  • I've figured out how to make the perfect Belgian waffle from home! Since I moved to Belgium, my new favourite treat has been the Liege Waffle. I find myself often with one in my hand: I'm hooked. What makes them so delicious? Something so simple yet, if done right, so perfect.
After some research, I think I found the perfect recipe that encapsulates everything special about the Belgian waffle. Everything from the texture to the taste. This one even perfectly blends the pearl sugar for a magnificent bite.

    Recipe for 5 waffles:
For exactly what I made, here is what I used:
1/2 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast (5-6 grams)
    2 & 1/4 teaspoons white sugar (9.5g)
    1/4 cup & 2 tablespoons lukewarm milk (90ml)
    1.5 eggs
    1/2 cup melted butter (113.5g)
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract (4 g)
    1 & 1/2 cups flour (180g)
    1/4 teaspoon salt (1.5g)
    3/4 cup pearl sugar (150g)
This is the waffle iron I have: Tristar WF-2195 Waffle iron
This video is inspired by this recipe: www.allrecipes.com/recipe/213...

This is a brilliant base recipe. To make it emulate the waffles found in food trucks in Brussels and Liege, add brown sugar to either the top or both the top and bottom of the batter when putting it into the waffle maker. This step gives it the golden brown color and that crunchy sugary shell you expect from an authentic Belgian waffle.

ANTI-CHEF yeah I can totally see the progress you’re making in the kitchen, and it’s so much fun to watch! I’ve never made Belgian waffles myself, but my dad got a stove top waffle iron maker thingy for christmas and he’s been boasting about how amazing his waffles are (haven’t tried his yet). A Belgian waffle competition might go down soon in the Thijssen household, as my dad and I never say no to a little kitchen show down. I’ll keep you posted!

This recipe is the real deal! Crunchy crust, chewy crumb and loads of flavour... just like the host said, you won’t need any toppings to enjoy these beauties (although they are great with some whipped cream, too!).

Yo! Been a while. I went back to this video and recipe today. Found Swedish Pearl sugar in the grocery store, it's smaller, the size of pretzel salt, but it worked ins pinch. Also, instant yeast worked just fine 👍🏻

I appreciate the effort you put into editing this video. You have the only Belgium waffle recipe that I think is legit on UA-cam. I didn't look very hard, but that's not important.
Awesome recipe, subscribing to your channel

Thanks so much Chris! Lemme know if you try this out, I’ve compared it to the real Belgian Liège waffles in Brussels, and I find it very, very close!

Followed exactly and it turned out great. Thanks.
Recommendation: More standardized way of writing the measurement as people are sometimes confused (based on some comments).
I will try to reduce the pearl sugar to 1/2 cup next time.

I never knew about these type of waffles until I saw them at Costco. OMG, what the hell waffle have we been serving up prior to this guy. This is absolutely one of the best waffles out there, and now I can make it whenever Costco cells out of these bad boys. Thanks

Thanks for the recipe! We just returned from Belgium and was hoping I could find a good recipe for the Liege Waffles. I will try it out as soon as I get some Belgian pearl sugar.

The pearl sugar adds quite a bit to this. It would work without them, but I’d recommended getting it. Amazon has it, if you’re not in Europe. These taste the same as the deliciousness over here in Belgium!
