As Slovak, I appreciate the effort and detail that went into this video. More attention could be put towards correct pronunciation, because if a foreigner will ask about any of these places or foods, locals will have no idea what they are talking about. The guy who made the video did not explain why Slovakia is allegedly "the craziest country in Europe'.
don't know about you, but I find having a tradition about harassing women pretty crazy, and if you are traditional woman in Slovakia and you enjoy it, it's fine, whatever floats your boat, but if you're not, I imagine being held by two dudes while two other dudes whip you with braided branches and another one is throwing a bucket of cold water on you (as demonstrated in the video) year after year, really annoying and degrading and let's not forget it's Easter, most of the time it's not warm enough to be wet outside and also in that day it won't happen once, it's done from morning to noon and every dude you know is gonna do it and they are supposed to be rewarded when they do so, like again that sounds pretty fuckin crazy to me.
@@nopenope1608 this tradition is always portrayed so horribly in all these videos, where I live people are usually decent human beings and usually just use a little sprinkles of water or some perfume instead of buckets of water also whipping was usually done softly just for the tradition to wish the girl health and beauty but ofc drunk fks and people that think they can use this tradition to satisfy their violent nature and low ego and not be "responsible" bc "It Is JuSt A tRaDiTiOn" are pretty much ruining it and making a bad name for it (also on monday it was the boys doing this and on tuesday it was the girls but it might be only in the part where I live)
@@nopenope1608see below. It's not quite how it's portrayed but very symbolic. Nobody would put up with it these days 😀

Thank you for your outside view and promotion of Slovakia. It was very interesting :). Please don't mind notes regarding slovak pronunciation. I know its tough for foreigners and you handled it well.
Right told, pronunciation is quite dire for outsiders, but there was lot of mistakes in whole video, while it seems like promotion of only west part, if he would promote Slovakia as it is this video would have more than hour.
I'm a Kentuckian and about 20 years took the train from Vienna to Bratislava on a whim. I absolutely loved my brief time there, the kindness of the people I met and the architecture. I also greatly enjoyed an inexpensive, tasty meal and a top notch local beer. It makes me want to return for a good, long trip around the country.

The best on Slovakia is that You can eat there the poppy seeds with "sulance" or a poppy seed cake. Poppy seed is the stuff from which the opium is made and is forbidden in most countries in the world, but in Slovakia You can buy it in grocery stores.
Immature poppy seed is from which the opium as you know it as drugs is made. Mature poppy seed can be normally eaten cause it doesn´t contain any hallucinogenic substance and is safe even if you would eat a lot of it. That´s why it can be used in food industry. But I know it´s not so common in the west countries or in Asia where people mostly know only the opium related to immature poppy seeds.

To the speaker: Please, before speaking about Slovakia, inform yourself about correct slovak pronunciation! Otherwise listening to you, how you spoil slovak words, is horrible. Do not ignore 13:28 letters č, š, ž, ť, ď, ň, the small sign above is not an ornament, but a softener, making them a soft variant of the given letter. C is never K in slovak, but as ts in English. J is never dž or ž but always J as in German or Scandinavian languages, like Y in Youth. And CH is not š, but it is pronounced like kh in English.
Imagine someone finally cares about your country, this time ''not thanks'' to corruption and being couple of tens years behind modern civilization ( I am not talking about houses and how it looks here but about law, rules and mentality here). But you just actually did show ''actual Oplátky'' we have right now in Slovakia and it's not based on warm welcome (like it used to) but separating and if you actually have problems with foreign people talking with ''clumsy'' Slovak language... you should see ppl talking in English in UK and how bad that was and it is actual known language unlike us right?

49. bizarre thing you forgot is that there are a lot of Hungarians living within 50 km of the border and bilingual communication is everywhere.Slovakia is beautiful✌️
Such minorities are in every country close to borders. It is not special to Slovakia, and it would just trigger some Slovaks, as Hungarian did a lot of harm to Slovak ancestors. So why poke an almost healed wound. Because you are Hungarian? My great-grandfather was tortured by Hungarians, even had to change his Slovak surname to a Hungarian one to be able to keep his job... and earn money for his family.
Also this bilingual minority canNOT speak nor correct Slovak neither correct Hungarian language. They speak a local language mixture. I have friends from the area, and they told me that. Even my boss had to speak English to Hungarian business partners, because they could not understand his "Hungarian" language. So they are not really fully bilingual. Which is sad and lost opportunity. They cannot work in Slovak language as they don't speak or write it well enough, as their parents never pressed them to learn the correct version. Nor the correct version of Hungarian language. Again, this is what my friends told me. I blame the parents.
Yeah, you are right. It is bizzare that you mention it... You apparently have no respect or love to Slovaks to do that.

