Ah yes, the two only characters in the game
Yun Li
The only TOP TWO characters in the game.
People play with Ken and others. It's just that they play it safe
I can see why guys like Mike Ross hate the game.
@@Dynex658 competitive wise only yun, chun li and ken are the only options. The game is solid and probably the best ever, but let's be honest, if you want to win tournament you have to pick one of those
when 3rdstrike was announced for evo i was like "hell yea!" but after watching 95% yun mirrors i think im good watching 3rd strike events for a long time
Always been the problem with the game. It's one of the best ever, but it is in dire need of one more balance update. Take Chun and Yun out of it and the rest of the game is pretty balanced and way more fun. Ken is good but way fairer compared to the other two.
People overestimate 3rd Strike as much as they overestimate JPN FGC
Japan is the worst place to watch 3rd strike. Europe tourneys have far more character variety.
@@thegoldengunmanken is still head and shoulders above the other characters, p sure he's considered 2nd these days by many
if you remove only the 2 ken becomes the boring one since he has no real weakness, just no gimmicks either

The realization from the commentators, 1 minute in, that the Top 6 is going to be all mirrors lmao
One of the best fighting games ever and one of the worst to watch at the highest level.
nice summary
Lol 4 Yun and 2 Chun with Yun mirror in grand final. I love 3rd Strike and still reccomend it but now i'm glad people can see the true nature of this game. I expect top 6 EVO Vegas will be the same too lol.
This is going to be the absolute state of Third Strike at EVO too.
This is why I enjoy more mid level sf3 tournaments, there is more diversity in top 8, at least 2 other characters lol
38:18 Was insane and the pop off was hilarious
other dude walked off like a sad mom at maury
The Japanese reaction was amazing and the parry was sweet.
GET EM OUTTA HERE!
Is the audio/video not synced or is it just me?
it is
there's a big part of it early in the vod that is desynced but it syncs back up later.
It desyncs in two places.
people say 3rd strike is the greatest game of all time cause japanese 3s got variety, until its time to actually play the game for high stakes. top 6 is all chun/yun
Top 25 had like 9 Yuns and 11 Chuns
This happens in most fighting games, there are even low tier tournaments for some.
Yeah of course. There's 1,000,000 yen on the line. Why would you risk it trying to get a Necro highlight reel?
@@e-maestro No, most fighting games don’t have only 2 characters at top 6
bro decide to spell the truth
Oh! The thumbnail was literal.
And they wonder why the numbers aren't there.
They really should just Ban the two Characters in big Tournaments.
“why modern street fighter games are so unbalanced”
The old street fighter games:
Had great expectations for it but beyond disappointed after the tournament.
That matches are too technical so it’s extremely boring for the average players.
@@MoralesAlex805 "To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Third Strike. The game is extremely technical, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the combos will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Yun's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Genei Jin literature, for instance. The pros understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these combos, to realize that they're not just cool- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Third Strike truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the beauty in Chun Li's existencial catchphrase "Let's Go Justin", which itself is a cryptic reference to Evo Moment 37. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Daigo's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Chun Li tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.”

Yun and Chun are overcentralizing at top level but 3rd strike is still fun as hell to play. Id still encourage people to try it
Yeah that’s good but just don’t bring it back to Evo.
Boomer pros need to stay quiet about this game. No one wants to watch them play the Same character 25 times.
Also cope. Ken and Chun are the easiest characters to play, you'll see them at every level.
Here from Mike Ross interview by Justin Wong.
Fighting game commentating has come a long way. These guys did a great job.
Disappointing we didn't see more character diversity after 25 years. There are amazing Uriens, Denjin Ryus, Dudleys, Hugo's, Necros, Oros, even Qs, out there.
Why is RB's Urien not in this??
Cause Yin and Chun exist.
He’s aiight lol he’s not that good
cause chun and yun are just that much better and also they are playing for 1 mil yen
he was, he could have gotten farther, he missed some aegis combos and setups. Although i hear where you are coming from about the character diversity, as someone who has followed the game for over almost 20 years, this was an absolute joy to watch. Rikimaru was in peak form, BOSS was still amazing and added so much to his already stellar gameplay. There are plenty of other tournaments with more character variety at the highest level in japan, just look up some of the recent COOP CUP's and watch Tominaga makoto do crazy work.
All they need to do is ban the top 3 characters. Hell, Ken can probably stay. He's not nearly as annoying as Yun and Chun.
Yun vs Yun vs Yun vs Yun vs yun
When 3rd Strike was announced, I knew it was gonna be a top 6 with the same 3 characters. I was wrong. It was only 2 and this was an absolute snoozefest. It's also a travesty that Justin Wong wasn't commentating this top 6.
He's in Japan, so that may be why. The commentaries crew was in the US.
