I love how long this video is. A lot of people start off with "I'll try not to make this video too long" but WHY. I'm here bc I want HOURS of plant content! lol
It’s so funny because I feel like people are at polar opposite ends of the spectrum 😆 I get a decent amount of these comments saying they love the longer videos, and then others who say they wish I made shorter ones. I actually struggle with making short videos though- 1 hour seems to be my normal and that’s considered “short” for me 😆
Had to pause the video to say, I laughed out loud when the zebra leaf *detached* on cue. Your plants are comedy gold. Sending much love to you and pudge to block out that hate, people are too free.
@@aldrob108 I think it’s okay if people had a healthy discourse about different points of view, but when it becomes a mean-spirited comment, name calling etc that’s trolling and being too free. But that’s just my opinion.
Most of my plants that I had in containers with no drainage were thriving and shooting of leaves like crazy. You have amazing plants so keep doing what you’re doing!
This makes me so happy 😭 thank you Tiffany 🥺 I’ve had so much fun learning this new way of taking and editing photos and I’m SO glad I took the time to take a few classes. Still lots to learn though!! My next goal is going to be taking classes on how to use my DSLR to take photos of my plants because there are so many knobs and buttons I’m like WHAT DO I DOOOO

why are people so mean about the no drainage thing : / I grow a bunch of my plants in no drainage too and I've never had any particular issues with those. Like, just because they can't make it work doesn't mean nobody else can...
I watched several of your videos to try and collect as much info about no drainage as I could because I feel like a lot of my plants would benefit from no drainage (I was thinking the Alocasia and ferns) but this is amazing! So excited for part 2!
Most of my plants are in clear pots without drainage and they are doing just fine!! You're an inspiration and I hope you continue to share tips and your learnings with all of us. Also, love the lazy pole, will be making one this weekend!
I had to watch this over two days, but I really enjoyed getting to see so much of your collection! I have almost entirely switched to clear pots now, though I mostly use plastic in ceramic cover pots. Big chunky roots are just as exciting to see as new leaves, right? I'm looking forward to part 2 and hearing your advice for caring for plants without drainage.
I love your Hoya and cacti and succulent collection. I think everyone have there own ways of growing plants. As long as they are growing well is the main thing.
You inspired me to grow some plants in no drainage last fall 😊 I chose to start with plants I was treating with systemic for thrips, because I didn't want any chance of the systemic going down the drain or anything. Since then, a lot of my props are in no drainage, aka in plastic cups lol
I'm on the exact opposite end of the spectrum where I'm growing more and more things mounted, in slotted orchid pots, super chunky peat free media, and Vanda baskets, haha
I keep plants in drain free pots. I’ve done it since i started collecting plants. None of them die because there is no drainage hole. Actually i have never killed any of my non drainage plants.
The fact that you have all these aroids growing so lush in Canada of all places, that takes skill and knowledge. I've started growing slowly in no drainage pots by watching you and it has been working. Kisses to Pudge. 💚

It’s funny how we repot thinking “oh you’re gonna be so happy” and then they throw a tantrum 😂 I grew some ferns with no drainage but once they outgrew those vessels I moved them to pots with drainage and they literally all croaked. I find alocasias to be much less finickier than ferns, but I’ve had some die back to a rhizome and go completely dormant during the winter. My Alocasia micholitziana Maxkowskii is one of those that *always* dies back during the winter ☹️
I’m at the Tradescantia part... it needs light the leaves will loose the green if you give it more light... but not direct sun 🙃 I have the discolor that’s pink and white and when it’s propped away from the sun it turns all green.
Just LOVE this but I do have questions! Do you find some plants need a little bit of time to acclimatise to no drainage or do they just not care? Are they any plants you'd avoid putting in no drainage pots? Last one, do you amend your substrate between no drainage pots and ones with drainage? Peace, love and F*** the haters.
Your Hoya calistophyla is gorgeous! Your plant collection is so great , love them all. I think you growing with this high quality in planter without drainage, shows how skilful you are in growing plants! Don't listen to any one who says otherwise! Where do you get your plastic for the D-shape poles? Thanks for sharing and happy growing.
I didn't realize until recently that I don't use pots the way other people do. I don't ever move my pots when the plants are happy. I don't understand people that bring all of their plants to sinks and let the substrate wash down their drains. I just bring a water bucket to them. Honestly I'm really good at gauging how much water each plant needs so I don't even ever take them out of the cache pot. I never thought about just doing away with the inner pot part. Huh.
I was already sold from your previous vids 🤩. I put a scindapsus in a no-drain glass vase (chunky soil/leca in bottom) a few weeks ago. So far happy.. a thick root is growing down into the leca. I just need some how-to guidance on watering?? Maybe it's obvious for everyone else?😅 but where can I learn more about watering in no-drainage?

