Smash for the general idea, pass since the sensor is still not protected at all which means in a crash the camera is dead anyway and getting a sensor alone is still expensive… Also I will need to buy one camera per quad because I cannot move it from quad to quad. Would be way more awesome if the whole GoPro construction would be a standalone module (like a naked GoPro, but flat like in the xDrei)
Thanks again Joshua for having us :) was super nice to do meet you and have a little chat about our company and stuff. To be honest i was ready to get at least a little roasted in your video but you seemed to rly enjoy flying it :)
GoPro pretty much doesn’t care about anything anymore. If you can’t capture the first 1000 people, you can’t capture the next 1 Mio. All they do nowadays is rely on supply chain distribution. Simply being available in every Best Buy. But companies like insta360 seem to care for the first 1000 people and when they show up in Best Buy’s, GoPro will act surprised and have a big issue. Classic dying cash cow behavior
An impressive drone to meet the problems of filming people close in. Another advantage of the weight in the UK and EU if I have it right you can legally fly over people which in terms of events is a big bonus in terms of insurance and legal paperwork.
"People" yes, "crowds" no. The footage of the quad over crowds next to the biker was definitely edging onto the "crowd" side of things and wouldn't be legal in the UK.
Absolute smash. I've wondered why this hasn't been a thing since I saw the first naked GoPro.... Glad this has finally been put forward to the community!
Well done! I was thinking about that problem, event thought about putting the mainboard in a frame but I doubt my solution would have been this elegant. Very nicely done 🎉
I think that’s brilliant! I’m not a fan of anything in a pusher configuration though. If everything else is equal they are still just way too loud. I have an aos Cine25 that I cut the prop guards off, inverted the motors to a normal position and it is half as loud as it was, flies better freestyle, and is currently my favorite quad to fly. Super stealthy and I can rip it around all day long without pissing off the neighbors. It’s a win for everyone. Great vid, JB. I’m going to look into this kit! 🔥
This as a pretty cool take on getting everything packed into a light weight setup! I think we are going to see sooooo much effort made toward things like this over the course of this year, and this one is pretty interesting. Only thing that makes me flinch a little is that ribbon cable crossing from the bottom of the top plate and up onto the sensor/lens assembly. I could totally see myself hitting something, knocking that cam back in the slide mount, and ripping it (if I am lucky) in two, lol. My luck though, I would totally shred it, lose the camera, and short the board on the carbon edges.
Exactly! In my comment here, I guess the durability of this naked GoPro system as a 2 - 5 out of 10. Sure, most professionals say the image quality of the GoPro is better than the 03 air unit. I've seen video with 03 better in some scenes, and GoPro better in others...in the same flight. 03 has to be a durability of 5 - 9 compared to the naked GoPro. We have long term experience with air units being robust as hell! Pro video pilots can see the comparison of 03 vs. GoPro, BUT! ... The customer doesn't get to see comparison videos side by side of the same scene. I think they'll be happy as a lark with the 03 image quality. 03 seems like it's so much easier to build with, so much cheaper (no Vista and GoPro), and durability is no comparison! Co0ol build though!!! :)
Your timing couldn't be better. I am looking to get into FPV and have been learning the sim while I debate what kind of quad I want o build. Well... recently decided I am leaning towards 3". This video just sealed the deal. Love the broken out goPro! Cool idea, RedKyte and thanks for another great video Joshua!
Build a four inch. They are the perfect mix of nimble/durable/performance/versatility. They can do a little bit of everything and are just small enough to get away with stuff you couldnt do with a five inch.
I think the agility and the safety aspect would be the selling points here. The difference in agility was obvious from the get-go and your missed drops proved the point. Impressive setup from RedKyte!
I know Knoxville mountain bike people if you ever want connection to try chasing. Chasing mountain bikers is basically my only goal in this hobby, but I haven't progressed very far. This is an interesting concept!