Would've been worse if he didn't compete
So far there's no english commentator at EVO Japan because they only used Japanese commentator. But Justin could commentate and also participate in 3rd Strike at EVO Vegas.
had to watch muted because the commentary was cancer- literally 2 of my least liked commentators on the mic plus 1 dude I'm not familiar with that barely said anything substantial .. I can only stand hearing 'uhh uhh uhhhh uhhh afjnbaw wOO crazy, that's going to hurt' at the beginning of every combo. seriously the worst type of commentary
So awesome this is goin on
My favorite UA-cam ❤My favorite 😍 ❤
Dang what they were talking about how you had to be at the tournaments to see this super high skill stuff... that sounds like the good times.
Wow so Rickimaru cameback as "Mutekigorira" now? I'm glad to see him back in action, one of the strongest Chun-Li players ever!
Mirror matches all the way thru? Nice competitive game huh
It's kind of inevitable when the game has been out this long. Yun/Chun/Ken has been the holy trinity of Third Strike for over 20 years.
like sf6 isn't full of lukes
@@user-pi3kd1gk2fno. A lot Chun Li was at evo.
@@user-pi3kd1gk2f but this is before sf6 you clowns always moving the goal post huh
It's proof of just how well documented the 3s is after 20+ years. There was a period the first couple of years where people thought Yun's best super was SA2 lol Or before the discovery SGGK and multitude of other option selects that inevitably made Chun the undisputed best character. Ken has always been good over the different 3s eras.
The old ass SF Anni guide that came out with the Anniversary collection back in 2004 is very outdated for both games! And South America is the only place that still plays HSF2!
Lets go SHO.
Yo, no way im watching a full tourney of just TWO characters n mirrors...
I've read the comments then watched the top 8 and I can confidently say that almost 90% of the comment section did not watch half of this top 6. This was amazing high level 3rd Strike and most of the people here are too blind to see it. Character Diversity does not always equal Entertainment. That being said it would have been cool to see a few Ken's/Makoto's, but even with that it doesn't take away from this game and how expressive the punish game and neutral is.
“Uhmm actually Chun and Yun are meta characters so you should already expect them to dominate”
Yeah, everyone already knows this. The point is this is boring to watch. No one is excited to watch mirrors of only 2 characters at top 6. Third Strike has been used numerous times as examples of “player expression”. This is true for most of the cast, but not at all for top level play. Spam Genei Jin as Yun, connect Super Art 2 as Chun. That’s it for both characters. Everyone has to play like this because it’s objectively the best option to use.
They activate Genei Jin on neutral because there’s literally no downside to it. They keep doing crouching kick to super because there’s no downside either. When you design characters with busted options then you eliminate player expression and forces everyone to play the same. The reason it’s more exciting to watch mid tiers is because they actually have weaknesses and need to find ways to work around them. Player expression needs limitations instead of “buffs over nerfs”.
I agree with this almost entirely but I’d say buffs over nerfs is still a good mentality to give more options to a characters kit. I’d just say don’t over buff a centralizing part to a character for example these two and their supers.
But yeah, absolutely no one likes watching Chun and yun walk at each other waiting for meter.
It's unfortunate to see games with interesting mechanics ruined by poor balancing
I honestly honestly hope this isn’t how 3rd Strike goes through tournaments
Zoomers in the comments don't remember the time of fighting games before balance patches
Ensure consumers love crap
Why would anyone want to go back to that time lmao. Broken unbalanced messes of games doesn't sound very enticing for boomers. If ur salty that people are complaining about this vid with only 2 characters from the game then maybe ask the devs for a balance patch lmao.

Is LI joe good at third strike? Never saw him play.
Capcom need to do something about chun and Yun. Just balanced those and we’re good
kuroda would definitely choose a low tier to give more animation
was hoping to see some Hugo or Urien...
34:51 DAMN HE COOKED
where all the 3S monster that use to roam the arcade? Kuroda?
Kuroda got in trouble for being a pdfile.
I didn’t know there was a character more busted then Chun
Jogando no jeito raiz, no arcade
siempre es un placer ver duelos epicos de third strike!
This just happened? I missed it.
Unless they implement a fun rule like “select random only”, then these retro tournaments are gonna be boring always. Or just make them exhibitions for fun. Everyone is so set to win the top prize, they’ll always choose the top tiers from 20-30 years ago. This is why “retro tourneys” for games like Super Turbo and MVC2 sound fun on paper. But then when you see the actual thing, it’s veterans using the same 2-3 top tiers. And it’s a boring experience for most viewers who aren’t really into the meta of these games.
Just ban the top characters. It's so easy. Force them to play with low tiers, it would be more entertaining and would display more skill. The matches would be much better to watch.
