My cat travels with me everywhere. I try to take her with me in the car every few weeks even if it’s just a trip to get dinner in the drive through. Or get gas and drive through the car wash. I have lots of fluffy baby blankets that are hers and have her scent all over them. Also her scratching post comes with me because that is her center of play. She normally only uses her box two to three times a day. Usually after she has eaten. So on road trips it’s no big deal because I always feed her at 6 am anyway so she’s usually used the box long before I need to leave. Then feed her at 6pm which I should have arrived at my destination by then, even if it’s a multi day drive, I’ll be at a pet friendly hotel. I let her out to check out the space, feed her and she always finds her box. She digs to the bottom of her box so aluminum tins wouldn’t work for her but I carry cardboard boxes that cans or bottles of water come in. She likes cardboard. I carry a pour tub of litter with me. Put a pee pad under the box and keep a small whisk broom and dust pan to sweep up the stray litter. I bag up her pee balls and poop right away in little doggie doody bags. Then put them in a large trash bag. When I leave, I bag up the cardboard box as well. I keep her scoop in a ziplock with the handle poking out and mostly zipped so the handle doesn’t get cruddy. She has learned, by my camping two or three miles from home, to enjoy camping. At first I drove to the campsite and set up everything then went back and got her. Then dropped her home before I tore everything down. Now she patiently stays in her backpack while I set up the tent and she zooms right in as soon as it’s up. And dutifully gets in her backpack as I’m tearing everything down. I keep her carrier and backpack open at home and give her treats in there almost daily. Not all cats will travel well but she has learned. I got her at age 4 but she has learned to enjoy her harness walks and riding in her backpack and road-tripping in the car. And she is fed raw. Good for her very sensitive tummy and her litter box smell is almost nonexistent.
Your story is so inspiring! I’m about to adopt a rescue adult cat (little over a year old) as well and was wondering if it was possible to train the cat to travel with me slowly. I have hope now!
I'm hoping to get my cat into camping also. She enjoys her park walks on a leash, though lately it's been too cold for her, but I am looking forward to getting her used to camping this year. Hopefully she'll get used to her parka also so that I can take her back out for walks sooner!

@@limeandpeach well I have a freezer so my situation is a little different. I do a raw recipe similar to the one that the you tube channel paws of prey makes. The brand I and Love and You makes a decent canned food. And Fancy Feast isn’t horrible for a short term.
I brought my kitty home at 8 weeks, a 6 hour drive. It was great he just slept there with his toys, and watched me drive. Last April my mother and I drove out to Lake Country from Vancouver and took my cat with us; she rode in her kitty carrier, and I let her out to walk around the car every time we stopped, which was every hour or so. I have a travel litter box which I kept in the car with her regular litter in it, and she used that during one our breaks. She got a little antsy after the two hour mark in both directions, but additional attention was enough to keep her calm. At the hotel it took just a few minutes for her to settle in. She uses her kitty backpack as a den at home quite often anyway, so that was already familiar and I also brought her fleece blankie plus one of the fleece blankets that she likes to sleep on at home. Just like at home, she slept with me every night.