Is the ribbon cable from the sensor to the mainboard something they are building or reusing the original from GoPro? Selling the cable to extend the lens off the gopro would be the real game changer across the board. I've been waiting and hoping for some time for someone to offer a cable to be able to mount the mainboard away from the lens especially for some fixed wing planes.
Completely agree. I'ver been trying to do this type of build for a long time and the ribon cable is the only reason this thing works. The rest is pretty standard stuff.
Very interesting concept, My only concern would be any ingress of dirt, mud debris and heavy moisture/humidity. As this frame looks very anti water-proof-able.
That’s pretty wicked but I don’t feel the need for it, for my purposes my Runcam thumb and thumb pro get the job done, I am excited that they’re still working to make hd cameras in smaller and lighter packages
To get the GoPro main board laying down to reduce drag is a great idea 💡 Fired FPV did that some time ago... The rest of the concept I'm not sure... If I fly close to unprotected people I need propguards... If the people have helmets on I fly 5 or 7 inch. So what is the use case?
I'd really like to know if the X-Drei's naked GoPro would survive a crash because, in my (traumatic) experience, if I look at a naked GoPro the wrong way it'll break.
well i have crashed it a lot on Mountain bike trails, dirt, gravel and it was fine. i wouldnt send it inside a bando thou. concrete is not your friend :D
A split GoPro like that would be great for fixed wingers as well, we are at least as worried about excessive drag as multirotor pilots are. Why do all naked GoPros insist on presenting the maximum amount of surface area to the wind? Thanks for bringing that drone to our attention; strapping the whole craft to a Mini Crosswind would probably be preferable to a regular action camera ...
Vintage Maxell "Blown Away" Cassette Tape poster on their wall, you can't get more real than that. I had that poster 'back in the day' so I'm vintage myself...
This is pretty cool! Even if you made a 3.5 or 4 inch version of this just for a bit more power or efficiency. Heck this could be useful, even on a 5 inch frame. Lighter is always better.
The X-Drei is a kit that ONLY contains parts such as the frame and essential accessories. It DOES NOT include the GoPro NOR the Caddx Vista, and etc., which you would need to purchase yourself. The kit is about €120 Euros or about $130 USD. I commented this because I was confused if Redkyte is a drone manufacturer or a frame manufacturer because in my opinion, the video doesn't clarify that (no offence Joshua).
Good point! I do think they will sell drones if they don't already, as the motors on this one are custom OEM for RedKyte, which would be a bit silly if they didn't plan to sell it.
I’ve actually returned completely decased gopro guts to both best buy and gopro, neither gave me any hassle for it at all, but your mileage may vary :P
My chase bird is a 3"X-knight using only the caddx and no gopro. The RedKyte is a similar bird. Of course my vid quality is not as good. I still believe in having one camera only and recording on board. The comparison in this video is not apples to apples. This amazing quad does not have prop guards. Prop guards is what makes the flying awful but it's safe when you're up close into your subject, crowd or foliage. A Caddx-Gopro fusion into one lens mounted on a sub 250 screamer that has small prop guards is the ultimate chase setup. This is the bird I'll drop cash for next. . . thx for the vid Joshua!
I was just getting ready to pull apart a GoPro.... and then you show us this! Seems like this is obviously gonna stick. I'm still looking for prop guards but I'm sold on the CG alone.
By all means...just cause u thinks its Cool. Excellent review. Such a help on regards to *It comes down to what why and how your bird roots your content into ones own fingerprints/flyprints! Thanks JB...hope to meet ya someday
This would be cool for tight spaces or technical tracks but seems like it would leave you wanting more if it was an open track. 5” still feels like the best option for that imo
Loving it:) Did some jobs recently where my whoop's noise really was an issue. Also recently chased karts on a track and really had trouble keeping up with a 30 inch whoop. Not sure if I would dare flying without guards in some jobs but also good to have a faster, better flying an quieter quad in the bag. However........it does mean having to pay for another gopro instead of mounting one gopro on different quads.
