Very nice door latch, can also be mounted in between two doors and works like a XOR gate
Heavy security just slows them down. A Sawzall will cut it's own door beside the locked one! Nice project. ✌ 😃

What is that contraption you use to light your oxy/acetylene torch?? I’m a welder and I use a torch every day, I would love to find out how you’re lighting it that quickly and with one hand.

Its a gas saver. Fuel and oxygen in with a shut off you hang the torch from and a pilot light. Mine is made by Smith.

Would it be possible it divot or sink the plate so the rivets lay flat on the door? Great work!
Flush rivets in the thin mounting plate wouldn't be as strong. But with a thicker plat it would work

I have a old house from 1883 and some of the doorlocks outside are forged and do their job since the building of my house .
The modern lock in my Maindoor i think i have changed it i think three times .

Hallo John, I like your autentic way. Could you give me some infortmations about double valve between oxygen/acetilene bombs and burner, which extinguishes and re-ignites the flame? Type, manufacturer , ... ?

How come you spent so much time filing the tenons? I would of thought you would get it close and then heat in forge and hammer it in? Just curious! Thanks!
That can work. but it can also lead to distortion and others complications

Security? Just use a double keeper with a longer bolt.

You could use a small length of rod to "fill" the hole while peening the first tenon to prevent deforming it.

Love this stuff! This is exactly the type of stuff I'm interesting in forging myself. While other channels make knives and swords, I'm so glad you're sticking to the classics: tools, hooks, latches, etc.

That latch turned out great John, i could definitely see a smaller version on a cabin door or other rustic building.
Good job . Some times it's best to use all the technology we have available to us . I do like old fashioned way however for fit and finish or just don't want it to rattle your ears off
Hi John, very nice project, really beautiful..... When the FBI comes... LOL. But I've a question. Can you please tell me what the size of your dies in the blacksmith magician is (l x w x h). In Europe it's hard to find the blacksmith magician.
roughly 20 x 50 x 100mm. But these are made in so many variations you can do just about anything to suit your needs. Finding a readily available stock size for the dies then making the tool to fit is a good way to go.