Ahoj. Veľmi pekne ďakujem za toto video o mojej rodnej krajine. Aj keď sa nedá v tak krátkej prezentácií povedať a ukázať všetko, ale koho to záujme a chcel by Slovensko navštíviť je to veľmi dobrý návod na to aby si o Slovensku zistil oveľa viac.
Všimol som si že robíš aj videá o iných krajinách Európy. Veľmi super čo robíš. Aby aj ľudia z opačnej strany sveta vedeli o Európe a štátoch v nej oveľa viac.
Ešte raz ti ďakujem, super práca a držím ti palce v ďalšej práci a super videách.
Mám otázku na teba či si bol aj osobne v niektorých krajinách v Európe? S ktorej krajiny si ty ?
Modrý kostolik - Blue church in Bratislava is nice - but you missed a few meters away from it - most important church in Bratislava - Dóm svätého Martina - St. Martin's Cathedral. An amazing Gothic cathedral, in which the Austrian monarchs, including Maria Theresa, were crowned for more than a century, and the Klariska temple. The beautiful church of St. Elizabeth in Košice and, among other things, the wooden altar of Master Paul from Levoča, which is located nearby, are definitely worth mentioning. These monuments, like many others, for example, unique wooden churches in eastern Slovakia, are included in the UNESCO list. In short - you missed a lot... Next time you need to spend more time in Slovakia and consult with the locals...
Bratislava was the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary and its kings and royal wives were crowned here. It was at the time when Buda was occupied by the Ottoman Empire, i.e. the Turks.
Bro, Vianoční kapr/vánoční kapr is a regular carp, roasted, deep fryed or baked most likely served with potato salad. You show us fish soup maked from residue parts of carp :-)))

I came here cause I miss a guy from this country. I fell in love with him because of his great personality and thinking. Hopefully I will get to meet him someday.

what others see: 48 bizarre facts about Slovakia
what Slovaks see: *48 ways of butchering Slovak names*
so, let me correct you on a few:
- C is ALWAYS pronounced as TS and NEVER as K... therefore it's KapustniTSa, not KapustniKa, BystriTSa, not BystriKa, SHtianviTSa, not StiavniKa, KremniTSa, not KremniKa and most importantly, SlivoviTSa, not SlivoviKa
- G is pronounced as in go, not as in giant... therefore it's Fashiangy, not FasianDJee
- when you see CK together in a word, it's pronounced as TSK... it's RayeTSKa Lesna, not RayeKa Lesna, and it's PlaTSKy, not PlaKy
- similarly, ČK together makes a CH-K sound, therefore it's pronounced as ShibaCHKa, not ShibaKa
- CH is pronounced as in the Scottish word Loch... it's TiCHa noTS, not TiSHa NoK (remember that rule about C letter above) and its pronounced as OreCHova Potuon, not OreSHova Poton
- J is pronounced like y in "yet", not like j in "jam"... so it's pronounced as Tokay, not Tokaj, as Yanosheekove Dni, not Janiskove Dni and as KroY, not KroJ
- Spiš Castle = Spish, not Shpeez castle... what we called špíz, is a form of a barbecue dish where you have baked potatos, veggie and sausages on a tiny wooden stick, lol
- it's Kapor, Kapr is Czech word
but you nailed Čičmany as a native, so credit given where it belongs :)
Noice vid. We also have beverage called " Borovička" also nicknamed as "Revenge from the forest" and u should try it :D
One important info for Americans is that in SVK you can buy a one room flat surrounded by the hills for only 20-30k and then you ought to pay only 11€ a month to renovation fond when you are not there. In the case you are there it will cost you less than a hundred per month….living in the nature is good for wisdom and spirit, no need to pay hundreds of thousands for a mortgage
Am proud of bein gipsy Slovakian ❤❤
While spending seven years (2003-2010) in my ancestral homeland (now the Czech Republic) I had many a Czech guy (of various ages) tell me that Slovak women are the loveliest in all the lands!. And, btw, slivovice (especially the pear variety) is deelicious! And, bramborak (a/k/a 'cmunda') is a most-tasty potato pancake indeed!
My country is Slovakia 🇸🇰
Thanks for propagating our beautiful country ❤
I love the way how you made a gorgeous video about my home country! Thank you very much for that :-)
22 and 48 questionable. Tokaj region in Hungary and the palinka strong alcohol percentage Hungarian fruit brandy. Everything else makes beautiful Slovakia and strongly recommend to visit.
Bratislava, Trnava, Nitra, Trenčín Košice, Banská Štiavnica, Bardejov and a lot more are beautiful cities, worthy to visit to see.
Please its not ,,faz-eangy” its kind of ,,fashiangy” ( try listening to this Word on translator- type fašiangy for the slovakian part)
But a beautiful video, this is not meant as a hateful comment. Iknow it has hard pronounciation but my ears bled a little so I just had to write it
Why The Craziest Country in Europe.. ????
Applause to Slovakia, the another country in EU that still has its own identity and its own brain and perspective (second being Hungary). Great country.
To má být jako aplaus Ficovi a Orbanovi za to, že pořád lezou Rusku do zadnice? Fico leze Putlerovi do análu tak moc, že musela být zrušena jednání vlád Slovenska a Česka, to mi přijde dost smutné.
realy? half of things are czech, not slovak. and the pics are mostely czech too.. :D but we still love Slovakia :)
Ja Československo💔❤🩹
The Slovaks did not feel "liberated" by the communists, quite the opposite.
Universitas Istropolitana is the oldest university in Slovakia , 15th century
Ich ani len vo sne nenapadne, že ostatné krajiny sveta majú svoj vlastný jazyk so špecifickou výslovnosťou. Je to hrubá ignorancia, nevedomosť, nedostatok rešpektu a úcty… Najlepším príkladom je odborná latinská terminológia. Tiež obrázky s bývalou Československou vlajkou, dnes českou , a dokonca s ukrajinskou (8:07) sú akosi mimo. Nebyť týchto hrubých nedostatkov, bolo by to príjemné video.

