- Moving house soon and packing up? Or recently moved into your new home in the UK? Here are 10 tips & tricks to get you sorted, save you time, hassle and money when you arrive in your new home! These hacks are for both renting and buying a home. Please share any new home tips other tips in the comments below! I've written out a checklist here too so you can copy and paste them onto your phone! Please give the video a thumbs up if you use them :)

NEW HOME CHECKLIST - WEEK 1
1) Cut a spare set of keys & leave them with a friend.
2) Check you have a Smoke Detector & Carbon Monoxide Detector in place and working - and ensure you have had a recent gas safety inspection. Contact your local fire service to see if they offer a safety inspection.
3) Organise Contents Insurance if you feel you need it, and Buildings Insurance if you are a homeowner.
4) Take Photographs of every room to help with deposit disputes & for your own memories.
5) Scan or Photograph any important documents and email them to yourself.
6) Write down the date you moved in and keep a record of it somewhere you can find it in years to come.
7) Mention any problems to your landlord or leaseholder rather than waiting.
8) Introduce yourself to your neighbours.
9) Locate your Stop Cock & Fuse Box
10) Remember to celebrate your new home & Explore your
surrounding area!

I’m 22 and from Yorkshire, very proud to say I’ve bought my first home! I’ve saved all my own money to buy it without any help :) thank you for these tips, they really have helped.
I’m an estate agent but, only just brought my own home. Should be moved in within 3months.
The constant thing we get asked by first time buyers is a list of things to buy everyone forgets like tin openers, spare light bulbs etc .... I think many would benefit from a similar video

Another tip would be if your viewing house, and you really like it, very quickly measure everything daft ... the letting agent might have a floor plan but they won't have daft stuff like 'fridge spot', 'bed spot', 'sofa space' ... like measure out where stuff would go ... that way if you have a couple of weeks before your move in date you can go buy plenty of stuff ready to move in

First few things I would do (not in any particular order) is remove the For Sale / Sold sign and place it somewhere visible for estate agent to pick up. Then, would tidy up at front of the house like cut the hedge or tidy up the front garden. I would then take the meter readings. If you have time, it might be an idea to have a checklist of things you need to do before you move in (ie. get your post redirected, make sure wifi/internet is connected on the day you move in etc. Enjoyed your video ! Love the tips but bear in mind in a lot of UK rentals the contract prohibits spare keys being cut. So read your contract first! X
