Welcome to Graz, home of the #GWagon!
And Today the most iconic #MercedesBenz, the #GClass, goes fully electric. This is the G580 - Unlike all other Mercedes EVs, the G had to still be a G in electric form. This is what we expect as customers. And this was the goal of the team here in Graz!
It’s powered by 4 individual electric motors, and a huge battery in the ladder chassis. And while it mostly retains its iconic looks, I need this car to be a real G. To do that it needs to tick 3 big boxes:
Is the design unadulterated?
Does it have the performance expected of it?
And can it ever off road as good as a combustion G?
That will decide how welcoming are G customers going to be to this new model!

That’s a huge range figure, which means it Conquers Schockl 14 TIMES!! Which would take 2 days.
Speaking of Off Roading level - it’s G Level Doing everything as much as the combustion cars but with an even greater wading depth! Plus unique driving MODES:
- The 360 spinning G Turn mode! All by clever torque management, the 2 motors on each side turning in opposite directions.
- G Steering, extreme turning radius for off roading
- OFF ROAD CRAWL - almost cruise control for off roading. Select the speed and you can leave the car to manage the diff locks and range etc all by itself!
And finally, even a sound experience for driving called “ G Roar”, which you’ll get a small preview of.
We will also check out the design vs just the normal G500. And the G63. And explore what future models could come. Today we will mainly show the G580 Edition 1, and the standard car in Sand plus the availability of the Manufaktur program.
Today we’re going to explore these questions and more, and we will look in detail at the design, to what’s under the skin, and some unique driving manoeuvres and modes in this version!

Can't they swap out the batteries and quad EV Motors with a larger Kwh battery and more powerful EV wheel motors? Lucid motors makes 670hp per wheel, Koenigsegg cylindrical "Black Matter" EV motors make over 800hp per wheel..imagine if Brabus had the balls to license Koenigsegg's tech and released a quad motor G and S and E and GT coupe/sedan with 800 times 4 = 3,200+hp tuned Brabus car with light weight full carbon widebody upgrades and big brake upgrades and much lighter wheel options? They probably could but as we all know already, they won't..

Having the aero cutout, raised hood and “G” logo on the doors exclusive to the electric seems lazy tbh. The normal G should have them as well.
It’s not lazy it’s intentional. MB wants to promote the electric G by adding features the regular G doesn’t offer.
The aero cutout actually helps the range on the E. On the ICE it'd still get 12 mpg so its not worth the design change lol
Great that they didn't change the exterior but one of my favorite things of the non electric version G Wagon is the Exhaust rumble .

Boy! Did M-B ever learn their lesson with the EQS, EQE and other similar. I think this new G580 will be a winner. Bravo G team ! Well done. Every feature and benefit is a big positive and I think you will sell as many as you can make. Realistically, I think a majority of buyer use it in the city, the range is very good. Im curious to see pricing, if it’s identical to the ICE version, I think buyers are going to lean towards EV version. Fans better get a deposit in soon.

I love the G63 especially 2019 and above; my question is why is it a ladder chassis? It is unable to tow, extremely heavy? Why? It doesn't carry a engine, the weight needs to be down lowered, why didn't they use a newer technology rather than using the same chasis as the gas g63? My prediction is that there are still some people who will buy this car, it will have a good market but never for too long.. Until a new chineese car or another brand that will produce a proper luxury suv. Although some people might think tesla cybertruck looks ugly but imagine a big truck with stainless steal body which is 1 meter longer, yet lighter with dual motor version and same weight in the tri motor

Over 3000kg of weight, what a crazy concept. When goes off-road with this, it will cause ground sinkage and get stuck in a minute. When off road, tires will get worn out. Useless on road, off road

3.1 Tonne edition 1 + 4 adults at 75 kilos each is 3.4 tonnes. So unless you're not carrying any luggage many people buying in the UK won't legally be able to drive it on a standard license. I am assuming the Edition 1 is without the spare wheel. Sounds like the EV age is going to either force the UK to alter licensing rules or legislation is going to end up prohibiting these vehicles in the UK if they get much heavier unless a driver has a commercial license.
This is an exception, EVs will get lighter because of the importance of efficiency and battery / charging tech improving. Ground-up EVs that are much bigger weigh a lot less, e.g. KIA EV9 a good spacious 7 seater is 2.5 tonne.
@@0-Will-0 I agree but it's a case of how close will they skirt the line before things actually get lighter. Will they even get that much lighter if they keep the packs as a removable item or are we going to end up in an iphone society where the vehicle is written off due to an integral pack altering the insurance repair costs so majorly.

Since the G is in the same price bracket as the DBX, I would definitely go for the Aston Martin. It has heaps more road presence and the interior is o so beautifully crafted.

The only good thing is it’s the first EV for a while that Mercedes haven’t made ugly but on the other hand I don’t think you will see one apart from outside a school in London. They’ll be lucky to get their R&D costs back.

I still wouldn't get it. EVs only make sense in small packages for city driving or extreme hypercars like the Rimac Nevera. And even in hyper cars, I'd still take the ICE cars first.