Hi Doppelschuh Brown. Jackson Galaxy, the cat behaviorist has some excellent products for cats. One in particular called Scaredy Cat is great. One of my client has a very sweet Tabby that is very jumpy when she hears loud noises and it takes her a bit to calm down. But after a few drops on her food she becomes her usual mellow self. 2 fluid ounces go for $27.95 on his website but a little goes a long way and without any weird side effects. 🌟👍🌟
@@narcissesfreeman2940 aww, thanks, I'll check that out. Funny enough I already watch his videos, (and love them) haven't seen the product yet, but I'll check it out. If that works, that'll be a lifesaver. Thanks
i have always have always left their carriers open with toys. it was their safe place. With Willow’s carrier it was always open on my bed because it was a safe place. it was left open my bed. My Birmans flew with me in the cabin in special carriers designed for that. They never wete in the cargo area. in fact i loved how when we were getting ready to disembark i I would pull out the carroer at my feet and open ot up to ask my check on my kitty and folks who may have complained were stunned. they never knew my kitty was there. Of course the flight crew knew and were angels bringing me ice cubes for my kitty. Ironically one flight i was seated next to a 49’er football player. he figured out my special carrier had a kitty. (i discreetly check on them.). he was delighted when we landed and i brought out my kitten and he could cuddle him! The orher passengers were stunned! Tip: i chose seats in the back against the window. now one likes those seats so i often had all 3 seats AND i was next to the stewardesses station and they knew i was legally having a kitting in cabin with me. and would bring a small plastic bowl with icecubes for them. !
Thank you for your videos! So I’ve just got a cat called Elu, seems go to the loo only outside which is great for me. It’s been a week and all is going very smoothly. I travel a lot so I definitely want to get Elu use to the car and being out an about - a happy to be an explorer Im definitely going to be following all your tips and instructions and I feel we will smash it; my only question is I don’t want to have a litter try in my small van. And since he seem to not need a litter tray and only uses the outdoors, I’m hoping that this will continue whilst in the van. Any tips on how I can make sure this is the case?
Help! This video is such great advice for getting my cat carrier and car trained. I’m moving 9 hours away in a couple of months and my cat HATES the car. I’m also really concerned about getting her used to her new home without stressing her all the way out as well. Any tips for settling into a new place with my furry friend?
hie,i am a super fan of you and your cat.. i just had a question, why does my cat try to go out alone, like he is a male and is neutered and is with me since he was merely 6 days old, still whenever the gate is open,he tries to escape and then i have to go and grab him, he loves me when he is at home but just escaping whenever the door is open makes me feel bad...
There are a few ways to stop door dashing. Have you taught your cat to Sit and Stay? Check out this tutorial, it might help!! ua-cam.com/video/Bq0CDiAPFsI/v-deo.html
Hi! You mentioned there two types of cat personalities - timid and confident. Our question is - to what extent the timid cats are trainable? Is it possible to teach a timid and fearful cat to enjoy outdoors and car rides? We trained our cat, who is a 6-months old male American Bobtail, to love his carrier, to walk on a leash, however car rides and outdoors (on a leash) are tricky. The cat shakes in fear. So we question if we should proceed further with the training, and if it's possible to overcome this fearfulness, or such cat personalities are not trainable for car rides and outdoor activities.
My bengal has no problems with carrier, harness, leash, using the human toilet. He´s been so easy to train in everything, APART from the car ride. We´ve tried feliway, gapapentin, cbd. NOTHING helps, he screams like he´s being murdered non-stop, as long as the engine is on. The moment the engine goes off, he´s alright again. We´ve trained and trained and trained him, but to no avail. He HATES the car rides. Dunno what to do.
thank you for your videos. i wanna get a kitten soon but i want to make sure i'm fully ready to train my cat and get it used to different environments. i've never owned a cat before so these educational cat videos are making me feel more confident that i'll be able to give my cat a good, happy life.🩷
Can't wait to see n learn new tricks. I need ur help tho. My kitty does well in a car ride so long as she's out of the carrier. She hates being in tiny lil areas go figure!!! She likes sitting in smash boxes 🤔🤔😽🙀 anyways, I have a hard time getting her out of the house but she tries to dash out the door every so often (go figure) once she's in the car she rides sitting quietly on my lap or on a pillow behind my neck, but that's not safe ... can u please tell me how do I get her in a car seat carrier so she can be safe. I bought her a car carrier that's open on top n it straps with a seat belt but she refuses to get in it. She gets in it when she goes to the groomers or the vet but as soon as she's in the car n the door closes she's a horror if not let free. What do u recommend??? How can I rectify her attitude so she can be safe??? Getting her out of her harness is also a challenge getting the harness on is easy maybe cuz she knows that means exploring the park. My kitty is a contradiction please help me keep her safe n make the harness walking fun. I don't take her out as often as I would like cuz I don't want to stress either one of us with her bad cattitude. Not sure if her being a tortoiseshell has anything to do with it. Does it??? I'm a new cat mom all I know about cats is from Google, ur vids, n Jackson galaxy. Thank you in advance. My cat n I thank you for teaching me what little I know about cats. We appreciate u. Hi Mia hope someday my girl becomes a little like u. Ur lucky to have a great cat dad n ur adorable 💓 💗 💕
Hello! Looks like your cat doesn't like the carrier mostly. Try to get her explore the carrier on a daily bases. Leave it out and put food and toys inside, so that she gets inside on her own. You will see that once your cat normalizes the carrier, she is going to be better at staying inside it.
@@OutdoorBengal thank you so much for taking the time to pass on ur wisdom and enrich kitties every where. I appreciate u n ur advice. I will start working on that today. Ur fantastic n I'm glad Mia is a part of ur world cuz those furry lil beast have a way of making life a lot brighter.
I've tried to take my cats in the car weekly since they were kittens but one of them always throws up on the ride now. She is the more anxious of the two and still doesn't like the car but I can't give her food or treats before or during the trip as I'm scared she will throw up.
My recommendation is that you try to do your best to keep them relaxed. Try placing the carrier on your lap and going for very short rides first. Getting your cat to enter the carrier on their own and to link it with something positive will also help you achieve it. Good luck
That's such a great question. That means that they need more acclimatation, be nice and accomodating and if possible, cut the trip short and try again another time. Also, check higher quality treats amzn.to/401PVGx
Albert what do you think about The cat backpack (en plan cápsula espacial)?? I’ve been reading very good reviews, and some others not than encouraging…I was thinking about Buying it to be able to carry Emma short distances: The vet, The park 5’ from home…(she was doing great but now she seems to get really sacred with cars an motorcycles) 😔
Avout to travel +5 hrs by train and i've been thinking of taking my cat with me to the place I need to be, but i don't wanna stress my kitty too much. I guess she would be fine 3 days alone but definitely no more than that. So that's why
@@OutdoorBengal i'm not leaving her that long for often, three days is the absolute maxinal i'm willing to leave her. Making sure she has enough food, water and just before leaving I clean her litterbox. I don't have anyome to take care for her in here so thatvs other reason why I wan't to try and teach her to travel with me.. I'm just anxious if she gets stressed
Where I live you can take your cat to a boarding place and get them used to that so when you leave, they are in a familiar place for awhile. It's less stressful when you collect them later.
I tend to give the same to my cat every meal. Are you thinking about giving your cat something different in the morning? What do you intend to achieve by doing so?
Let me get this straight. You train the cat to expect a treat when he hears the clicker, so he'll start to come to wherever you click. He gets in the bag, you zip it up to take him to the vet, & you betray him like that? I would never forgive you. I enjoy your accent!!
hahaha the whole experience is traumatic and desensitizing your cat about the harness and about new people, car rides... and if most of the experience is not stressful, the few minutes inside the clinic won´t be as bad... but love your thought process xD
Two tips, use higher value treats and help acclimate them before you go on a trip. How to help them be comfortable, get them on the car and let them roam before moving, until they leave the carrier on their own and get comfortable.
don't date a person that doesn't like cats - that is golden advice right there 😄 i guess it's like trying to raise a child with someone who doesn't like children?
Have you ever had to take your cat on very long flights? I wonder what the strategy is in this case, if you’re stuck on the airplane for 10 hours or so…? Specifically when it comes to their bathroom needs.

