I just recently heard this while watching some sci-fi mini series believe it or not. I just lost my Mom like a month prior so I was still grieving pretty bad. Well my goodness I just sobbed and sobbed. It's so beautiful. And such a comfort. My Dad passed some years ago so I was feeling so lost after losing my Mom. Thank you so much for sharing. It's what I imagine was playing as both my parents' souls flew up to heaven!
We are so sorry for your loss... Thank you for sharing.
It is when has lost both parents that one truly feels like an orphan…no matter how many siblings or other family: truly on one’s own. The Lark helps…
@@richardr.palmer2929 omgosh I can't believe you posted this! It's exactly what I said when my Mom passed and it's how I feel now that both my parents are gone lost &......like an orphan 😢
@@wendyd_darling As it happens, (and here let me make a plug for PSYCHIATRY, from which I retired 5 years ago): as a psychiatrist who had done a goodly amount of psychotherapy for myself and with patients, I really paid attention to my own reactions and to folks' reactions to various losses: losing my parents (father when I was 29, mo when 46) really prompted that ORPHAN feeling. Did not have at all the same feeling when older sister died when I was 58....but it sure settled in on me that there was now no longer a shared history of experiences and *personal* history itself had shifted over to "like a dream??"
Anyway: that Lark keeps being carried higher by currents into invisibility in the sky
Hope you know Tallis/Fantasia, Serenade to Music[!!!] , the Symphonies....
What a beautiful comment. I am also deeply grieving my beloved mother's recent death and when in anguish this and similar pieces are a comfort. Bless you in your healing.
When I listen to the music of Vaughan Williams,
there are times when eternity can be seen
Agreed and when I close my eyes and listen to this, I can see in my mind a little bird ducking and diving in flight. It's a beautiful musical painting.

Every time I hear this (regardless of who's playing it), it knocks me flat. It's arguably the most beautiful piece of music ever composed. It's right at the beginning of my classical playlist.
Indeed, it is a wonderful piece. Thank you for listening to our interpretation!
Vaughan Williams touches areas of our soul, that are not so easy to reach....simply wonderful
This is a wonderful comment - thank you very much for it.
If I've had one of those days in work and i can't wait to get home, when i do i lie down and play this. Helps bring me to a happier place as i fly with the lark up into the clouds and out of sight. Beautiful
Happy to help! ;)
A follow on. My mother passed away in June and she adored this beautiful piece of music. The first time i went back to it after the funeral i couldn't get to the end because i broke down in tears. That's the power of music at times.
Our heartfelt condolences. How wonderful that there is such beautiful music like this that can move us so much.
Arabella such a beauty, playing beautiful music !
Many years ago when I was in London in Christmas time , i went to a music shop in there , with around five floors i think, I don't know exactly what part of London it was located , but in any case, at the entrance of the "classical" music floor , this wonderful music started to sound , and immediately it captivated to me and i fell in love with it , specially for the pentaphonic scale that it was in there , I don't know the reason why this beautiful scale always make me cry , incredible music for dreaming and relaxing .Thanks Arabella Steinbacher and NDR Radiophilharmonie orchestra for sharing this incredible music of one of the most representative English composer as RALPH VAUGHAN WILLIAMS.
We are happy to hear that and share the joy! Thank you for commenting!
Amazing Qualty. I love your imterpretation. Pure joy to listen to. Thank you 1000.
Thank you so much for listening - we're glad you enjoyed it!
This and Beethoven Concerto, are the trademark for The Beautiful Arabella, and of course, we need more videos to enjoy her Talented Hands!!!
Andrew Manze is a magician. He brings everyone together to give this absolute pinnacle of performance in a way that can touch every sensory perception. Altho this is a sublime piece of music wherever and whoever performs, Arabella Steinbacher takes me with her, instead of to some other place on my own. A tear every time. Glorious.
We are pleased to hear that! Thank you for commenting! 🙂
I thought this video is gone forever 🥺 thank you for uploading.
You are very welcome!
The best performance of the lark ascending l've ever heard ❤
Wow! Enjoy!
absolutely flawless and wondrous to behold.
Thank you so much!!
I love the version of Arabella Steinbacher, it is I think the best interpretation of the Lark Ascending.
Yay, thank you!!
I absolutely agree with you. :-)
I agree entirely, and there have been many other amazing performances of this beautiful composition by RVW to chose from.
Give Nicola Benedetti a try.
@@michaelcharlong5645 I will look at it., thanks for the tip.
THE best of many many versions of this magnificent composition I've heard over the years. Beautiful playing 👏
Wow, thank you! Much appreciated!!
Merci! Aussi au nom de Arabella Steinbacher!

