting to teach some cool stuff I’ve thought him how to sit and wait for his food
I really appreciate your approach!!! I am a new cat owner. Can you make a video for new owners and the essentials. Like how to live peacefully with other small creatures they would love to hunt.
I've discovered your videos 1 month after I've adopted my 10 month old kitty, thank you for your content, I've learned a ton already. I've been harness and leash training her with treats. Now that I watched your videos I want to start introducing kibble as reward but of course she's getting pissed when I click and she realizes it's kibble instead of her favourite treat (which is lickable creamy treat, I give one per day during training only). I've just put her on a feeding schedule so hopefully she will make her crave kibble but my worry is her dissasociating the clicker sound from the reward if she doesnt get the reward she expects during the transition period, and ruin weeks of progress :(
Kibble is extra tasty, it has the same stuff as dry treats, just in smaller quantities. If your cat doesn't have the kibble always available, it should be enough!
HAHAHAHA I knowww! I have to play a different sound when I do this things... next video I'll change the sound of the click for a sheep bleating. And when you hear it, you should know it was you. :p
Hey Albert! Thank you so much for all the information you share. I’m currently feeding my cats 3 times a day with raw food, but I always leave a bowl with dry food available for them to eat anytime they want. Do you do the same with Mia or she only gets food on those 3 times a day? Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! This video couldn't have come at a better time for me! Anyway…I don’t know if i had understood it properly : Do I need to start The training sesiones rewarding my cat for not reason whatsoever?! And if so, when do I start rewarding for a possitive behaviour? (4 months old cat). Thanks Albert & Mía! Great treats BTW!!!😂👌👍
You're very welcome! It's not a matter of rewarding generously, it's giving 4-5 treats to remind your cat that clicker session is on and that after a click comes a reward! As your cat grows older and more comfortable, you can stop doing it.
I just bought a clicker I'm excited. I have watched many videos about clicker training. My cat is 4 years old and she was interested in the clicker . My question is do I have to charge the clicker with her every time I want to train ? How long each day and everytime I train and do tricks do I have to charge each time. I see the videos of how to use the clicker but is it everytime you train ??? Please help .
Hi! I'm struggling to clicker train my kitten (4 months old). He's not food motivated, but has been more interested since switching to freeze dried chicken. I feel like he's smart and trainable, he learned the sit command in two sessions, but I haven't been able to teach him anything since. My problem is that he won't look at me or my hand. I'm trying to teach him to high five right now, but 9 times out of 10 he won't look at my hand, just at the floor and go searching for treats. On the other hand, if i do get him to look, he will high five 9 times out of 10, so I feel like he does understand what I want? It's been very frustrating so far, and then I feel bad for getting frustrated. I feel like I'm doing something wrong, but I'm unsure how to correct it. I've been trying to have him on a chair during training, it's been helping a little but not much. I usually traing him, have a oly session and then feed him. Is his attention span too short because he's still a kitten? Should I do dome training sessions rewarding him for simply looking at me? Should I play first, then train and feed?Should I train a little earlier, maybe an hour before meal time? Some input would be greatly appreciated. He enjoys training, starts purring and kneading almost immediately, but I feel like a bad teacher and pet parent :(
Trying to train my half year old cat since a week now but it seems like he completely ignores the clicker. not possible to ''charge'' the clicker he's only walking around looking for treats and doesnt react to the sound.. any advice? My 4 year old cat learned it pretty fast and also tricks like sit and high five. but I just cant charge the clicker on the little one...
Albert thank you for your videos... which I am just starting to watch. They seem very entertaining, fun and very educational... so I look forward to learning. I do have a question ... can you do click training when you have more than one cat. I'm about to adopt 2 kittens... so I just wanted to know. Thanks.
There are a couple things you can do if you want to train your kittens together: 1) Use a different clicker sound (so that they don't confuse their "click" with their siblings) 2) Teach them different tricks (so they don't both do the trick at the same time) The other alternative, is locking one cat at a time. You can lock yourself with the cat you are training instead of the cat that it's not trained. That makes the experience for the cat that's alone nicer.
