Muzammil, I am a Christian who is well aware about the situation of Christians in Pakistan. I take great umbrage with you equating minorities in Pakistan and India. Christians in India are far, far better, we can go to church on Easter (2016 Lahore Easter bombing), do not get burned alive in a brick kiln, do not get lynched for blasphemy nor get our entire neighborhood burnt, and best of all -- We do not see advertisements from our military and municipalities looking for Christians to clear sh!t from sewerage drains.

I'm from Darjeeling,India though I'm Hindu but my father's cousins are all Christian who lives near us and there are many Christian in Darjeeling but they have never face hatred and all .Infact people of Darjeeling are Mostly Hindu then Buddhist and then Christian but now there are many Muslim,Jain,Sikh and other too who are working here or settled here none of them has face any problem here .Incase of religion we are living peacefully hope there will be no hatred for Christian community in other parts of the nation too. Muzammil mere bhai- you made me cry. In the village Thoha khalsa, rawalpindi, when the mob attacked, the last woman to jump in the well was my maternal grandmother. She couldn't die because well was already clogged with corpses. 2 days later british military arrived, and she survived. We were a reputed and well known family of pindi until that day. It's part of our life experience and our family history.

Syed, I had read few different things in different books but trust in you. I am not an Indian but has travelled to India and have seen the reality of minorities there. In India, % of mulsims are increased and it's reduced in other countries. Numbers talk. If check the representation of minorities in politics, sports and in other fields. minorities in India are way ahead. In Pakistan, law does not allow minuities to occupy the highest post. You did not mention another minor community Jainism . They were existing in Sindh but no more though their temples are still there. You did not mention about Congress party stopped Muslims to leave India and Mahatma Gandhi went on a hunger strike to stop killing of Muslims where as no prominent leader in Pakistan stopped killing of minorities rather they had vowed for direct action. At that time, Muslims said, they can not stay with Hindus , they are discriminated but after partition continued to stay in India and even today they are complaining of discrimination. Syed Muzammil sometimes does false equivalence between India and Pakistan. The M minorities in India are completely safe and they even threatened and killed people from majority communities in the name of blasphemy which is impossible for a minority member from Pakistan or Bangladesh to be that aggressive against the majority community. Moreover, M minorities in India have grown from 9% to 16% in population and became second biggest majority but In Pakistan and Bangladesh, minorities got significantly reduced due to religious fundamentalism. In future, if there is any demand for another secession, it will again start from M community in India because of their incompatible behavior of living other communities. Also, as you raised the topic of multiple wars at the end, please have the spine to tell that all those wars between India and Pakistan were initiated by Pakistan and you cannot hold India accountable for retaliating to Pakistan's aggression. The biggest blunder in history of India was incomplete partition and population exchange of Hindus and Muslims. If all the Muslims would have gone to Pakistan / Bangladesh and all Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains came to India in 1947, then a lot of internal and external problems of India and Paksitan would have been solved. There would be no long drawn conflict in Kashmir, and possibly both countries would have been much more developed than they are today.

Partition happened on the basis of religion. Islam never wants to live with non-Muslims. When they become more in number, they want their own separate nation. And this is the trend of Islam. For example, Islamic countries separated from Russia. Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan separated from India. They are working with an agenda, Dar ul Harab is a non-Islamic country but it has a good number of Muslim population. *When Muslims in Minority they wants Secularism and Equal Rights But when they become majority, they declare the country as Islamic country.

We Indians are well aware of the horrors of partition since we have been told repeatedly and learnt from our history what happened, we always consider Pakistan Independence day as a horror day. This has affected mostly the northern states but what is binding in our nationalism is that we had freedom fighters from all over India who fought for the freedom of our country from the British but not with the intention of dividing our country. It is no wonder there is no nationalistic feeling in Pakistan other than religion based because of which they sought a new country. The history of Indian Independence might not be aware to most Pakistanis but here in India are well aware of who sacrificed their lives for our freedom and also aware of those who divided the country and brought such hardships, mostly for those residing in the northern states who are still reeling under this divisive hatred.
Difference between India and Pakistan is that Indian constitution gives equal rights to all minorities whereas Pakistan establishment systematically persecute them.

