@@bigdream_dreambig Yes, this gets to the heart of it. Behind Stannis' duty is unmistakeable ambition but it causes him immense psychological conflict because of how much of his identity is wrapped up in the idea of duty. He has to find ways to make his ambition fit with his duty in his own mind & the prophecy is one big way that he has done that. Well spotted, not so many folk see the real Stannis. They tend to get caught up in Donal Noye's description of Stannis, when he likens his character to the inflexibility of iron. Noye only knew Stannis as a younger man though, the years have amplified the bitterness in Stannis heart toward the brother (Robert) that, in truth, he saw as unworthy of everything he got. That's the key, Stannis really believes that HE (Stannis) should have been the older brother instead of Robert and that eats him up. The similarities we can draw to Jon are pretty obvious :D
It's not to prevent her from talking about the prophecy so much as it is to prevent her from flirting with Jaime - because the friend asked Maggy if she'd marry Jaime.
When he says your the queen mother he's not being sexist he's simply stating that the queen mother has no ruling authority now that the king is married and has a queen she is no longer queen regent who would have some power
Cersei doesn't care how her official status changes. She even shouts "I am the queen!" soon, which is incorrect and also brings to mind What Tywin once said to Joffrey in 3-10 or 4-1.
Kevan Lannister may not be another Tywin but he was shown to be pretty much his right hand man for a reason and I don't think that reason was that he simply had the right last name. The dude has a spine and is smart enough that Tywin kept him close, trusted him and valued his advice, and Cersei is too stupid to realize that she needs people like him instead of the bunch of dumbasses she likes to have around her. Stannis isn't angry Jon turns down his offer, and is such a big fan of Jon beheading Janos Slynt, because a *huge* thing with Stannis, as odd as it is given his fanatical devotion to Melisandre and the Lord of Light, is honor. He is fiercely and stubbornly honorable - just like Jon, and just like Ned Stark. He respects and admires Jon for sticking to his oath to the Night's Watch, and for defending the honor of the position of Lord Commander of the Night's Watch.
I agree, though the exact word would be duty. Stannis as well as Daenerys, is obsessed with duty. Everything he has done since the beginning of the series is because he knew he was Robert's heir, and that weight has carried him on every decision he's made. Using a shadow to kill his brother and the castellan of Storm's End. That wasn't very honorable, right? But he did all of that, and even more questionable things, because he considered them necessary, because it was his duty as the rightful king of Westeros.

6:20 “She’s gonna guilt trip him like it was his fault.” Jaime released Tyrion. Tyrion killed Tywin. It seems pretty obvious to me Jaime is, at least partially, at fault for Tywin being dead.
You can guilt trip on things they are guilty for that's how it works. You think he knew tyrion would kill his father? You think jamie isn't feeling guilty now about releasing him? Using that guilt to make him feel worse is what guilt tripping is.
The problem with that logic starts flawed because Tyrion was only in need to be released because of Cersei and Tywin, so without that, there would be no need to release him, so we can say it's Cersei's fault.
I think Cersei was hinting there that she suspected Jamie of helping Tyrion escape, because she knew Jamie was the only one in the family who loved Tyrion and whom Tyrion loved back. Maybe she's trying to get him to admit to it? I'm not sure.
This is the season where they mostly run out of books and the plot... changes, quite a bit. Especially the Sansa plotline. I really do recommend reading the books, it adds so much. And you learn to really hate and pity Cersei in particular when you get to see her point of view chapters - she's utterly deluded.
the problem is not that there is no bock material left, the problem is that they made the choice to completely abandon the remaining book material in favor of making up their own stuff. Re: Timing As the seasons went on they started just doing time jumps instead of pacing out communication over episodes. It didn’t mean travel and communication was faster, just that they stopped believing the audience was patient enough/their storytelling was strong enough to pace it all out correctly.
They were doing that since episode 1 of the first season. I notice on a rewatch. People just weren't that nitpicky yet because the show wasn't that big.
@@MatiZ815 Fair enough. I remember stuff from the first two seasons where someone would be traveling for an entire (or multiple) episodes, or a message would be sent in one episode and only show up after a major time-passing event or an episode later. That said, I was prompted because she said “that was fast” about a message arriving, and I know people got SUPER confused/picky/whatever about timing in the last season,
@@AnotherScribbler Yes, there are times where journeys and messages take place over multiple episodes but there is also a bunch of time skips. For example, when the king travels from King's Landing to Winterfell from scene to scene or when Catelyn goes to the capitol within one episode. There's also Littlefinger bouncing around Westeros in season 2. As for letters, the most notable example is the call for Robb Stark to bend the knee to the new king. In one scene it's written by Sansa and in the next one he already has the letter.
Also, HBO likes to start cutting funding and letting hit shows die off midway through their life cycle. That way, they can dump money into new shows to keep people subscribed after the old show ends. So they almost certainly felt tons of pressure from execs to cut runtime and cut the number of episodes starting around this season.