I’d love to have something like this to mount in a 5 inch. I won’t buy anything heavier than a GoPro 8 and this would be awesome to mount onto a top plate.
Really neat quad and I'd love to fly one. The footage from it had too much blur imo. I've been flying the Cinebot30 (6S O3) since December and it flies WAY better than the one you were flying. I hover at around quarter throttle and it is not too terribly far off from my Aura 3.5 in terms of rip-ability but it certainly doesn't "love" it.
The blur comes from the ND filter and correct cinematic settings. You could just not use the filters, set GoPro to auto and get the sharp and stuttering GoPro look you’re after.
@@BimmerDan It is probably one of the the most athletic BnF cinewhoops out there and it will do tricks but if you are looking for a freestyle quad, there are better options for the same or less money.
I have a CineBot30 (6S O3) as well and it flies like what JB have demonstrated. Lots of propwash. I flown it with the 6S Speed Pizza 1200mah. My gopro top plate came right off as well (with no gopro attached). I have been trying to tune out the propwash but getting no wear.. I also have a backward drift in Angle
I feel like storing the mainboard in the quad isn't necessarily new, I mean Ummagawd had really similar designs years back around 2020. Sure, it wasn't a regular 3 inch, but taking the ducts off wouldn't have been tough.
I would still be concerned about working around people with this 3" RedKyte. Lightweight, Less noise for sure and maneuverability is truly welcome but those prop guards are peace of mind when working in close around clients.
You can just buy cheap prop-guards and put them on the quad weighing approximately 25g to make it safer around people. You can also put on slightly larger motors if you want.
@@josiahmos5880 I don't trust those prop guards to work at the speeds this thing is supposed to be flying at. They are more for helping a drone that's basically hovering bounce off of objects.
I can't wait for a full 5" freestyle frame to host a naked gopro with serious protection for the board and camera. I am thinking if we manage to soft mount the board, it will kill the vibrations on the gyro (for reelsteady) and make it crash resilient as the grommets will absorb shocks. The weight saved would be insane !
I can tell you being retired wakeboarder/skateboarder the noise level is huge. I can remember taking shots for skateboarder mag. Back in the day(the dog town days) just the shutter on a fast camera would mess you up. I'm sure that cinewoop would be horrible for the athlete. That's a game changer!!!
Wouldnt it be better to install a O3 Air unit instead and use that footage? The quality should be similar, the weight would be roughly the same, because you do not need the gopro. And you keep all the warranty.
Same as other comments here... I have the cinebot 30 and it flies way better than your does?? Doesn't have nearly the amount of prop wash yours Is displaying.
That would be amazing! For aerodynamic and durability purposes I have a few basher builds with the Hawkeye “naked” and the newer 20x20 and 30x30 “4k Split” from about a year ago. Okay quality footage and GyroFlow works flawlessly on it… if GoPro made this I think it will make A LOT of people super happy, me included! Sensor and lens wise they are not too dissimilar but GoPro has superior processing power (formatting, bitrate, frame rate). It makes sense, GoPro is 3-4X more expensive 😜 it would be cool if we had someone make something proper with a high performance chipset and 10bit colour. Imagine this build, but with a 25mm AIO, 25mm single board VTX, and single 25mm 5.3k 10bit camera board… it would be so neat and simple! And even lighter and more compact! One can dream 😜 but for now, this is actually a pretty good setup, and it has given me some ideas.
It's a pretty interesting idea indeed, but it's not the first. I've seen people doing similar stuff years ago... Either way, the issue is to use the same GoPro in more than one quad... Which you just can't. Anyway, thanks, Joshua! 😊 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I'm glad I watched this video. I just built my first drone it's a Gep RC CineLog 30... mine has a heavier VTX with DVR and the 650mah battery and it comes in at 249g... well I've been flying for a week and I started doing some acrobatics Loops & rolls and I noticed it doesn't like pulling out of Dives at all... I guess it's time to build the 5-inch freestyle😂..
