The Scots were very clever in holding up the ball carrier and reducing quick ball from the base of the breakdown. They also double-teamed most tackles in the process. It meant the Scots had to tackle about three times more than Ireland. It stopped Ireland's quick ball and blunted their attack but it also meant the outcome was basically inevitable. Ireland left a load of tries on the pitch. Different day Ireland pull away and put on more points. Fair play to the Scots slowing us down but Ireland led from minute 12...

The one thing the Scots did very well was to make sure Kinghorn was covering van der Merwe. Not sure the highveld altitude is such a factor anymore. Most of the Boks, or at least half, play in Europe or Japan.
The biggest hurdle for the Boks is the first game. Having 10 of the starting 15 Irish playing together all year for Leinster has a massive impact on cohesion. ABs often benefitted from having so many from the Crusaders. Boks are notoriously slow starters in the international season for this very reason. Of course maybe Rassie has a way to mitigate this. 🤷‍♂️