@@OutdoorBengal thanks so much for the advice... I will give it a try after I get them settled into their new surroundings. I'm sure I will be asking you more things in the future... but I have watch more of your videos first, haha.. Thanks again.
Hi Albert and Mia, I’ve just tried our first clicker session and was wondering how to do it with 2 cats as it got a bit confusing with when to click if one gets it but the other doesn’t. Thanks!

Hi! Is it possible to clicker train an older cat? I am going to adopt a older cat, 4 years old and I want to train him. Also is it possible to correct certain behaviours through training?
Having a hard time finding a treat he likes. So far he only goes for the wet snack sticks. I buy him toys, he plays with empty Amazon boxes, I buy him a suede bed. He sprawls out in my pillow. I end up talking and negotiating with a kitten. I believe they call this Mid-life crisis

hi, I’m hoping that someone would be able to help me here. I don’t free feed my cat, but she was free fed by the foster I picked her up from. I feed her once in the morning and once at night with wet food, but she never finishes the full portion.( I’ve tried about seven different brands ofdry foods and six different brands of wet food). if I feed her any less, I feel as though I would be starving her, are there any tricks for this? Right now I use wet for Churu for training.
Thanks for the videos! I have a question, after a cat is trained on certain behavior, does it only work with clicker and treat? Or will they do the behavior when i say even without clicker or treat?
Cats react to our commands because there's an expectation of a treat. If you never reward a behavior outside a training session, the expectation of a treat outside the training session is non-existant and thus, there's no motivation to comply. My recommendation is to reward intermitently outside sessions. Not always, but sometimes. This will increase the expectation. Intermitent reinforcement is a very strong motivator (think about gambling and casinos) hope this helps!
Do you think that it’s possible to clicker train three different cats in the same room ? At the same time or should I separate them and train one at a time
She did like it! Super easy recipe: Cut chicken in thin stripes. Bake slowly until dry (to make it last longer in the fridge) and then cut super small! Cheapest treats ever!
Right? It's all just very basic level manipulation techniques. No rocket science. Thanks for this idea though, I completely forgot about clicker training. Gonna try it asap :3
My cat is very reluctant to climb or jump, even though I’ve gotten her to scratch on her scratching post with treats. How can I get her over whatever fear she has of jumping?
Hi John, some cats are more jumpy than others same with climbing. Do you trim their nails? Having sharp nails encourages them to go up as it gives them security. Also, try to use playtime and feeding time to encourage the behavior if that's something you would like to get them do more often. :)
@@OutdoorBengal Thank you for the answer! I trim her nails once in a while, and it’s clear she hates not having razor sharp nails to tear up all the furniture! 😂 I’m definitely trying to have her climb for treats during play
@@JohnNathanShopper I always give my cats something they can tear up that sits near the entry door or in the living room. Usually it's a small rug. Some cats prefer a vertical item like a roll of paper towels on a holder on the floor, or a piece of fabric pinned to the sofa. The key is it has to show claw marks/destruction because that's how cats mark territory (besides cheek rubbing and peeing, and we don't want peeing). They leave my furniture alone even though they have sharp claws.
I am a little biased, but I'd recommend you to get our clicker! amzn.to/4789puN However, if you just need a clicker to test the waters, any clicker will do!
Hi Albert, I really liked your channel, and I decided to get a bengal cat myself after having watched some of your video adventures with Mia. My bengal is a boy, and he is 5-month old now. I have managed to teach him some commands, like touch (with the nose), sit, high-five and more recently I am working on handshake. But one thing I have been pretty unsuccessful is teaching him to stay. It shocks me to see Mia so calm when you’re making her food, because my boy is very pushy, and I am not sure if that is his personality, or if I am failing to train him. For example, when I am bringing the food to him, he tends to be very vocal and continues to loudly meow until he gets it. He will still follow commands, but stay has been difficult. With the clicker, I try to ask him to sit, then reward him for doing nothing for a few seconds while saying stay, but that does not seem to be working. Any tips?
Thanks for the thorough comment. You are doing it right. What you can try is to teach NO and when they move after a stay, use NO to correct it. Hope that helps!