Redkyte are doing pretty cool stuff. I also love their Insta360 drone build, the drone is so flat it disappears in the cams Blind spot. Would love to play with that raw footage.
I have one of those GEPRC CineBot 30 and it flies exactly how you have shown. Anyway to tune it out? Mine also broke the GoPro plate without a GoPro on it. Starting to feel like a bad buy
👍 Awesome!!! A really thought out purpose build filling a gap in the market filming quad a well flying quiet cinewhoop :) is it fast enough to film dirtbikes?
Lost me on the t mount... but anyway... how delicate is the board? where is the gyro ? but I do like the weight savings and compact Form factor... I'd certainly go 850 4s... use the FPV Cycle 16mm motors... 3700kv Guess you could swap the top plate between multiple quad. still has a very cinewhoop wobbles.
I slapped my GoPro hero 7 on my Darwin FPV baby ape with a power cable so I dont have to carry the gopro battery, it sit right at 245gram and I get around 6min of flight time on a 750 3S. Mind you I dont got the DJI system on it. The flight footage looks remarkable similar to my footage, although I can definitely tell the CG sits lower then on my derp setup. I like this idea but I got the feeling they could have made a 4inch under the 250gram with that setup and get some better flight characteristics.
Can Realsteady still be used with the gyro no longer being on the same plane as the sensor? I'm assuming you will need to use Gyroflow and set the camera angle in the settings to get it to work properly?
Wonder how it stacks up to a naked O3 3’‘ build. In good lighting conditions you might be able to skip the GoPro and record directly from the O3, saving even more weight.
I wonder can we get an O3 air unit stripped down to video Tx only..? That and if the GoPro cam module was protected a little better it would be a seriously interesting design. There's just so many little things to break in that module's mount that wouldn't be easy to replace :/
I suggest looking at jacuzzi jays video on the luma 30 you will be amazed at how well a Australian made cinewoop will fly it puts both these quads under pressure
It's cool, but most naked gopro users need to use it near talent, so I guess you would rather wanna use it in a godmode style frame with open ducts. This will impact flight performance a bit though. And a naked gopro is a bit expensive to only be able to attach it to only one quad.
Nice concept. Does the way of mounting the Gopro board kill the option to use the inbuilt image stabilizer or Gyroflow? - I guess the accel sensor is on the mainboard.
This is an awesome unicorn of a quad ....and I call it a unicorn because I have never seen this type of build and imo it totally kills cinewhoops....well the cinebot 30 at least lol....👍🏼
Joshua, the sweet new quad didn't have on board audio but that's ok cause i heard great reference and sync from the flight video and the audio from your mic yet flight 2 you used on board audio so there was basically nothing to reference them on ... if flight 2 had only mic audio there's your ab comparison because you instinctively fly the same path 9/10 times. Thankyou
Try all kinds of HQ 6 to 8 blade props and let the magic work. Very silent. Just remember to match motor kv and go down in prop size from the typical tri blade.
Can you do a comparison with the Flywoo Explorer LR4? I feel like Vista + Naked GoPro vs O3 is almost a stalemate, with the O3 being the much more durable solution at a cost of a few grams.
