This vlog was filmed 12th-15th February 2020.
Instead of staying on the mainland in Cartagena, he headed on a boat straight out to the San Bernardo Islands. Specifically to an island hostel called Isla Roots. We explored the most denseley poppulated island on the world - Islote... Went subwinging for the first time, went snorkelling, swam with plankton (not seen in the video) as well as sipped many cocktails in the hostel chill out spot. Featuring Cole from Canada (@nomadicneverland)

Ah thanks so much! That means a lot! I have a long way to go but I definitely improved a lot along my travels which feels so good!
So we are just back from Isla Tintipan and we stayed in @Islaroots after watching this video for only one night we were supposed to be there for 2.
It is completely different to what you see on this video - it’s a ghost town, very creepy with the people who are now running it, it seems that Covid has had a big impact on this place and hasn’t recovered.
There are about 4 people at the hostel running it who really don’t care about the place. there’s no management and we survived as we had one girl who was volunteering there who was great and spoke fluent English and some Spanish. The cocktail bar was closed all day, there was 6 of us staying there only so zero vibe, it is not clean, there are so many flies especially around the kitchen area where they cook your meals and cats all over the place.
Also the water sports are non existent anymore - they have no idea what’s going on.
Casa En Al Agra is the way to go if you plan to travel to these islands.

I love this serie!! I was wondering are there lockers in the hostel? Can you maybe make a video about keeping you stuff secure especially your laptop and camera and stuff, because I think there is not always a locker? I am always wondering. I travelled in America in hostels but further I am pretty new and am curious :) 💕 love your vlogs!

I have been waiting for Cartagena vlogs!! I know you are already home but El Viajara is a great hostel as well if you ever go back! I was only there for a few days so I didn't get a chance to go to the islands but I will need to go back, they look beautiful!
I loved the Viajero hostels! I stayed in a few in Cali and Salento, so much fun!

I loved Cartagena when I went. The hostel you stayed at looked amazing, gutted I didn't have the time to go out on to the islands when i was there, definitely trip inspo!

I stayed at this hostel and didn’t like it actually. I guess the owners changed because service and quality was not good. And also I still felt very trapped on this island. Meals were expensive while you don’t get to choose on whether you pay for them or not. You need to otherwise you don’t have food. And there was no social vibe when I was there. Only some colombian couples there..

Great video! Would you consider doing a video reflecting on your packing choices for carry on only for this trip? Did you bring anything unnecessary, were you happy with your Eagle Creek Backpack, is there anything you wished you'd done differently etc? Also are your backpacking solo tees still available? Thanks for this video Christianne! Back in February, I booked a solo trip to Mexico City and Medellin for May and I was on the fence of whether or not I wanted to make it out to Cartagena. After seeing this video, I know I want to visit both cities whenever things are back to normal. I also saw on the activity sheet at the hostel that there's an excursion to see the bioluminescent plankton which has been on my bucket list for years! All we can do at this point is look at the extra time to plan what we want to explore on our future adventures. Stay well!

As an Australian, I really recommend the Great Ocean Road, and Phillip Island if you decide to go to Melbourne!

Columbia looks like paradise. It has never been on my travel bucket-list but maybe it should be. Also it made me so nervous watching you do water-sports with hoop earrings... I just envisioned them getting caught!!!

I really enjoyed this video. In 2011 we went to the Caribbean Coast of Colombia after a one night stay in Bogota due to fog in London. We spent time in Cartagena and Santa Martha. It was lovely to do day trips at both places. The next year we managed to visit other countries in wonderful South America. Your videos are perfect and make my life feel happier.

I think that the hostel looks like I lot of fun, but was wondering how much the food and drinks ended up costing you ( since you don't have the option to shop around they could charge whatever they want and you would have to pay it )
Good question! The breakfast is included.. lunch and dinner prices are both 30k COP which is about £6 , so not the cheapest! But not completely unreasonable either for a full meal including juice 😊
Thanks for your question! We have very fair prices, nor have we increased them since we opened in 2016, the portions are very generous and you can enjoy very fresh fish, lobster, crab and octopus all hand caught and with an authentic island flavour. PARADISE AWAITS!
