    Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus are my favourite pieces here. Esp Jupiter, the middle section that builds up. Love the dramatic timpani sections in Uranus with one player rapidly transitioning over all 4 drums.

      You talk of balance and the first time the ostinato in Mars reaches forte, the brass loses against strings and timpani. That's not exactly balance.

    • @OscarMendez-pn8yp
      @OscarMendez-pn8yp Рік тому +3

      @@Quotenwagnerianerif you're referring to 1:21, then Id have to disagree with you by saying that I CAN hear every instrument played at that moment. But even if it wasn't, there are SO many other moments where certain passages are not so clear all the time-which Manze was able to bring out.
      Some examples:
      8:10-the clarity of the harp articulations in relation to the sustained notes
      9:25-every solo string phrase in relation to the winds
      18:01-the interjections made by the winds were subtle yet clear EVERY time
      30:08- being able to hear clarinets WITH horns to create that color
      33:30-the balance between the harp harmonics with strings! It's SO difficult to get that many strings to play so softly with control
      39:13-A French Horn phrase that's often played louder than usual because the three voice spread. Its the first I felt it to be a nice mezzo forte.

    I've had the pleasure of seeing the Toronto Symphony Orchestra perform The Planets four times (most recently a couple weeks ago). Unequivocally, The Planets (and more specifically, Jupiter), is my favourite piece of music of all time. There's a certain sparkle that comes from listening to this being performed. Not to mention that this is a very well done recording of the suite. Manze did a phenomenal job at capturing the essence of seriousness, but also, playfulness of the suite. Brava!!

      I have no objection to this display of involvement in the music they are performing. Isn't music meant
      to activate the emotions - in both player and listener/viewer?

    Leider komplett ohne Orgel. Das ruiniert leider das ganze Werk. Wäre echt ein wichtiger Effekt in den Sätzen 1,5,6 und 7 gewesen. Knapp daneben ist auch vorbei.

      Schade, dass es Ihnen nicht gefällt. Wir stimmen zu, dass die Orgel fehlt, da Holst beabsichtigte, diesem Musikstück eine Atmosphäre des magischen Raums mit dem Klang der Orgel zu verleihen. Leider ist der Veranstaltungsort nicht mit einer Orgel ausgestattet und aus künstlerischer Sicht war es auch keine Option, stattdessen eine E-Orgel zu verwenden.

      @@NDRKlassik danke für Ihre Antwort. Man hätte durchaus ein elektronisches Orgeläquivalent nehmen können. Davon gibt es mittlerweile sehr gute. Z B das Instrument, welches Cameron Carpenter benutzt... oder die Orgel in der Düsseldorfer Tonhalle.