Absolutely. To do that, we are going to use positive reinforcement. - You need to find a strong reinforcer that is rewarding to your wife. - We will start taking the cat to places that she's okay with, like to the balcony or to the front door. - When your wife doesn't complain, click and reward. - Little by little, build towards more challenging outings, like to the grocery store or a romantic dinner. - Continue clicking and rewarding your wife. - Before you know it, your wife you, and your cat will be living a happy life, going all together wherever you go. Tip: Some wifes like flowers, but most will do just fine with a Target gift card.

Thanks
My cat is now 7 is it to late to start training her??
(mostly talking abt harness training)
Any cat, regardless of age or breed can learn!
i have always have always left their carriers open with toys. it was their safe place.
Tip: i chose seats in the back
against the window. now one likes those seats so i often had all 3 seats AND i was next to the stewardesses station and they knew i was legally having a kitting in cabin with me. and would bring a small plastic bowl with icecubes for them. !
Thank you for your videos! So I’ve just got a cat called Elu, seems go to the loo only outside which is great for me. It’s been a week and all is going very smoothly. I travel a lot so I definitely want to get Elu use to the car and being out an about - a happy to be an explorer
Im definitely going to be following all your tips and instructions and I feel we will smash it; my only question is I don’t want to have a litter try in my small van.
Any problem with a bengal at NYC airport? I am travelling soon and from my understanding they aren't allowed
Hey! The right answer is, you should follow what the airport says.
I will also tell you off the record that I've never had a problem.
AMAZING! thanks for sharing

