Does anyone else hear parts of his other pieces within this? I can definitely say I heard bits and pieces of Southern Hymn and Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song!! :)
I was a saxophonist under the man who this song was written for. He was an unbelievable human being that was warm outside of his body. He introduced and inspired so much love. A great man. Held an community together and built an empire. We should have the upmost respect for people like him. Gorgeousness.
Played this in the Kentucky Allstate Concert Band. Such an amazing piece, nothing like being part of the band that plays it or listening live. Truly amazing work of art!👌
Fun fact: I played this piece at the annual Kansas State University's Concert Band Clinic in January 2020. Being apart of the piece live is already emotional and powerful in itself, but that performance became so much more when I learned that Kobe Bryant passed away hours before (on Euphonium). I held back tears the entire performance.
Even when playing this peice myself, the part with just the piano and percussion at about 6:14-6:38 really captivated me. Does anyone know of a peice that has the same impact as that?
If this wasn’t so long, I would ask my band director if we could play it. Since I’m still in high school, many of the students would be against such a long piece. A lot were against Shenandoah, sadly
That finger stretch in the beginning with the piano solo... how does one even? It's too awkward to play with two hands and I can barely span that far even with my gigantic hands
It was awkward!!! After awhile i just started playing the bottom note of each chord with my left hand. May not have been the right way, but it felt better for me.
Well the solo is supposed to be played with two hands. You can tell by the impossible arm stretches. The reason for why it isn't shown on both lines of the grand staff is probably of how the composer notation or how they write piano parts. Some write in this format: left hand=bass clef line/right hand= treble clef line which is usually TRADITIONAL, but sometimes you get piece that are written freely, like the piece above. And it does get a bit awkward on some of the chords, but hey, whatever flows Samuel R. Hazo's boat

Thank you! There's a very luscious shared sound with the horns. Mr. Campbell, my teacher, was an amazing gentleman.

Bassoon
Evan Schwepker I saw that performance, y'all were amazing.
i played trombone
I was there too in the trumpet section (hey matthew). I thought it was amazing, right up there with Esprit and Variants.

I was at that clinic too. I played Marimba for this song. Definitely the most beautiful song I have played

i cried
There should be a note for that cough in bar 1 LOL
The second movement is amazing!
the trumpet part at 7:48 is so damn beautiful, I love it
I know, it made me tear up
trumpet makes everything better :)
Very beautiful piece as always from Hazo. This one must require a lot of endurance to perform!

Daddy Tom ask them to play the first movement "The Stillness of Remembering"
My band played Arasbesque and Ride at MPA and we got a low score because of our oboe player's
@@derrickjeromeweaverjr.2404I wish I could say we had oboe *player* **s**
I'm actually learning this piece for for a concert in a couple weeks
I got to play this price at a week long band camp full of high schoolers
I want to play this song so much
My band played at Pacific Lutheran University and we played this song 👏🏽👏🏽
What instrument did you play?
+GameCuber3000 I play the flute 👌🏼
Hey Pacific Lutheran, always nice to see another Northwesterner. Go Dawgs, though!
**loud page turning during the quiet part**
Great work, though.

Exactly right.
Does anyone else hear hints of perspire majesty at parts?
perspire??? you mean perthshire? LOLL
the cough lmao
the first song is the same because that was the first movement of the show.
What instrument does Samuel Hazo play?
Jimmy Rollins - Maestro ♪ He's a percussionist.
Oh that figures, since most of his pieces have intense percussion lol
The glistening ruins it for me
the oboe player in this recording is WAYYYY to prominent
Kyler Keck if the player just backed off just a tiny bit during the ww softer sections it would have been great.