Modi can't pass any law that violates the Constitution but yes he can instigate hatred in majority against minority, for that we have civil society (really strong one). In case of Pakistan, Constitution is anti minority itself, you can't have Hindu PM, CJ etc., you have books that teach hatred towards Hindus to school kids whereas Indian school syllabus is completely secular. I do agree that there is hatred towards Muslims in some sections of extremists but nowhere compared to Pakistan. Majority of Muslims in those 87% seats wanted Pakistan, but when it was formed they didn't go there. It's a sad reality. Only those who didn't vote for Pakistan should have stayed and those who genuinely treated hindus as their brothers. Rest of them should have moved to Pakistan.

While I agree to the notion that grave human atrocities were committed on both sides of the border, I still find it baffling that you would say that conditions of minorities are the same on both side of the border. The numbers speak for themselves. While muslim population in India has not only grown as a whole but also as proportion to the overall population, minorities in both Pakistan and Bangladesh have been pushed to the brink of extinction. The reason this is important is because the blame of incitement of violence and mass murder must rest on the party that started it. One cannot equate the blame to the party reacting, as horrific as that reaction maybe, as being the same as those who started this violence. It is ludicrous to even consider that minorities in both India and Pakistan have met the same fate post partition, as that is simply not true. Any independent and unbiased investigation into the subject will reveal this.
As a young sikh my father would not let me read too much about the partition, it was quite later in life that he opened up about his grand father,my great grand father had faced the violence of the mohammadans in our ancestral area of pindi. Since he was ex british indian army he was armed and was after much degree of difficulty able to rescue many of our family and neighbours succesfully. It has taken 2 generations for our family to get back the status we had. But waheguru ji as my witness were anybody to touch india we would annihilate their very existence.

As an Indian, I am struck by how little acknowledgement of the horrors of Partition there is in our celebrations of independence. Thank you Syed for reviving this important topic. Sadly with generations passing by we have failed to teach our kids about this tragic time. Partly to blame are my parents who were kids when they came over to India. They have always wanted to forget it as it does rekindle thoughts and reminds them of the possible PTSD that they are left with. My mother still believes that it was a bad time for Punjab and that’s it - no hate harboured till this day. In fact she saddens when anti pak propaganda is spread across India. The museum built in Amritsar is a good place to take our next generation to remind them of the mayhem that still scars our two beautiful nations.

You have uncovered the horrible history of partition of India. What kind of independence had been achieved for the common man with the atrocities of such a mass scale? Christians in India are far, far better, we can go to church on Easter (2016 Lahore Easter bombing), do not get burned alive in a brick kiln, do not get lynched for blasphemy nor get our entire neighborhood burnt, and best of all -- We do not see advertisements from our military and municipalities looking for Christians to clear sh!t from sewerage drains.

She couldn't die because well was already clogged with corpses. 2 days later british military arrived, and she survived. We were a reputed and well known family of pindi until that day. It's part of our life experience and our family history.

Syed Muzammil sometimes does false equivalence between India and Pakistan. The M minorities in India are completely safe and they even threatened and killed people from majority communities in the name of blasphemy which is impossible for a minority member from Pakistan or Bangladesh to be that aggressive against the majority community. Moreover, M minorities in India have grown from 9% to 16% in population and became second biggest majority but In Pakistan and Bangladesh, minorities got significantly reduced due to religious fundamentalism. In future, if there is any demand for another secession, it will again start from M community in India because of their incompatible behavior of living other communities.
Also, as you raised the topic of multiple wars at the end, please have the spine to tell that all those wars between India and Pakistan were initiated by Pakistan and you cannot hold India accountable for retaliating to Pakistan's aggression. Moreover, in the current circumstances, Pakistan lost its relevance in India and India started ignoring Pakistan since last few years.

The biggest blunder in history of India was incomplete partition and population exchange of Hindus and Muslims.
If all the Muslims would have gone to Pakistan / Bangladesh and all Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains came to India in 1947, then a lot of internal and external problems of India and Paksitan would have been solved.
There would be no long drawn conflict in Kashmir, and possibly both countries would have been much more developed than they are today.

Partition happened on the basis of religion. Islam never wants to live with non-Muslims. When they become more in number, they want their own separate nation. And this is the trend of Islam. For example, Islamic countries separated from Russia. Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan separated from India. They are working with an agenda, Dar ul Harab is a non-Islamic country but it has a good number of Muslim population.