Our friend from medlindrone was actually featured by JB not too long ago. Open source head tracking for our quads! So much fun, it’s a completely different flying experience!!! I have a couple of bigger builds with the system… AND I even built a 75mm whoop like this with the Avatar system and it is such a cool experience! Definitely recommend!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Pretty amazing thinking and innovation by RedKyte! Nice going. Fresh and new! Something we rarely see anymore!!! :) BUT...I know the GoPro is supposedly better in image quality than the DJI03 air unit. But, DJI has updated the firmware on the 03 to improve it. I've seen footage where the 03 looks significantly better than the GoPro in certain scenes, and the GoPro looks better than the 03 in other scenes in the same flight. So, is all of this innovation and build effort worth it? This doesn't seem that easy to build, and there's a lot of dollars to lose with a crash of a GoPro so stripped down like this. Is the 03 air unit a worthy substitute for the overall durability we have all seen from DJI air units? This looks like a durability of somewhere around 2- 5, out of 10, in a big crash. Where DJI's 03 I'd guess would be a durability if around 5 - 9, out of 10, in the same crash. Other ends of the spectrum! Is the significantly improved video quality of the 03 gonna make it obviously simpler, and more durable, but also a better solution for the slightly less image quality? (it's such an easy build!) I'm not in the drone video business, but when comparing GoPro footage to 03 footage, I see places where 03 wins, and other places where GoPro wins...question is, how much better is GoPro for the extra hassle of the build and significantly less durability? Sure, you drone video business pilots can see the advantages in image quality GoPro gives you, BUT DOES THE CUSTOMER CARE? Since they AREN'T SEEING THE TWO IMAGE QUALITIES SIDE BY SIDE? 🤔🤨🤷
Smash or pass? Is this as big a deal as I think it is?
Smash for the general idea, pass since the sensor is still not protected at all which means in a crash the camera is dead anyway and getting a sensor alone is still expensive…
Also I will need to buy one camera per quad because I cannot move it from quad to quad.

You should have used the Avata 3.5 Axis upgrade.. WOW what an upgrade..
Mikey
Absolutely genius and the naked go pro is protected!!!
I pulled my GoPro down to do this on a much less sophisticated level - would buy this for sure
really cool. already bought a cinewhoop as a first drone. looks like a cool stacked modular drone.
We've full circle back to hero 6 mount that tommy released, was always the best option
I can tell you being retired wakeboarder/skateboarder the noise level is huge. I can remember taking
shots for skateboarder mag. Back in the day(the dog town days) just the shutter on a fast camera would mess you up. I'm sure that cinewoop would be horrible for the athlete. That's a game changer!!!
Same as the naked pocket 4k or 6k setups. It makes a lot of sense to streamline the size and shape as opposed to a giant sail of the front
Look at the umma95
I’m pretty new to this flying thing but this makes so much sense. If I we GoPro I would sell a raw version to this world of Fpv!!
Wouldnt it be better to install a O3 Air unit instead and use that footage? The quality should be similar, the weight would be roughly the same, because you do not need the gopro. And you keep all the warranty.
Yeah, I watched formula drift over the weekend and they were using DJI fpv for the instant replays and it did a good job.
i thought the same that's why i built a 2.5 inch 218 gram drone with the 03 when the 03 came out for me its fits this tool box perfect
Same as other comments here... I have the cinebot 30 and it flies way better than your does?? Doesn't have nearly the amount of prop wash yours Is displaying.
Very cool! How long until GoPro starts selling 30x30 mounted naked boards for applications like this?
That thing looks sick
It's a pretty interesting idea indeed, but it's not the first. I've seen people doing similar stuff years ago... Either way, the issue is to use the same GoPro in more than one quad... Which you just can't.
Anyway, thanks, Joshua! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
You will be able to do exactly that. 2.5inch version is coming very soon :)
@@dod.fpv_ Oh, sweet! Then things get much better! 😃
they should put some conformal coating on those gopro electronics
That's a dream build!!!
I guess it's time to build the 5-inch freestyle😂..
but when the exposed gopro lensor & lens breaks you have to buy a whole new one anyway because they don't sell parts, right?
amazing review! it would be great if you could include 60fpv video when you fly.
I freaking love it and need one . Great idea and this will change the action sports way of live feed
Interesting thing. It has its pros and cons. As for cinebot it definitely needs to work with. Props in may help a lot for the begining.
Love it amazing concept and design
3700kv
Guess you could swap the top plate between multiple quad.
still has a very cinewhoop wobbles.
