Even if more moves are needed, those smaller additions they’ve made so far are really intriguing. Wouldn’t should me at all if one of those arms pitch themselves into a significant role by the end of the year
I have a good feeling about Robertson that we received in the O'Neill trade. He was working on a "sweeper,"and if successful, he may be a better option for the 7th and 8th than Gio Gallegos. I'm afraid we've seen the best from Gio, and I'm hoping these new arms will be his replacement.
Thing about Hader for me is that he has a QO attached, which means that A he is gonna cost a ton and B lose the cardinals a third rounder which sucks after losing the second rounder to Gray y’know?
I am seeing us as 86/90 wins. Like i have said multiple time and i hate to say it because i love the guy. Adam killed us last year, You take his starts and give them to someone else and we would have had a way better season.
Not gonna get 86 -90 wins with this pitching staff .. Mo still won't sign another sp , the pen hasn't improved much.. I don't get what they see in Gio.. He should get traded but were stuck with him in 24..
I agree the whole regime needs to go, but that's not going to happen this year. For them to go off as winners or lovers is a now problem. I don't really hate the moves they have made, especially getting Gray. A real pitching coach could fix pitchers like Duncan did for Carpenter. At 29, I believe Bieber (or even a Hudson) can be fixed and also gotten easier than the rest who will be near misses as they go elsewhere. I hope taking this on will put Clase in the trade to make it happen. We have roster clog we have so many we can trade without hurting our offense. I love Goldschmidt, but the time to win with him and Arenado is NOW. If being beat in the first round is better than not making the playoffs, do nothing. Trade for another starter and closer, then we get closer until a new regime takes over or we fade to being the St Louis Royals.
Are more moves needed ? You bet, we have players on our current team that we need to figure out a role for. The Cardinals are going to have to decide what they are going to do with: Baker, Palacios, Burleson, Carlson, Gorman, Edman, Nootbaar, and Donovan. What about our current pitchers ? Cardinals need to decide who stays and who goes!
Deciding what to do with Baker isn't exactly a priority, he's not a prospect, he's organizational depth and will continue to be. There's no decision needed on most of the names here.
What about Palacios ? Who plays Left? Who plays center? Who plays 2nd base? Who is DH ? Sorry I disagree, I think lack of priority is what got the Cardinals in the postion they were in last year thinking that they had everything solved at pitching.@@bschaeffer12
You talk about the bullpen and its failure last year and the presumption is that the Cards need new parts. An alternative view would be the parts were never intelligently deployed by the horrible decisions of the manager. Based on Oli’s decisions on managing the defense, managing base running, managing the lineup, managing the bullpen, etc., why not the world do you think 2024 will be any better?
I think your alternative view is wrong so that's why I don't talk about it. You're crazy to blame managing over players on last year's team. That's my view.
I'll never root for a losing season, I'm too competitive for that, but if we fail to make the playoffs again I won't be sad about it. Unfortunately, until the whole front office gets a nuclear wakeup call this pattern of pathetic moves will continue, we're headed for the 90's all over again.
Ok, we've got some CRAZIES here. MATZ is the ONLY ONE who delivered No. 2 type stats. last year - even if it was interrupted. Mikolas, Gibson & Lynn ALL w/ ERAs North of 4.73.....NONE Of those 3 should be your No. 2!!!! Matz? Maybe. At least when he was spun back to SP over his final 2 1/2 Months he had a 2.45 ERA, 0.92 WHIP.....Like HALF the R's of what the other 3 were giving up!!!!!
People need to stop going to cards games at busch. As long as the seats are filled DeWitt isn't going to make any drastic changes to improve this ball club.. The front office didn't learn their mistakes from last year. I like the sonny gray signing but we need another top-notch sp #2 ,atleast 2 more dominant pitchers in the pen. We're not gonna go deep in the post season with the pitching we have.. Miles ,Gibson and Lynn are 35, 36 and 36 years old. Miles ,matz isn't the answer either. I'm hoping for the best but I don't see a successful 24.😂😂😂😂
I have a reputation for burning hard on the Cards Front Office. And this is bullshit. The "Starters Will Go Deeper and SHAZAM, the pen will be the shit." What? Are they really gonna roll with that? You think 1 very good starter is a 20+ win improvement? Sorry, I'm not feeling it.
I don’t think they trade for anyone like Cease, Luzardo, or Gilbert. It’s just not viable considering we’d have to give up major league position players to get them. I think the Angels are a good team to trade with for starters. Still wondering who they sign for the bullpen if anyone at all.
Thompson could be a legit bullpen arm. He’s so effective when his fastball is up

Def need another top notch starter. You have to figure in an injury to somebody in the rotation sometime during the season. Plan ahead.
Name you missed Andre Granillo could make a impact

Another idea........EVENTUALLY, the former Cub (Contreras) worked for the Cardinals.......could a Stroman as the No. 2 work?
If the bullpen stays as it is, we are looking at a repeat of 2023.

They will try to extend Goldschmidt, but either way we need to see if Burleson or Baker or even Walker can play first after Goldschmidt leaves.

Big question are the cardinals going get anything done with bullpen they need good pitching
It's a fair question
Listen to this by Schaeffer and find myself yelling - No!!! No Pallante!!!!
Oh we'll see. I didn't say it was set in stone. I do think he can do better than last year.

Do you think in the future there is room for Cooper Hjerpe as a reliever, or did I miss you talking about him?
Certainly in the future. I think 2024 is too early to expect him to rise to MLB

I totally agree with you, it does remind me of the 90's ! I will never root for a team like the Cubs or Red Sox that tank for 5 years to get a winner.

Cheapo Dewitt is done. This team is only marginally better than last year.
“The Cardinals have replenished the starting rotation. Uh, no.
It's just a fact. Whether it's with improved players or not, we'll see. But on paper, it is.
I have a reputation for burning hard on the Cards Front Office.

I DESPISE PALLANTE!!! SO DON'T WANT HIM IN THE 'PEN!!!!!
That's a bit harsh
Liberatore needs be cut he can’t get hitters out his numbers shows he’s not good
I think it's premature to make that call, for sure.
He's a LOT BETTER than Pallante. HATE PALLANTE!!
@@KevinHuffman-m6h Liberatore can’t get hitters out walk batters his numbers in St. Louis are not great
