- Episode 5 - Arctic - Cycling The Atlantic Coast - Norway
Day 6 and 7: The Norwegian Coastal Express has taken me 750km north to the small town of Brønnøysund. It is here where the journey to the Arctic begins, but not before a short visit to one of Norway's most iconic mountains. Torghatten has a hole through it that formed over millions of years from erosion. You can literally walk all the way through it! Join me as I show you the jewels of the Helgeland coast as we head to the Arctic Circle.
*Mistake in video: Torghatten is 15km from Brønnøysund (30km round trip).
About the Series: In early May 2023, I set off to document Norway's most famous long-distance route. The Atlantic coast, which is part of the Eurovelo 1, is perhaps the most spectacular coastline in the world. This 6 episode series will take you beyond what you may have seen on UA-cam before. We pull out all the stops to capture this unique area in all its wonder and beauty.

There's nothing better than logging on and seeing Matthew put out another story.
I don't think I've ever watched any of them just once !
Lost for words, so beautiful.
As always, watching your Videos, you make me dreaming. One day, Not far away … I will make the dreams come through …
Mind = Blown. 🤯 Again.
In a ever more busy and online world - your videos are a good reminder of the simple things in life that bring the most joy, a bike, the country and your own power.
Beautiful and inspiring as always! My Nana and Pop immigrated from Norway to New York. My Uncle’s family stills lives on Long Island but we moved to colorful Colorado, a beautiful mountainous state in its own right. I can not express my gratitude strongly enough to display how much the imagery you capture moves me! Not only do I get to explore in part the amazing far flung corners of Norway but because of the perspective Gunstein helps you capture even if I was there cycling next to you I would not see. The grand sweep of a bird’s-eye view of a sweeping vista with moody weather and the scale inserted with a small human looking out. Tusen takk! For a person who has never been to Norway I could not have found a better guide!
Thanks so much. Another stunner👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I wonder why you aren't using a Fara🤔
All the Best, Rob
Awesome! ❤
I believe the story goes that the mountain ended up looking as it did because it was the hat of a troll, that another troll shot an arrow through. Your cave explanation makes a little more sense, would be interesting to know when people started realizing that was how it happened. Fun fact, as late as the 1800s, we still believed that erratics (those mysterious lone boulders in the middle of fields, far from mountainsides, that ended there by being dragged underneath moving glaciers) were put there by trolls.
Great video, good on you for getting Vegvesenet involved with you! Norway would be every cyclist's dream destination if we had the infrastructure and backing needed. Riding here is perilous at times due to traffic and tunnels, with most alternative passes being utterly dilapidated and dangerous, sometimes even impassable, as you have mentioned in other videos. Hope you one day get to spend some more time in Jæren & Rogaland. I think it is the most beautiful place on earth, yet for now, a hidden gem (aside from the Preikestolen hike). I'd love to see Gloppedalsura or Skykula on film! Cheers.
Had a pretty bad day today (election in my hometown largely went to environment-unfriendly populists), so I think I'll unwind with this video❤. Calm delivery and beautiful nature shots.
Such a wonderful landscape ❤ thank you!
I like this pre-tourist season peek at what the costal highway has to offer. Thank you once again for a brilliant video.
Thank you for your stunning camera work and courage to explore and show us Norway! It’s on my trip must for cycling! From 🇨🇦
What a beautiful region through which to cycle - many thanks for capturing the ciews and showing the sights
Breathtaking as always. Incredible mountain tunnel!
What a paradise, thanks for sharing!
❤❤❤
Another epically gorgeous film. Thank you.
Stunnig! As always your videos inspire and show the beauty of Norway! Thank you so much Matthew!
Wonderful! Good to see you again, Matthew! =)
In parts magical, informative, and very, very beautiful.
Wonderful view
Lovely Stuff!
Thank you so much for sharing your adventures. What a beautiful place. And so well filmed. Yet you make it look effortless, which is a real skill. I have watched all your videos more than once! Greetings from Devon in the UK.
Back to the nature 🚴 thanks for your efforts and sharing 🌲
Beautiful video, Thank you. So nice to reminisce about my own bike trip last year cycling the same route
Incredible. I think we need to go there
I love watching your videos, they're superb, and I'm planning a cycling trip to Norway myself. One bit of feedback I'd like to give you is that it is really difficult to hear your voice over the background music you play. You have a very low quiet voice and the music is too loud over the top if it. I struggle and keep having to rewind to catch what you're saying. Maybe trim the music down, or cut out a lot of it while you are narrating. I'll be watching most of your films. Thank you.
Thanks a lot man for sharing the hard job done. Endless beauty ❤. Can we have break down the cost, time, date if some one would like to try the same. Thanks 🌹
Marvelous! How do you manage to visit a spot like Torghatten without any other people? At 5 o clock in the morning 😂? Would like to go on this trip right away but have to wait until next year.... Thanks for those videos of yours!
Than you can visit Bodø as a cultur capitol as well😃it's so beautiful up here as well.
it probably helped a lot that he was there before tourist season really kicked in.
På vei til eller fra Nordkapp er FV17 den beste strekningen sammen med Senja.
so fucking beautiful...thank you!
Your pronounciation has improved a lot! Great job! :)
do you think that you would cycle on Spitsbergen/Longyearbyen in summer?
I tried last year. You need a gun licence or a guide with a gun licence. Unfortunately, neither of which I have.
@@matthewnorway lol, when you say you 'tried', I have an image of a buried MatthewNorway vlog where you try to cycle a route without a gun and get chased back to town by an angry polar bear :p
Yeah... pretty much every country has those. They're called tunnels...and they aren't very new. Not sure why you think that country is the only one.
You don't get it. Do you? A tunnel is man made. This is not. It's a natural hole trough the mountain.
It should be impossible for anyone to be this snotbrained and be alive. Yet here we are. 🤣🤣🤣
Are you even serious?
