      +Sam Watts I just bought the Bass AmPlug 2 (this is version 1 in the video but there is 2 now) this morning, only messed about with it for 15mins but I can confirm you get a lot of bang for your buck. I haven't plugged it into a amp or anything as yet, but via headphones it's nice and loud. It takes 2x AAA Batteries for it's power, from what I read online that should give you 17 hours of play time but we will see.

  • @CarlCampbell
    @CarlCampbell 8 років тому

    He does mention that you can achieve Distortion or Crunch with it in the video. I bought mine a week ago and IMHO you can't really get anything too 'meaty' out of it. Consider you only have a volume and tone knob and then three Gain modes (hi, mid, low) there's not really too much to play around with in terms of sound modelling beyound the base sound of your, uhm... bass :)

    • @joeye330
      @joeye330 8 років тому

      is it still worth the money though? I mostly play classic rock and punk and would like a punchy sound (with the occasional overdrive/high gain)

    • @CarlCampbell
      @CarlCampbell 8 років тому

      I only ever use it on high gain. Mid and low gain modes are barely audible to me and I'm using Sennheiser HD-25 sp headphones so go figure... You won't get any effects out of the pocket amp, so to speak. Just a single band EQ.

    I bought one to play where I don't have an amp, but unfortunely the sound is garbage with a lot of noise, and you can't equalize it.
    I prefer use a pédal preamp with headphone out and aux in, if I have a powersocket or if runs on batteries.
    But as a warmup amp, or to practice like in the nature, the amplug is the handiest, but at home, you ears will want something better.

    • @AdamRainStopper
      @AdamRainStopper 9 років тому +7

      I actually did just that, at a place my friends and I refer to as "the falls" where we all used to go after (or during) school to get wasted. I went down there in the summer of 2010 on a day when there were lots of people hanging out drinking and smoking pot, and brought my tele, a compression pedal, and my amplug-AC30, AND a CD player and two CD's with dry mixes of all my drums. I plugged the car power supply for the CD player into the lighter socket, plugged the output into the aux-in of the amplug, plugged my guitar into the compression pedal and plugged the 1/4" plug of the amplug into the output of that (allows for both more wiggle-room between me and the amplug and compresses and boost the signal). Then I ran a regular audio cable from the headphone out of the amplug into the car stereo, hit play on the drum-track CD's, and played and sang all my songs "live" at the falls for all the stoned and drunk kids. They threw change and $1 bills in my empty water-jug. They even did a little slam-dancing until one kid fell in the water. He was ok..... Sorry, the short answer, which other people already have given you, is yes, you can. I just saw that and it put a big smile on my face and I wanted to tell the story.=)

      Adam Rainstopper well that's just proves the point, namely - this little thing is definitely worth buying :D

    • @AdamRainStopper
      @AdamRainStopper 9 років тому

      Ivan Kalinin Hell yes it is! I actually sometimes use the AC30 one to record bass direct. "My bass tone" is essentially very clean, new set of pro-steels, played usually with a pick, I like a very articulate bright sound. Helps it stand out as separate and distinct from my mid-heavy, distorted guitars. I'll probably buy the new amplug 2 bass model since everyone in the known universe gives me guitar center gift-cards for christmas. One thing though, the guitar models have certain built-in effects, delay for the "lead" model, and some other stuff on the others.....I think the bass model should have built-in compression, but again, it's not like I can't plug my instrument into my compression pedal and the amplug into the output of the pedal. Overall, these things are a really nice writing tool, and good for certain recording applications too, as well as being the first thing I reach for to pass the time during a power-outage.

      what do you suggest? I really like the sound and capability of this device, but the construction is very weak, and plug in sockets are made of shitty plastic - should be metal!!! I already broke 2 of these by accident when handling my bass, so I would like to get one made of proper/stronger materials. If you have suggestion for me write to astolfa@gmail.com

    Warum macht ausgerechnet Victor Wooten Werbung für diese Rauschteile? Da gibt es bessere, die besser zu seinem Fodera passen...

    There is no doubt that Victor Wooten is one of the top bass players on the planet but holy shit. Is there anything he plays that does NOT involve slap bass at some point? It really gets monotonous! It's like having to hear Eddie Van Halen do NOTHING but a half hour finger tapping solo. Sure Eddie is a guitar god but he uses that in MODERATION. If Eddie had used finger tapping consistently for the ENTIRE song on EVERY song like Victor does with slap bass, people would have got really sick of it really fast. Slap bass really is the apitomy or finger tapping in the world of bass. I'm not taking away from Victor's talent any more than I would from Eddie Van Halen but holy shit! Even Eddie used restraint and moderation to compose some songs that actually had some diverse sounds.

      well... when you literally single handedly redefine how people approach slap bass, i think you have a right to slap until the sun burns out. So you probably also said, "geesh!...Jaco i KNOW youre amazing but do you have to play that bridge pickup finger style allll the time???..." Come on guy. Youre better than this...

      Slap bass is awesome dude. Playing with just finger gets boring, so slap bass gives the bass that extra skill level. That's why victor probably does it.

      I wouldn't ever compare slap bass to finger tapping. The way I see it is that slap is one of the four most common ways to play bass: fingering, picking, plucking and slapping. That means, for me, that you can do that an entire song.
      Now, finger tapping is a technique that you can use mostly for solos and special licks or riffs, but not something that belongs to the way you're playing the instrument. Again, this is how I see it.

      He seems excellent but like you say, as soon as i heard the slapping and twiddling i wanted him to shut up, endless drivvel like blues guitarists, Geddy Lee is the greatest bass player, ok he can't slap, so what, his creativity is unparalleled

    He totally uses this by giving them to his students at the camps. I love Victor Wooten but I feel this was a totally disingenuous plug for this item.
