This is one collectible Monster! The Seiko Monster market in Thailand is quite crazy. Many are going for over 1300-1500USD. Especially the older ones.
I'd usually always prefer stainless steel over black pvd. But surprisingly, especially for a Monster, I really like this. 👏

I disagree about the candybar cyclops though. I like the cyclops'. I feel they emphasize the tool-like feel of these watches.

I think it kinda fits with the monster aesthetic, like you say, in a way it really doesn't on a turtle. On a turtle, it adds this boxy tool dimension to a beautifully curved, almost organic steel case shape. On the monster, it fits that industrial, excessive feel of the watch. I quite like it on the monster, whereas I'd avoid the king turtles just for have having one.
I agree- I might buy the watch just because of the cyclops . As an older guy with failing eyes, I need a cyclops to see the date.
I actually think this looks better than the Dark Samurai and I'm a Sam fan.

I think this Monster suits the black treatment extremely well. That minute hand is a knock out.
the moment I tried it on.... Sometimes I think I'm not a fan of a watch and the moment I try it on...hmmm!

Get an F91, you'll sleep nights and save a truck load of cash.
It remind me of the older gen black monster with the gold crown. SRP583 i think. The SRPH13 dial is less busy compared to Black Night (SZEN) series. Well to make it short, 1 monster to make you itching for the other monster.
Cool looking watch but I find the silicone strap a little too narrow.

The bezel is concave to protect the crystal. It's the reason I bought my monster 👾

Seiko including on most of their watches since going more upmarket. Perhaps another way to differentiate from older models and give impression to consumers they are getting 'more' from the price hikes?
it's there so you can read the date in bad light and when a human starts getting in to their 50's reading glasses might be required
Supposedly this watch should I buy last time.. But I am not lucky that time doesn't have an offer... I bought only the other brother of seiko black series edition and solar seiko.

There are a handful of 140 year seikos which one are you talking about? I did a couple white ones already 140th
I can not decide between this Monster Black series or the 4th gen black dial with rubber strap SRPD27K1
One thing I don't like about this black edition is the strap...but that's can be easily change... Can't make my mind up

Thanks for the review, great photography and video. I like this but like you I'm not a fan of the candy bar cyclops, also I prefer the date at the six position if a date is needed. Having said all that I do like it. The hardlex crystal would be protected by the concave bezel to a degree but the cyclops looks like it's proud of the concave structure so is likely to get marked easier than the crystal.

I owned this gen monster and the crystal scratched before the magnifier. Eventually replaced it with double dome clear AR coated sapphire. It works well very for it's purpose as a back up for my dive computer. I agree day/date is useless, but it's nice if I wear it into the office.

No it is steel DLC coating on top.
Dear Seiko, stop making the black series limited edition. The price becomes too high, and the beauty of the black coating doesn't last more than couple years.
Careful pulling the crown out they have a tendency to detach completely.