@@Pax_Mayn3yeah! I like that idea too. Sadly, all the pros and veterans will complain that it isn’t the true “experience”. And Evo will just let them pick anyone. Evo Vegas is gonna end up with Chun/Yun again. And any retro games like MVC2 and Super Turbo will be the same. No measures to prevent the top tiers from making the watching experience boring.
I forgot this.game only has 2 chcaracters.
:o
no way its only chun li and yun
Was Deshiken in this tournament?
Deshiken didn't participate.
Top 6 - Yun/Chun forever. ZzZzZz. Just ban these characters already, and let this game thrive with a more interesting meta.
Then the meta is going to become Makoto vs Urien
I love all the commentators but they reall, REALLY can't comment take SF3.
The home ports of alpha 3 are godlike, u just have to ignore custom combo ism
v-ism is nerfed in most of the home console ports actually
Yun Fighter Third Strike
There needs to be pokemon format to confine these two to overused
3S is amazing but they gotta ban Chun, Ken and Yun. It’s getting ridiculous.
Evo Japan is all business. No time for low tier bs 😂
I'll watch a thousand Yun mirrors if it means I never have to watch another match with JP
lmao what are you on about? The guy has been losing traction because people started figuring out the match up and he got a decent handful of nurfs ontop of that
Like in what world are from? Are we fallowing the same scene? God
I can live without seeing these 2 characters every match. That was surprisingly upsetting to not see any other character.
This is truly one of the commentaries of all time.
You red parried that?!! TURN IT OFF!!! LMAO
I understand this game is typically top 6, but I hate this univeral top 6 standard. eff you Sony
To summarize this. It’s just, Yun, Chun, Yun, Chun, Yun, Chun. No one else. Not even a Yang. 😴
Yun won!!!!🏆
These are some amazing sets even if a lot of them are top tier mirrors lol.
Ban Chun-li, Ken and Yun at Evo 2025.
Looka like the throwback games META's have been figured out huh
they have to add a rule to switch out characters. Only seeing Yun and Chun is a bit dull after a while
damn no Ken 🙃
LMAO at all these goofy commenters complaining about water being wet
I love 3rd Strike but I simply won't watch matches that are Yun-Yun mirrors, Chun-Chun mirrors, or Yun Vs. Chun.
1st Runner Up goes to Yun Li
2nd Runner Up goes to Yun Li
3rd Runner Up goes to Chun Li
Third strike is one of my favorite anime fighters
It's not an anime fighter bro
Where's Justin Wong?
Sooooooo.. Yun Fighter 3?
Neutral skips are bad old fighters didn't have them, the old fighter that barely had neutral.
I understand why there's so much hate towards the matchup of two characters being in top 6, but many games would go this way with consistent players of 20+ plus years.
And "consistency" is the key word here. Because people still play SF2 or SF4 time to time, but these guys haven't stopped playing SF3S since the game's release.
Even if you think the game is overrated, you can't deny that theres a huge number of people that rates this game as S+ tier, because to many people, this game just feels that good to play, despite the unbalances.
Bro no. What other game got 2 characters only in tourney?
What is blud on about? I'm glad that people are still playing and enjoying the game but this is just a travesty of game balance lmao
shame about the audio
There should be some character limit or everyone have to choose a random Character to make things more interesting
Seriously do not see the hype for this game. Why play a fighting game, where only two characters matter in tournament.
It's because for as much as the FGC brainwashed you
A fighting game quality isn't holy dictated by its competitive side
I would play alex
anyone else excited to see yang and Chun Li, and only yang and Chun-Li?
Remember the good old day we have Kokujin (Dudley), PinoAB7, sugiyama (Necro), RX (Urien), Hayao (Hugo), Kuroda, TM (Q), Haitani, Mimora, Tominaga (Makoto), Pierrot (Remy)...i prefer it when the game is so much popular and everyone trying to be different. Now we left with this mirror match because the stake is so high people just want to win and not having fun anymore.
Ah yes. Chun li vs yun. Extended edition. Best sf game to watch as a viewer. Never gets old
This is what a broken game looks like. But these fake purists continue to insist that it didn't need a balance update or character bans.
You guys need to understand is a tournament ofc people is going to pick meta stuff
that doesn't stop it from being boring af. I expected to see some cool characters and player expression: the stuff everyone was talking about with how 3S was.

kinda weird to not see jwong or daigo here.
Daigo only focuses on the latest SF game. He only plays retro titles for exhibitions and such. And Jwong has been shifting more towards content creation. Justin might pop up on the Evo Vegas tournament in July. Daigo is gonna keep trying SF6 and falling short again haha.
Third strike is the FGC's dedicated hobbyist perfect game, it just struggles competitively because of how bad the roster is balanced