Hey I just saw your fishbone cactus. I have one too! I think you might be under watering your fishbone based on the color and texture of the leaves. It looks like it's really on the dry side. Fishbone don't mind drying out but I actually am able to keep mine moist pretty constantly. Before I started getting a little heavier on the water it looked a lot like yours, but when I kicked it up I got super glossy leaves, and it CONSTANTLY puts out new fronds. I think mine started out like 6" tall in a 6" pot, but it's around five times the size now. Start off slowly, but try to water it more to see how it does.

I really want to try the no drainage thing with leca and aroid mix, i have some in pon and leca, love the look of it! 😊 Love your rhipsalis collection, they are suprisingly not easy to come by here in Singapore. You really have to look for them, and most they are big ones, o wanted to grow them from cuttings 😢
I can barely grow my plants with drainage, so I don't know how you do it! I've been experimenting with pon and it's really great for rooting stuff, but I'm still apprehensive about actually growing stuff in it. I had a terrible winter this year, like half of my collection got root rot and I've been rehabbing everything mostly in hydro. Scindapsuses are absolute bitches imo, all three of mine got dry rot and I've been losing my mind with my silvery ann (that I just can't let go because it's the prettiest one I've seen, so silvery!).
The pothos, I have mine outside in filtered sun and the varigation is insane. She is now green and vibrant neon yellow/green. Similar colours to a Brasil
About 75-80% of my houseplants are growing in a clear glass vase ever since I saw your pics on IG and copied you. It is very easy to maintain, my plants are all doing much better in this set up and I love seeing those juicy roots. The only downside for me is it’s a bit difficult to find these clear glass vase. I find most from MP and sometimes from thrift store. Where to you buy yours?
Hi zorayda!! 💖 I’m so happy no drainage is working for you. I get most of my vessels at value village (queensborough)! I also find that the Salvation Army in downtown new west usually has a good selection of clear vessels as well. Also don’t forget to check dollarama!

Why after watch your videos, I always have the necessity to buy more plants ‘cause I have the feeling that don’t have enough (even though don’t have more room at home)?? 🙈🙊
i repotted my newly bought ZZ plant and Snake plant into a pot without drainage. Did I made a mistake? I am contemplating to pull it out and put back in the plastic pot
Hello there. Excellent video and I want to learn more. I saw your lazy moss pole video but where is the other one you reference about the plastic sheeting and the “D shape.?” Intrigued!
Hi!! My lazy pole part two video comes out next week where I show how to use it with a non-netted plastic! And you can find the D-shaped moss pole tutorial on @youdontevengrowhere’s UA-cam channel ☺️
@@unplantparenthood Thank you so much! I looked and looked for that channel and I am not able to find it. I don’t know where my error is. Do you mind linking me the video? I appreciate it if you are able to take the time. If not, I understand.
So since you still use some soil do u still get those lil tiny brownish bugs that crawl in the soil? Idk they can b spring tale n some yea fungus gnats but ugh I hate it all so what or do u do anything to keep anything out of the soil?
Why are some people so judgy? Let the people grow with no drainage pots if they wish to. Let people do what they want! Me, personally, I don't fertilize my plants lol.
Alice is 👩⚖️ officially ✍🏼 Allen Also I find that I tend to gravitate more toward adding (coarse only) perlite to Pon as it REALLY improves aeration. I really don’t like how dense and fine lechuzapon brand makes their substrate. I much prefer a homemade pon since the individual substrates are usually a much coarser grade. But adding leca is also great too, as the round shape of it mixed in with pon also allows for more air pockets. 💖
You could use a no drainage pot that you can’t see through, but I wouldn’t recommend it, especially if you’re new to growing with no drainage. I like using clear vessels (usually I repurpose jars and food containers that would typically be thrown out) and putting them inside decorative planters. Clear is useful because it allows you to see what’s going on in the soil and if too much water is pooling at the bottom. You can also typically see when the substrate is dry by the color. Easier to monitor everything. The decorative planter blocks algae growth and looks really nice.
Teehee I laughed so hard once I really thought about it like we’re Litterally all playing plant god inside .doing experiments to see what they can withstand .
The people that hate are the ones that have a graveyard of overwatered plants in their backyard. If yours are thriving and clearly you know the soil mix and what they need so let the haters hate with their dead ass plants
Extrafloral nectaries (EFN)! Lots of info about it online- but since there are no ants in the house to keep the EFN at a minimum, it’s best to wash it away so it doesn’t burn through your leaves. That’s just my experience!
Unrelated to this video, but I want to buy some seeds from NS Tropicals but never grown anything from seed before. Do you have a video regarding this, or any recommendations for other videos or any advice? I haven't purchased because I'm afraid they'll just die 😥
Hi!! I’ve only grown anthurium from seed and I actually found it to be super easy! You can find my Instagram highlight here: instagram.com/s/aGlnaGxpZ2h0OjE3ODU5NjU5NTY0NTYyNDg4?story_media_id=2639691602383472502& Which seeds were you thinking of buying?
I’ve been experimenting more with semi hydro, no drainage since watching your videos, and I’m loving the results! Thanks for sharing 🌱 Also, the mystery plant at 1:41 looks like my juvenile P Bernardopazii narrow form… Possible ID?
You know the people who say you need drainage have absolutely no knowledge about how to maintain healthy soil lol. Just following whatever popular plant youtuber tells them
I tried to explain this to someone who came for me hard in a comment and I essentially said there’s so much more to substrate health that isn’t talked about that much, I also referenced the science of how terrariums work and she wasn’t having it 😆