Thanks man
You're welcome! happy to help!
hie,i am a super fan of you and your cat..
i just had a question, why does my cat try to go out alone, like he is a male and is neutered and is with me since he was merely 6 days old, still whenever the gate is open,he tries to escape and then i have to go and grab him, he loves me when he is at home but just escaping whenever the door is open makes me feel bad...
Do you allow your cat to go in the garden or outside or is he at home all day
no,most of the time he is at home
There are a few ways to stop door dashing. Have you taught your cat to Sit and Stay? Check out this tutorial, it might help!! ua-cam.com/video/Bq0CDiAPFsI/v-deo.html
yes i have trained him by your videos, but still he wants to go out ,he is always curious and i am afraid i might loose him someday
Is it best to train them as a kitten or can adults learn too?
Good luck
@@OutdoorBengal thank you! I'll give it a go
There is a very good article "How to Travel with a Cat" and I think it would be useful for cats' lovers.

I LOVE at the end when you said never date a person who doesn't like cats! Especially your pets. 💯 Agree 👍 Love your videos!
It´s a basic!!! haha pets are family!
I wish my cat went on a walk with me on a harness but my mum saud it was weird to put a harness on a cat😢😢😅😅
Things change, it was weird because no one did it, not because it's not possible.
I try my cat walking outside and he is just scared and he start to shake by fear plzz give tips
What if your cat doesn't eat the treats your trying to reward them bc they are still scared?
That's such a great question. That means that they need more acclimatation, be nice and accomodating and if possible, cut the trip short and try again another time. Also, check higher quality treats amzn.to/401PVGx
Most unexpected reference to Plato’s Cave 🏆
hahaha I had to!!! :)
Hmmmmm... never tried them. You should teach Emma to ride on your shoulder!! Have you tried!?
Avout to travel +5 hrs by train and i've been thinking of taking my cat with me to the place I need to be, but i don't wanna stress my kitty too much. I guess she would be fine 3 days alone but definitely no more than that. So that's why
if you are leaving them behind for 3 days, make sure someone goes check out on them and play! :)
@@SuperMichelleDJ bringing her with me turned out to be an alright solution
Hello, i have 1 question.....
What can i give for breakfast to my cat
I tend to give the same to my cat every meal. Are you thinking about giving your cat something different in the morning? What do you intend to achieve by doing so?
I have a one year old cat, wish I could’ve trained her. She just comes eats the treat and run away
That process takes far too long you just want your cat in and out of the clinic as quick as possible. None of the other mucking around thank you.
My cat just ignore the rewards when he is unconfertbel and insecure..not sure how to solve this 😅
Two tips, use higher value treats and help acclimate them before you go on a trip. How to help them be comfortable, get them on the car and let them roam before moving, until they leave the carrier on their own and get comfortable.
don't date a person that doesn't like cats - that is golden advice right there 😄 i guess it's like trying to raise a child with someone who doesn't like children?
Having raised kids and now a cat, I feel like there's little difference - kids just grow and leave
Soo much hard work, but rewarding indeed! Sorry about the breakup!
There's so much you can do... but even just some of it will make a difference. Take what you can, leave the rest! :)
Have you ever had to take your cat on very long flights? I wonder what the strategy is in this case, if you’re stuck on the airplane for 10 hours or so…?
Specifically when it comes to their bathroom needs.
Hello! There's a lot to consider but I made a post about it that you might find useful!

Is Mia afraid of dogs? What do you do when you encounter dogs while out and about?
Mia is scared of dogs, yes! Whenever we find one, she jumps on my shoulder. My shoulder has become her safe space. I have a tutorial to teach your cat to jump on your shoulder on command! Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/W5GSrT-bEGk/v-deo.html
My cat is fine in our car but as soon as I use somebody else's car for a trip like a taxi she gets super anxious no matter what.
How can anyone not like cats!!! Must be something wrong with them.
Probably it was a deeper problem than the cat, I agree. Never got to learn what was it.
I had told u that her name was also mia
Take it easy...
Can we convince my wife to let me take our kitten everywhere I go?
I would never date someone that doesn’t like cats. It would be a waste of time. Lol
That's the tale of the story haha
Don't like cats there's a door 🚪 let it hit your @$$ when you walk out. Lol
My cat died last week
I'm so sorry to hear this... lots of love to you and those who cared about her...