Timeless Ralph Vaughan Williams : “The Lark Ascending” and its stunning performance by Arabella Steinbacher with the NDR Radiophilharmonie. Thank you, NDR Klassik for the upload.
You are very welcome!! We are happy to share the joy.
Excellent performance by the NDR Radiophilharmonie, Maestro Manze and the superb Arabella Steinbacher! Thank you NDR Klassik for the upload
You are very welcome! Thank you!
It's my favorite classic piece. Just beautiful and rich.
When I think of the comfort of my countryside,
my worldy worries and suffering disappear
I'm lost without my brother after he passed away. His soul flew to heaven.
Our sympathies. So sorry for your loss.
The only way to hear this wonderous music of Vaughan-Williams is to illegally lie down on your back in the middle of a farmers field of wheat in Sussex with your headphones on loud and look up into the sky and imagine the Lark singing and flying above you crying with joy at the marvellousness of existence without really knowing the reason why. Simply , the love of life, of flying and calling out to the world. Just how V-W expressed it so magnificently in his music. Bach and Mozart are my musical gods but this Cornishman can still have his heart pinged by Vaughan Williams at his most Englishness.
Wonderful idea! 🤩 Thank you very much for this inspiring comment.
Wow! It is so beautiful. The most beautiful music I’ve heard in a long time❤
Pure elegance and exquisite magnificence
Still my favourite so so beautiful thank you Arabella
It is our pleasure! Thank you.
A musical dream, traumhaft schön, Arabella S. in unity with her legendary Booth-Stradivarius. It's been also nice to watch Roland Greutter evidently here as a guest concertmaster from Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, leading his NDR collegues in this marvellous performance.
Yes, that is so! Roland Greutter from the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester is the concertmaster here. :)
An inspired performance of this singularly beautiful work by Steinbacher. And it's always a pleasure to see my long time favorite Roland Greutter as concertmaster.
We are happy to hear that! :)
Fantastic music 🎶
Thank you - agreed!
Excellent performance!
Thank you! :)
So beautiful ❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦
Thank you, and thank you @Arabella Steinbacher 🎻🤩!

Really great playing. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for listening! We're glad you enjoyed our recording. 😊
The magic of music. :)
I *just* stumbled onto this today; it turned up in my UA-cam feed for some reason, and I'm glad it did. This is one of my very favorite pieces of Romantic Classical music. Some observations/comments, if I may:
WOW, what a performance! It's been a while since I last listened to this song, but this performance felt a little different than what I've heard before; I'm guessing it's a different interpretation of the piece than is "usual"? Maybe just my imagination? Beats me, but I *really* enjoyed it! 👍
I loved seeing the conductor smiling at times - it looked like he was very happy with the performance. And the soloist... The way she moved, the look of her face - she looked like she was thoroughly enjoying herself, and in her mind was flying alongside that little lark. 😀 Absolutely wonderful.
Question: We suddenly got a view of the outside, with people watching on a big screen, and the camera suddenly zoomed in on someone in the outside audience. Was that someone who's well known in that area? Just curious.
Again, an amazing performance, and thanks so much for sharing it with us - I'll be saving this so I can find it again when I want to give it another listen. 🌝
I've heard many versions of this piece. This is head and shoulders above all of the others. Beautiful.
We are very pleased that you like the piece so much!
Wonderful on all its colours of the country side. Outstanding performance. 😊
Thank you!!

To weep of joy.
She's a chair for the Philharmonia in their phenomenal Tallis Fantasia.
This is lovely
To watch Arabella play.....you can see she is flying and soaring with that lark.
4:50 I cried
❤️
Why is no one talking about her 4th finger vibrato??? Never seen anything like it!
Yes. Incredible dexterity
Good, but I'm afraid spoilt by too much ambient noise.
Hach...🥰

This is not the Ascending every student could play it like her,i think there is a whole lot missing when you listen to miss Jansen you wil imediatly reconice the different.
Awful interpretation. That does not sound like a lark. Another violinist that simply doesn't understand what this music means.
I've no words for the stupidity of that text. She is a magnificent violinist
Let's see you do better then
@@PeterGreen-t8c Oh so you can only have an opinion if you're also a virtuoso violinist?
@@peteT269 No but I've played this one many times and it's the best of many versions I've heard down the years
Me thinks that Lark is going to poo on somebody from a great height.