Hi. New subscriber here. I love your glass pots. Where do you get them?
"Look at all those little tiny pee pees!"🤣😂😋
Why after watch your videos, I always have the necessity to buy more plants ‘cause I have the feeling that don’t have enough (even though don’t have more room at home)?? 🙈🙊
Haha I’m sorry! 😆 I think all of us get that urge to want more, but I bet your collection is perfect! ❤️
I just bought a bushy paradoxa minor! Let me know if you want to split it!
dog tail ripsalis 😂
Them Anthirium Vitterafolia roots look like phalaenopsis orchid roots BIG OLE CHONKY ROOTS!
udon noodle roots 🤤
@@unplantparenthood Lmao that was the second thing that came to my mind right before you said it!
Hi where did you buy your beautiful glass jars please?❤
i repotted my newly bought ZZ plant and Snake plant into a pot without drainage.

Thank you so much! I looked and looked for that channel and I am not able to find it. I don’t know where my error is. Do you mind linking me the video? I appreciate it if you are able to take the time. If not, I understand.

That's the video and channel she is referring to :)
From 6:35 to 7:30 it looks like pudge’s snout is a glitch in the matrix. 🤣
His favourite snack in the whole world is oxygen and his nose 🤣
46:56 omg! It's totally a dic! Hahahahha
I have lucky bamboo in water and it shoot some roots😊
So since you still use some soil do u still get those lil tiny brownish bugs that crawl in the soil? Idk they can b spring tale n some yea fungus gnats but ugh I hate it all so what or do u do anything to keep anything out of the soil?
Why are some people so judgy? Let the people grow with no drainage pots if they wish to. Let people do what they want! Me, personally, I don't fertilize my plants lol.
Can we call Alice Allen now? 😂 Also how do you feel about adding perlite into a pon mixture vs adding leca? Love you like always 🥰
Alice is 👩⚖️ officially ✍🏼 Allen
Also I find that I tend to gravitate more toward adding (coarse only) perlite to Pon as it REALLY improves aeration. I really don’t like how dense and fine lechuzapon brand makes their substrate. I much prefer a homemade pon since the individual substrates are usually a much coarser grade. But adding leca is also great too, as the round shape of it mixed in with pon also allows for more air pockets. 💖
could the Anthurium Hybrid be Dressleri x Mag ? the sinus & venation kinda resembles one to me, just a guess . 🔥 content again tho, as usual
When growing in no drainage is it a must to have them in clear canisters? Or is any no drainage pot okay?
You could use a no drainage pot that you can’t see through, but I wouldn’t recommend it, especially if you’re new to growing with no drainage. I like using clear vessels (usually I repurpose jars and food containers that would typically be thrown out) and putting them inside decorative planters. Clear is useful because it allows you to see what’s going on in the soil and if too much water is pooling at the bottom. You can also typically see when the substrate is dry by the color. Easier to monitor everything. The decorative planter blocks algae growth and looks really nice.
The plant with no name is an Agave Geminiflora!
Thank you mandie!!
Teehee I laughed so hard once I really thought about it like we’re Litterally all playing plant god inside .doing experiments to see what they can withstand .
The plants like “ha ha very funny” 😆😆
@@unplantparenthood lol untill it dies overnight and it’s not 💀💀💀😂
My alocasia silver dragon is dying in no drainage.😐
The people that hate are the ones that have a graveyard of overwatered plants in their backyard. If yours are thriving and clearly you know the soil mix and what they need so let the haters hate with their dead ass plants
Awesome video!!!!
I’m wondering where you bought your sprayer and what is it’s name? I couldn’t find one with a long hose.
I actually just got it from Lowe’s!
Don't worry, people are just salty when someone succeeds where they can't ;)
I ordered my first set of bare root plants. I want to try this method. What is in your chunky soil mix?
Hi Cheryl! You can find my soil mix in this video 🙂:

@@unplantparenthood Thank you. Love your videos and Sir Pudge!
What is it that you cleaned off the back of the Xanadu leaves?
You can find my Instagram highlight here:

Which seeds were you thinking of buying?
@@unplantparenthood crystal x mag! I'm debating how impatient I am because she also has seedlings available haha
I’ve been experimenting more with semi hydro, no drainage since watching your videos, and I’m loving the results! Thanks for sharing 🌱
Also, the mystery plant at 1:41 looks like my juvenile P Bernardopazii narrow form… Possible ID?
You know the people who say you need drainage have absolutely no knowledge about how to maintain healthy soil lol. Just following whatever popular plant youtuber tells them
I tried to explain this to someone who came for me hard in a comment and I essentially said there’s so much more to substrate health that isn’t talked about that much, I also referenced the science of how terrariums work and she wasn’t having it 😆