Daenerys is starting to learn the difference between conquering and ruling. It’s easier to conquer because the goal or outcome is clearer. But when it comes to ruling it’s not so black and white. The ruler be careful of not over reaching their power and listening to the needs and wants of the people. Daenerys is starting to over reach the extent of her power and believing that she can do no wrong and define what is right and wrong
2 things 1: I think *everyone* got goosebumps when Milessandra said Ygretts catchphrase to Jon 2: this is obvs situational as is all fighting, but spears are traditionally the most versatile and flexible of the medieval weapons. Game of Thrones is like the meme "How much sawdust can you put in a Rice Crispy treat before people start to notice", there's always been sawdust in the show, it's just gradually been increasing over time and it wasn't until season 5 that it became so blatant.
Daenerys' bloodlust begins to seep through the cracks, something I noticed on my first watch through. She tries to hide under the veil of "justice", but she's always loved watching people die and had no remorse about it. She feels entitled to the throne because she was always told she was born to it, and she doesn't care who she has to step on to get it. She's told that she's loved and awaited, so she thinks she's a savior, but when given the opportunity to show what kind of ruler she'll be, she always chooses bloodshed.
I don't think that is very accurate. She grew up being told their family was special, but her abusive and controlling brother was the one who was supposed to be the one in line for the throne most of her life.
@@williamroper5422 Maybe not her while life, but ever since his death. She feels entitled and anyone who says otherwise brings out her wrath. It doesn't take much. She likes being praised, but not questioned.

While this wasn't technically a cold open as it came after the intro song, but that flashback felt very much like a cold open. So was this meant to be the end of Cersei or was it a red herring?

Season 5 is trash. People who were not fanboying like so many hipsters and morons out there, immediately noticed the huge downfall in dialogue, plotlines and general quality of the show. GoT died with Tywin Lannister.
Remember the Snow Winterfell scene and Littlefinger asked Sansa " What do we do to the people who hurt the ones we love ?" Sansa smiles..........."When you know what a person wants... you know how to move them"" Sansa wants Family, Home and safety.
I always enjoy your reactions to GOT. If I say anything more I'm liable to venture into spoiler territory. Sitting on pins and needles to see your reaction to the rest of season 5.
How is calling Cersei the "queen mother" sexist? She's the mother of the king. That's her title. Cersei has no legitimate claim to the throne. It's the same with Prince Philip. Despite being married to Queen Elizabeth, he would have never become king.
I don't think it's the title so much as the dismissal. If you compare how people treat her compared to how they treated her father there is a pretty noticeable difference. On the other hand her father was actually good at running things.
It's more the implication that Cersei is "nothing more but..." is loaded with sexism that is leveled toward women. Even if he's right to be angry at what she's doing and reminding her of her place that way was petty.
@@banonKING It's indeed that, reminding her of her place. She acts like she is the queen and ruler. Not only is she not that, there is a queen now who has more right to act as a ruler. Telling her that she is overstepping her bounds is not sexist at all, though it could be petty.
Saying she's the "Queen Mother [and] nothing more" implies that such a lofty title means nothing. Women in these kinds of ancient societies are treated like property, nothing important. That's why when Robert died she didn't remain the queen.
Natalie of the Many Shirts is pretty insightful and right to be creeped out by Littlefinger and the Red Witch. I look forward to seeing her responses to them in over the next two seasons.