How long dose it take them to forget the training.....and will commanding too much after she successfully learned trick Make them not interested doing it?
If tone, form and tricks are different, absolutely. On the flipside, as they learn to react to different people, their training skills improve even faster!
It happens! Yes, there are many good alternatives! A word cue like "YES" or "GOOD" work well. Also snapping fingers it's an option. The only call out is that you have to be consistent with the noise, regardless of what it is, or the sound will be meaningless!
There are a couple things you can do if you want to train your kittens together: 1) Use a different clicker sound (so that they don't confuse their "click" with their siblings) 2) Teach them different tricks (so they don't both do the trick at the same time) The other alternative, is locking one cat at a time. my cat will usually get what i want her to do with clicker training, but then i have a hard time getting her to associate it with some sort of queue from me (she’ll just come up and repeatedly offer the behavior over and over again whether I ask or not). any advice? also she ran over when she heard the clicker in your video!
@@OutdoorBengal she reliably comes when called, but im still working on sit with her. the issue is that if i start clicker training, she’ll half stand up and immediately sit back down to try to get another treat from me. if that doesn’t work, she’ll get up and sit back down again. so when i’m asking her to do it, i don’t know if she truly gets that im specifically signaling or if she’s just still repeating the behavior.
I have no idea, bro! You need to understand first why she does that, then correct it and offer and alternative. I can't help if I don't know what your cat is looking for.

I have a question, can someone help me? my male cat is 9 months old and now all he does is cry all night and day because I just introduced him to raw ground beef as a treat, and after he tasted it all he does is cry for it all day long. He wants me to fallow him from my room to the kitchen and starts crying in front of the fridge. Sometimes he goes by himself to the kitchen and keeps crying and peaks at my room so I know he is meowing at me. This behavior started 4 days ago and it wont go away. He doesn't want to eat his regular food he just takes a bite of it when he is really hungry. Yes he is a spoiled cat. Please help me, I feel bad for him and for my ears. Please someone help us.😱
It's not what you want to hear but you set the rules. If you don't want to give him beef all the time, don't do it. If when he is crying you "obey" you are training your cat to keep on meowing. Let him meow and ignore him and he'll learn that meowing doesn't give him what he wants. I would introduce play sessions where you offer the treats, and only offer the treats during those sessions. Hope this helps!

she’s under eating and i’ve gone to two vets and they say she’s fine but she will meow for churu or whipped cream
Hey man m, amazing videos, could you tell us which treats you use ? The link does not take me anywhere
Thanks for the heads up!! I use this ones these days! amzn.to/44xSnW5
Hey! What is the best treat to train with? I pressed your link but it did not take me to the treats
Hello! Take a look at this article! I talk about this in depth: www.outdoorbengal.com/blogs/clicker-training-cats/best-cat-treats
thanks bro
Welcome! Happy to help!
Do you think that it’s possible to clicker train three different cats in the same room ? At the same time or should I separate them and train one at a time
I have a question.I free feed my cat so can I try clicker training?
Thanks Albert & Mia! Did she like the diy chicken treats? If so what was your recipe?
She did like it! Super easy recipe: Cut chicken in thin stripes. Bake slowly until dry (to make it last longer in the fridge) and then cut super small! Cheapest treats ever!
@@OutdoorBengal thank you friend. I will use the dehydrator and give it a try.
@@Disabled_Combat.Android Wow! let me know how that goes! Might have to get one!
@@galamander_1327 Absolute yes. Kitty loves the flat scratchers.
Where could I get a clicker for my 2 11/12 week old kittens?
I am a little biased, but I'd recommend you to get our clicker! amzn.to/4789puN
However, if you just need a clicker to test the waters, any clicker will do!
“Just STOP!”
My kitty: “Oh I like this man!”
hahahahaha did you play after? :p
@@OutdoorBengal Yes we did! And he took a nap after 🥰
What do you mean by “charging” a clicker?
How long dose it take them to forget the training.....and will commanding too much after she successfully learned trick
Make them not interested doing it?