We Indians are well aware of the horrors of partition since we have been told repeatedly and learnt from our history what happened, we always consider Pakistan Independence day as a horror day. This has affected mostly the northern states but what is binding in our nationalism is that we had freedom fighters from all over India who fought for the freedom of our country from the British but not with the intention of dividing our country. It is no wonder there is no nationalistic feeling in Pakistan other than religion based because of which they sought a new country. Modi can't pass any law that violates the Constitution but yes he can instigate hatred in majority against minority, for that we have civil society (really strong one). In case of Pakistan, Constitution is anti minority itself, you can't have Hindu PM, CJ etc., you have books that teach hatred towards Hindus to school kids whereas Indian school syllabus is completely secular. I do agree that there is hatred towards Muslims in some sections of extremists but nowhere compared to Pakistan. While I agree to the notion that grave human atrocities were committed on both sides of the border, I still find it baffling that you would say that conditions of minorities are the same on both side of the border. The numbers speak for themselves. While muslim population in India has not only grown as a whole but also as proportion to the overall population, minorities in both Pakistan and Bangladesh have been pushed to the brink of extinction. The reason this is important is because the blame of incitement of violence and mass murder must rest on the party that started it. One cannot equate the blame to the party reacting, as horrific as that reaction maybe, as being the same as those who started this violence. It is ludicrous to even consider that minorities in both India and Pakistan have met the same fate post partition, as that is simply not true. Any independent and unbiased investigation into the subject will reveal this.
As a young sikh my father would not let me read too much about the partition, it was quite later in life that he opened up about his grand father,my great grand father had faced the violence of the mohammadans in our ancestral area of pindi. Since he was ex british indian army he was armed and was after much degree of difficulty able to rescue many of our family and neighbours succesfully. It has taken 2 generations for our family to get back the status we had. But waheguru ji as my witness were anybody to touch india we would annihilate their very existence.

Partition happened on the basis of religion. Islam never wants to live with non-Muslims. When they become more in number, they want their own separate nation. And this is the trend of Islam. For example, Islamic countries separated from Russia. Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan separated from India. They are working with an agenda, Dar ul Harab is a non-Islamic country but it has a good number of Muslim population.

As an Indian, I am struck by how little acknowledgement of the horrors of Partition there is in our celebrations of independence. Thank you for giving voice to the millions of forgotten victims of an ernormous political failure. It is so refreshing to hear a Pakistani perspective on Partition that I agree with 100%. I will be sure to watch this on every August 15 just like I watch the Tryst with Destiny speech. Any chance you can put out an English-subtitled version that I can show to people who don’t understand Urdu? I want all my Indian friends to see and understand this.
Thank you Syed for reviving this important topic. Sadly with generations passing by we have failed to teach our kids about this tragic time. Partly to blame are my parents who were kids when they came over to India. They have always wanted to forget it as it does rekindle thoughts and reminds them of the possible PTSD that they are left with. My mother still believes that it was a bad time for Punjab and that’s it - no hate harboured till this day. In fact she saddens when anti pak propaganda is spread across India. The museum built in Amritsar is a good place to take our next generation to remind them of the mayhem that still scars our two beautiful nations.

Being a Pashtoon(Pathan) from KPK (Peshawar) i.e former NWFP and grandchild of a brave soldier who fought for the freedom of this land from Britishers......I am proud to say that we have every kind of freedom in our region, irrespective of religion. We have Sikhs living happily and peacefully and flourishing in our region and most of them have their personal businesses and many of them are doctors as well (search on YT if you dont believe me).....even many of our school teachers are Christians and I personally have Hindus living in my neighbourhood......we all live with peace and love with one another because we Pashtoons believe that a good Muslim is always a good human being . IF you aren`t a good human then you can`t become a good Muslim.....I pray to ALLAH that may HE keep this mutual love alive among all human beings and give intellect to all those silly people who are fighting on Sanatan and Islam in the comment section......AMEEN

You have uncovered the horrible history of partition of India. What kind of independence had been achieved for the common man with the atrocities of such a mass scale? Maulana Azad had a vision for the salvation of humanity in India. Jinnah didn't care about the consequences of such brutal humanitarian crisis.
Partition could have been done peacefully. But Jinnah and Jihadi were asshole;they thought let's try to slaughter entire non Muslim population and capture entire country. Partition preparation was happening for more than 2 years,not in single day. Still they launch direct action day. Except for Muslims who didn't vote for Muslim League,should have been thrown out from this country but 2/3rd of those assholes stayed put to fight for another day.

Great content.. But at last you made a wrong conclusion about minority in both countries, You and your team should educate yourself about the condition of minorities in both countries after partition.
Indian minority had increased tremendously and none of them had gone back to Pakistan leaving India while in contrast Hindu minorities in Pakistan who was in a handsome number is now almost vanished.
