My grandfather was part of the old knothole gang. We loved listening to and watching the Cardinals together. He was in real bad heath in 2011. I kept him up to date as best I could to his understanding. He passed in July. And we somehow won it all that year. I bought the championship dvd they came out with after that. I remember like it was yesterday watching Game 6 in Nashville and when Freese hit that Home Run, I was screaming “IM GOING TO ST. LOUIS IM GOING TO ST. LOUIS!!” I had a ticket for Game 7! What a ride coming into Downtown from Illinois it was! Seeing that Arch on the way was something I’ll never forget! I’ve yet to go to another greater epic game than that Game 7 2011 World Series! I could hardly sleep in that Caseyville Motel 6!!😂
My family has roots from Southern Illinois and later the St. Louis region, which is why when I was introduced to the game of baseball, I was introduced to the Cardinals. As I grew up and my interests in sports wavered between baseball and other sports, I've come to realize that the St. Louis ballclub would be my favorite regardless. They are the second most successful franchise in MLB history, and the way they have achieved that is far different from the rest. When you look at all the successful eras of the franchise, there is a standout group of owners/managers and players where the personalities of these guys are seemingly larger than life. There is just a different ethos to this team and I'm 100% behind it.

2011 Cardinals: overcome 10.5 games out in September to get in 2021: after trailing 4 games and a 2-5 start to September the Cardinals won 11 in a row to take the 2nd spot YEAH 10 years later same story repeats itself
Final Update: Cards won 17 games in a row as of 9/28 to clinch the second NL wild card berth. Unfortunately a loss to the Brewers ended the winning streak. This was later followed by a loss to the Dodgers in the wild card game.
Don’t count on it. There are only about 3 position players on this team that could start for the 2011 team. As far as the pitching staff is concerned, the number 3 starter on the 2011 team would be the ace of this year’s team, and the only guy in this year’s bullpen that would have a spot in the 2011 bullpen is Helsley. The 2011 team also had Tony LaRussa as manager. Comparing LaRussa to Marmol is like comparing Muhammad Ali to Tex Cobb.
I might have been in grade school when the cardinals won the world series (4th grade I think) but I distinctly remember the second to last game when Freeze hit that homer. I'll never forget that world series, "We will see you tomorrow night."

Furcal was key in that championship run. The "happy flight" and his never give up attitude became infectious. I strongly believe that without him the 2011 championship wouldn't have happened.
Since I work at Busch Stadium, the first time I watched it was at a game delayed by rain. We lost that June game to the Pirates. I was very frustrated by the team. Little did I know we would end up putting a 17 game winning streak and get to the postseason.
All during the 2011 season, the Brewers, particularly Nyger Morgan were running their mouths. This made destroying Milwaukee in the NLCS even sweeter. In fact, I got more enjoyment from winning the NLCS and ruining the Brewers season than I got from winning the World Series.
2011 was a hell of a year for the Redbirds. But the one thing I love is my Giants came back in 2012 to go head to head against these Redbirds, in this fierce rivalry over the years. And again in 2014. Hope we can get together again soon in the postseason so the Giants can continue that dominance in the postseason against the Redbirds. Go Giants!!
The movie that came with the DVD set was a better production I think, with more from each team, but this was good also. Game 6 was the most exciting game in my lifetime. I saw Hank hit number 715, saw all the homers in 98, seen so many huge sports moments in my lifetime, but the Freese triple in the 9th was spectacular, Berkman's hit to tie, then the Freese homer in the 11th... legendary! One of my best friend's wife's son went to Rice and played on the same college team with LB. So awesome to see Berkman get his ring after all these years, and it wasn't a free ride for him, he really earned it. Game 6 was a microcosm of the Cardinal's season. What an unbelievable year.

As a Chicago White Sox Fan I’ve always loved CARDINAL BASEBALL AND THE CARDINAL GREATS such as; Willie McGee, Ozzie Smith, Jack Clark, Will Clark, Daryl Porter, Whitey Hertzog Etc: I still stream that World Series in 1983 against the BREW/CREW which was how they became RIVALS. All in All that 2011 Series IS CLASSIC !! I also believe the 2005 World Series had we’d played each other would have been a 7 game Classic too. Game 7 in 12 innings; Chicago White Sox 7 &, St. Louis Cardinals 6……😝
Having watched every game of the 2011 season, and every game thus far of the 2021 season, they are completely different animals. The 2011 team underperformed in the first half, and, oh yeah, had a Hall of Famer Manager, First Baseman, and Catcher, as well as All-Stars in Right Field, Left Field, Third Base, Shortstop, and a Cy Young winner the Rotation. The 2021 Cardinals are about what I thought they'd be - a team with subpar offense, mediocre pitching, and virtually no depth. They're a slightly above .500 team at best. There is no way in hell they make the playoffs, much less win the World Series. In fact, I feel so confident in that assessment that if the 2021 Cardinals win the World Series, I'll buy you an authentic jersey of the player of your choice. (Yes, I mean the $380 embroidered ones; not the shitty $160 iron-on logo ones.) My money is completely safe.

I have enough respect for you to tell you that I am positive you are wrong, but that I am very sorry for the loss of your grandfather. There are healthier ways to gain closure than by assigning him post-mortem supernatural influence over sporting events.

@@iluvnolangorman4252 i do not own the 2006 set and i never will because of one thing - CHRIS DUNCAN...he was an absolute embarrassment out there in right field...he can't catch a fly ball to save his life......i remember Jim Edmonds shaking his head at him after missing routine fly balls....i just don't care to see that again

FABULOUS!
My Great Aunt dated Lance Lynn’s Dad when they were younger
At 24:31. Would’ve never won the World Series if carp opened his eye.

What about the squirrel?
I hate the fucking 'chiefs bullshit ursurpers, time to give back the crown ya buncha imbiciles
Great season
The Rasmus trade. Best ever.
If I remember correctly they showed this video during a playoff game in ‘12 while a rain delay was going on
Best season best ws ever. Ledgendary stuff. Go cards.
Can we please show a fast replay of this video before the playoffs this year?? One time for the one time while we have Yadi and Pujols. For the city, fans, and culture. give them one more reason to do it all
They just might do it this year too
2006 or 2011 ? Which is the greater underdog story ?
When october comes it will be the 10th anniversary of the 11th title! :D
Bro the Cardinals this year remind me of that 2011 team a bad start but than waking up in August late in year to stun and make playoffs against all odds
Feel like September is the cardinals hot month
What film was this??? . I have a 2011 DVD but there is some extra Cardinal footage on this. Also the one I have has both Cardinal and Rangers interviews
They will not quite
C'mon who can complete with the rally squirrel 😀........
When the Cards get hot. Watch out!
reminiscent of the '64 comeback. it helped that year that the phillies choked
Let’s not forget FREESE!!!
We're the RedBirds
Furcal gave us a boost
They just the Redbird
St Louis Cardinals vs Milwaukee Brewers Rivalry 1982
Damn the texas rangers🇨🇱 were so close. Feel bad for that fan base that has never won a world series
They just won in 2023
This is shaping up just like this season… 2021 WS champs?

@@ITWnate 11 game win streak man
Comparing them to the 2011 team is true because of win streaks to get wild card spot
Baseball just isn’t the same. Idk if it’s because of how good quality the game looks on tv but it just doesn’t hit the same.
It’s just because your team sucks now