In the book, young Cersei kills her friend after visiting Magy the Frog, to prevent her from talking about her prophecy.
Cersei is somehow a worse person in the books than in the show. Remember what she does to Taena of Myr?
@@karlwilker579 what she did? And who she is?
@@udebrl In the books Cersei basically uses her power as queen to rape another woman, a "friend" named Taena of Myr, out of spite and jealousy.
It's not to prevent her from talking about the prophecy so much as it is to prevent her from flirting with Jaime - because the friend asked Maggy if she'd marry Jaime.
@@karlwilker579 and Ramsay is worse when I tell people this they can’t believe it
When he says your the queen mother he's not being sexist he's simply stating that the queen mother has no ruling authority now that the king is married and has a queen she is no longer queen regent who would have some power
It was quite obvious, don't know why she said it
Cersei doesn't care how her official status changes. She even shouts "I am the queen!" soon, which is incorrect and also brings to mind What Tywin once said to Joffrey in 3-10 or 4-1.
Was just about to say something about this. I hate when people cry sexism for no reason lol
And yeah, even if the concept itself is kind of sexist, he wasn't being sexist when he pointed out that Cersei is just the Queen Mother, he just reminded her that she had no official power and was out of her depth.

"Listen, I know you're mourning honey and your hair is shorter now, but it's not Myrcella's fault..." Natalie you never fail to make me laugh, thank you!

- Honestly, I love the scenes with some combination of Olenna, Margaery, and Cersei.
- Stannis held/holds the Starks in VERY high regard. He's pretty respectful of Jon's decision.
When I first watched this series I always thought of Varys and Littlefinger playing a game of chess with each other about who's going to be in control of the throne. Maybe not directly as king but the right hand man of who they can convince/manipulate to do as they want. Only difference is Varys wants what's best for the kingdom and Littlefinger just wants what's best for him

6:20 “She’s gonna guilt trip him like it was his fault.”
Jaime released Tyrion.
There is a whole book of sansa in the vale and pretty clear setup with sweetrobin, the royces, harry the heir and the lords declarant. They discarded it all.
@@f_f_f_8142 It's too bad at this point GRRM had deluded himself that he could actually finish the books and instead dove in to helping with the screen writing.
@@njebei no he made the right choice. He has said D&D didn’t listen to what he told them anyway, which I think was the real reason he left the show. For example in season 4 he wrote the episode The Lion and the Rose, and in it he foreshadowed Jaime’s journey through the Riverlands, revealed Joffrey was responsible for the cats paw, and setup Jeyne Poole to marry Ramsay. D&D cut all of that out, cus that’s not where they wanted to go with it. So not even GRRM could save the show
Season 6 still had a lot of stuff that was shared from the unpublished Winds of Winter, since a good chunk of that book is complete.
They were nowhere near running out of books, this was when they started ignoring them.
My favorite thing about GoT was watching the show with new people and seeing their reactions. This series is giving me a little taste of that again. Subscribed. Now I can go back and watch some of your older vids while I wait for the next eps.

Re: Timing
As the seasons went on they started just doing time jumps instead of pacing out communication over episodes.
@@cjd2889 What? Of one thing I'm certain: HBO DIDN'T want GoT to end or to cut the episodes.

Daenerys is starting to learn the difference between conquering and ruling. It’s easier to conquer because the goal or outcome is clearer. But when it comes to ruling it’s not so black and white. The ruler be careful of not over reaching their power and listening to the needs and wants of the people.

Dark doesn't begin to describe how the season wraps up, and plunges deep into the next. You have every inkling about Sansa marrying Ramsay...
Well he could have become king of Greece.
Lol you're so oblivious to the intrigue going on unless they beat you over the head with it. Love it.