Awesome drone and quality, build 2
OOOOOh so thats why they call it the bardwells yard, new to the channel
Welcome
Is the Gyro in the camera unit? Or is there no EIS involved? Or is this applied in post with reorienting the gyro data? Very interesting!
Great report!
Can Realsteady still be used with the gyro no longer being on the same plane as the sensor? I'm assuming you will need to use Gyroflow and set the camera angle in the settings to get it to work properly?
No struggle at all since the Gyro is located with the lens, not mainboard
Nice improvment!
Hey Jb looks like a pretty cool build i like it
Wonder how it stacks up to a naked O3 3’‘ build.
Only been rocking a drone like this for the past 3 years for my events in Canada 😂
The gyro is on the Lens, so you can mount it in whatever direction you want, gyroflow would always work. That's really neat!
Dude 😳
I think I'm in love
This is an awesome unicorn of a quad ....and I call it a unicorn because I have never seen this type of build and imo it totally kills cinewhoops....well the cinebot 30 at least lol....👍🏼
@5:45 not necessarily. GoPro Quik/ GoPro subscription you get 2 times a years “ no questions asked exchange”. Just for 50 dollar I believe. 🤙🏼
sweet. i dig it. Good job on that build
Thankyou
When comparing with the cinelog30, was there a gopro naked on the cinelog30 or a fullsize gopro? Thanks!
Cool but needs prop guards if buzzing people, then how does it handle crashes. Aside from that pretty sweet
Yep, wish i got this instead of a cinebot30😂. The cinebot aint too bad though
The person that figures out how to keep the power and speeds with less noise. Will be the game changers
Try all kinds of HQ 6 to 8 blade props and let the magic work. Very silent. Just remember to match motor kv and go down in prop size from the typical tri blade.
Great quad 👍✌️👌
But, the drone is not available with the GoPro attached? Just the frame kit?
But... what about the orientation of the GoPro Gyro?!? 🤔
Hi joshua, u are great as always. One question: why does the naked gopro footage look so blurry? is it a settings problem?
It has an ND filter on it which was a little too dark.
Is it just me or is the GoPro lens cross-threaded? I do like the design and idea behind this quad though.
Can you do a comparison with the Flywoo Explorer LR4?
I feel like Vista + Naked GoPro vs O3 is almost a stalemate, with the O3 being the much more durable solution at a cost of a few grams.
You are missing one important reason for existence of cinewhoops. They are ducted to prevent damage from props in indoor environments
In other news, i now know that yaw washout isn't just me and me cine. Jeez - saw that and got that instant "yep" feeling.
Could you not also add a servo that attaches to both the gopro lens and the DJI cam. Then you could use head tracking to actively change the uptilt.
Our friend from medlindrone was actually featured by JB not too long ago. Open source head tracking for our quads! So much fun, it’s a completely different flying experience!!!
I have a couple of bigger builds with the system…
AND
I even built a 75mm whoop like this with the Avatar system and it is such a cool experience!
Definitely recommend!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
@@lemonsquareFPV Ah I thought I recognized the footage. Yea brilliant idea for a quad.
Cool drone ❤❤❤
Pretty amazing thinking and innovation by RedKyte! Nice going. Fresh and new! Something we rarely see anymore!!! :)
BUT...I know the GoPro is supposedly better in image quality than the DJI03 air unit.
(it's such an easy build!)
I'm not in the drone video business, but when comparing GoPro footage to 03 footage, I see places where 03 wins, and other places where GoPro wins...question is, how much better is GoPro for the extra hassle of the build and significantly less durability? Sure, you drone video business pilots can see the advantages in image quality GoPro gives you, BUT DOES THE CUSTOMER CARE? Since they AREN'T SEEING THE TWO IMAGE QUALITIES SIDE BY SIDE? 🤔🤨🤷
I've seen similar build long time ago on Oscar Liang's page regarding naked GoPro and it's still there. Nothing new.
