@@gcn Whatever your presenters want! That's kind of the point of my comment - I like seeing *them* go deep on what they love. Your content is great, but when your presenters let their personalities and interests drive, it's next level.
Great effort by Phil!! Must admit that when it said beginner vs velodrome I was so hoping to see Harriet tackle the velodrome! Make it happen please!!😎🤟
ANother brilliant film guys! I genuinely have googled my local track at Palmer Park, Reading to find out more and begin some steps to try out track cycling! Phil is an inspiration so thank you for putting this film together!
Track cycling is BEYOND FUN IT IS AMAZING !! First time Ever on a track or fixed gear bike ( 54 years old) And phobic about heights) I LOVED EVERY SINGLE SECOND …. Would like to try for a National win next year now 57) it is truly mind blowing!!!
Love the track content! Getting in to track cycling is the best thing I have done for myself in terms of cycling. Road racing felt like putting a square peg into a round hole for me, but sprinting on the track suits me and my body much more 😊
Nice job Phil. Did a track "day" once and forgot to keep pedaling after the finish, thankfully only a split second so kept it up. Wasn't so lucky training on a crit course where I tried drinking water from a regular plastic bottle. As I was putting the cap back on, forgot to pedal, went off the course over the bars, and just missed a tree but still fractured a shoulder blade. My fixie has been parked ever since.
Great video, enjoyed that! Well done Phil. I’d love to have a go on the track. I was lucky enough to win a ticket to one of the Revolution Series events at the Manchester Velodrome a few years back. Honestly it was one of the most exciting things I’ve seen. The atmosphere was incredible and the speed…wow! Oh and I got to watch Sir Chris win the invitation Kerin too 😊
I’d love to see someone do the Rad Race that Hank did two or three years ago again. Might be a bit cruel to send Phil as a beginner. He’s obviously got a turn of speed on a fixie though. It would be a great video I think.
Well done Phil and great coaching Manon. On the subject of track cycling, what a bloke Ed Clancy is. Shook his hand when he came into my school as a kid.
Winter training for the road was always on a fixed. Mine is a MangoBike , 46 x 16. A bit heafty, hey, it's training. After a few road bashes, fixed bike will 'fit like a glove'.
OK Manon! That was amazing! And it has pushed me to explore our velodrome in Milton Ontario, near our home in Hamilton! Too cool! Super content! Hats off to Phil! He obviously excelled on the wonderful tutelage tips. I would die of nerves!
@@gcn I’ve reached out to the guy to ask him about putting the track on my university but he said he’s currently in the middle of working out a deal to build an indoor track. Got an introductory ride at my local velodrome (Tel Aviv) what a great experience. Wish it was a bit closer I would sign up for a course to really learn to ride on the track. Every serious rider should try this is at least once.
Enjoying these track videos - I still don't have the goals and strategy of each event firmly in mind though these videos and the track cycling series should help.
Definitely would have been my event if I had gotten into competitive riding. As a teen I rode everywhere and loved the televised events. No facilities here, would have had to move. Probably a bit late to start now, I haven't been a teen for over 40 years.... Still riding though, did a winter (technically mid fall, but snow everywhere) ride yesterday, and reminded myself I need new tires. - Cheers
This video is so informative! I've been wanting to start cycling for a while, but was afraid I wouldn't be able to handle the harder workouts. This video has helped me realize that I can do it!
Could you do more in depth video about the velodrome like you do for road bike? I feel like all of the velodrome content on your channel is directed towards absolute beginners
Looks fun, pity there's only the one in Scotland indoors in Glasgow named after Sir Chris and that's 120 miles away....oh well, can't have it all got the Cairngorms instead lol
The thing I always wonder about track cycling is, if someone wants to get in to it but isn't a world class athlete, what is the medium to long-term experience of it? Can people go to a velodrome in the same way that you might go to a swimming pool, and do a few laps regularly? I don't mean taster sessions and that sort of thing. Are there races for us mere mortals with no aspirations (or hope) of national/international competition? One of the many things I like about road cycling is you can enjoy it without racing. I'm not sure how one can work track cycling in to their life regularly without at least being one of the best cyclists in their local area.
Yep, once you get accredited to your local velodrome you can just turn up for open sessions, just like going to a lane swimming session at your local pool. All velodromes also run track leagues with races at multiple ability levels. If you actually have a velodrome near you it’s a fun and inclusive scene and very accessible - track bikes are very cheap and you can always get a hire bike when you are deciding if it’s for you. Of course if you don’t have a local velodrome then it’s a lot harder.