Výborné video. Bolo tam okolo 20 faktov, ktoré som nikdy neočul. 😂
Chyba mi vo videu Dom sv.Alzbety v Kosiciach, najvacsi kostol na Slovensku. Tato goticka katedrala si rozhodne zasluzi pozornost.🙂
A tiež korunovačný kostol sv. Martina v Bratislave !
kapor not kapr, kapr is in czech language
No need to use slovak word, he may say simply carp.
to je jedno, kedze vo videu ukazal miesto kapra kapustnicu...tolko hluposti, co v tomto videu, som uz davno nevidela... Akoze dakujem, ze ukazuje zo Slovenska cudzincom aspon nieco, ale v 48 bodoch nespomenut druhe najvacsie mesto Slovenska je non-sense...

Dude, you have so many mistakes there, it looks like you have been in Slovakia 3 days.... but big up for the effort, you get c-
Shame on you to read all those Slovak names, foods and cities incorrectly! Nowadays when you can use google translate to listen to the correct pronunciation, there is no other excuse for your horrible neglect in pronunciation than you dont really care about Slovakia or Europe! This is just for views/money. The letter C is always pronounced as "TS" never as K or CZ!!! Shame on you! At least you wrote all those names correctly. Just "carp" is not KAPR but KAPOR, but I assume this is just a typo...

I met this August a Taiwanese couple, two travelers accross Europe and they loved a lot our caves. They visited the ice cave Dobsinska ladova jaskyna in Slovak paradise national park and the Demanovska jaskyna slobody in Low Tatras national park.
By my opinion it is really offensive to pronounce slovak words in english way. If you make video about country you should at least try to pronounce it in original language. It is sad. You made entirely new words.
As a Slovak, I dont like Tatratea. I drank too much once and threw up from it. And btw slivovica is more Hungarian then Slovakian but yes, we like drinking it. Borovička is more like the national drink.

Thank you for the nice video with interesting facts about our state. However, I recommend to listen to the voice translation of our typical words that should not be translated, but pronounced accurately.
For example, the word KAPUSTNICA can be pronounced correctly by Google translator. You couldn't do it very well ;-)
You're forgiven for the effort in making the video ;-)
A lot of inaccurate and erroneous information :(.
guys you got it all wrong with velvet revolution, it was to get off the comunist together with czech... oh my...
1:35 - North Macedonian currency is shown.... You guys are amateurs! 🙈
Why on earth don't you ask how to pronounce those words before making video. It is nothing like it sounds in reality. These are completely different words and no one would understand if they didn't read them. 🤦 Just a bit of effort before you voice the video which is otherwise nice.
I'm from slovakia and this popped up on my for you page lol xD
The Coat of Arms is symbolizing Christian heritage, not Slavic.
Kapustnica - thick cabbage soup with bacon or sausage and mushrooms - and other ingredients - for example dried prunes - recipes differ in different regions... Cabbage soup is traditionally served on the first Christmas holiday, December 25, on St. Stephen's Day, therefore it is called Štefánska kapustnica served with sour cream and fresh bread. must be tasted. BUT the national dish is Bryndzové halušky Bryndz dumplings. Bryndz dumplings were mainly the food of sheep herders. they are gnocchi made from potato dough with fried onions and bacon and with bryndza. Bryndza - Liptauer cheese is a traditional product. It is a soft sheep's cheese with a protected origin, like Parmesan, Roquefort or Emmental, similar to cottage cheese... Bryndza may only be produced in Slovakia and was patented during the time of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy... Unpasteurized - "summer bryndza" is probiotic atomic bomb. Despite the fat content of 56 percent, you will lose weight with its regular consumption. It tastes great with fresh milk.
Kapustnica is served on Christmas Eve dinner which is the most important meal of Slovak Christmas connected with special customs and traditions