Particularly at the beginning, IT'S FAST! You need to keep reinforcing it!
Will having multiple trainers or cat guardians slow the process
If tone, form and tricks are different, absolutely. On the flipside, as they learn to react to different people, their training skills improve even faster!
Any tips for an alternate to the clicker? My cat is so scared of any sudden noises that she hides for 15 minutes or more after any sudden noise.
It happens! Yes, there are many good alternatives! A word cue like "YES" or "GOOD" work well. Also snapping fingers it's an option.
The only call out is that you have to be consistent with the noise, regardless of what it is, or the sound will be meaningless!
How do I train 2 cats? One is always trying to get all the treats while the other one is mostly waiting in the backgound... sometimes even going away.
There are a couple things you can do if you want to train your kittens together:
1) Use a different clicker sound (so that they don't confuse their "click" with their siblings)
2) Teach them different tricks (so they don't both do the trick at the same time)
The other alternative, is locking one cat at a time. You can lock yourself with the cat you are training instead of the cat that it's not trained. That makes the experience for the cat that's alone nicer.
my cat will usually get what i want her to do with clicker training, but then i have a hard time getting her to associate it with some sort of queue from me (she’ll just come up and repeatedly offer the behavior over and over again whether I ask or not). any advice? also she ran over when she heard the clicker in your video!
This means that your clicker is "charged". can you put an example of the behavior that you want to get and what are you doing to get it?
@@OutdoorBengal she reliably comes when called, but im still working on sit with her. the issue is that if i start clicker training, she’ll half stand up and immediately sit back down to try to get another treat from me. if that doesn’t work, she’ll get up and sit back down again. so when i’m asking her to do it, i don’t know if she truly gets that im specifically signaling or if she’s just still repeating the behavior.
My cat desperately searches for something around the whole house......and tries to run away if she sees a little chance......what to do??
I have no idea, bro! You need to understand first why she does that, then correct it and offer and alternative. I can't help if I don't know what your cat is looking for.
So my cat seems to be listening to me when I’m training him, but he doesn’t listen to me when we are not training. Any advice?
Cats react to our commands because there's an expectation of a treat. If you never reward a behavior outside a training session, the expectation of a treat outside the training session is non-existant and thus, there's no motivation to comply.
My recommendation is to reward intermitently outside sessions. Not always, but sometimes. This will increase the expectation. Intermitent reinforcement is a very strong motivator (think about gambling and casinos) hope this helps!

Hello!
my cat is deaf, will clicker training still work for him?
It does work! But don’t use a sound clicker, use a small light instead!
@@OutdoorBengal great idea thanks so much!!
💛
Thanks!
@@OutdoorBengal yea, I will just try to endure his crying and play with him more often. Thanks for your advise, I really appreciate your help.
What is the best time to train a cat ?
Between meals is the best! They are hungry but not anxious!
My kitty is just responding while I am providing treats, with no treats he is not responding
Which treats can I cook to train my cat without over feed it and generate obesity?
I feed her raw treats, my cat Mia likes freezed dried chicken a lot, they are 100% chicken and low in calories: amzn.to/3tjrVT9
Also, I learned that when a cat is not food-motivated, it's very easy to narrow down why! I wrote a short article to help you find out:
www.outdoorbengal.com/blogs/clicker-training-cats/my-cat-doesnt-like-treats-train-a-cat-thats-not-food-motivated
My cat will do the trick only when he want food. When he full he only do nothing
how to recharge the clicker wtf??
hahaha click and reward, click and reward!
Feed your cat raw mate! You can't imahine how much beneficial it is
Thanks for the tip! I am feeding her Raw! That video is a little old, but it served the purpose of showing the routine of how I feed Mia.
I even made a video talking about why I switched to Raw --> ua-cam.com/video/gY-xteti0iI/v-deo.html
Did Mia like the chicken u made?
My cat is literally the dumbest animal I’ve ever had lol. Love him more than anything, but there’s not a thought behind those eyes 😂. Clicker training him is useless
Wow, really? How long have you been trying for?
New cat training please please please please
I'm trying to pin down your accent... Spain?
Indeed! :)
