    I've been doing crossfit for a year now to test it out so here's my objective pros and cons
    Pros: Definitely the most friendliest and cooperative workout experience. Everyone seems to try to get through it together and make a community unlike a normal gym where I'm usually on my own. The coach I had wouldn't let me do the workouts until I had form down which I thought was very responsible of him though I heard a lot of coaches don't do that so maybe it was for my specific gym (though some workouts can harm you if you don't have the proper form). The workout are down to earth tough and though I have gotten significantly stronger plus I can definitely say I'm more "fit" as in I can do more than just lift weights now.
    Cons: I really don't like some of the forms they try to make you do like the kipping pull ups, I really disagree with those as they can destroy your shoulders (though they don't mind if you just do straight pull ups but it's the idea they get people to think kipping is good I don't like). Even though everyone is a super friendly community (I even refer to my class as family sometimes) there's a level of pretentiousness on who considers themselves athletic. There's no doubt the coaches or the people who play in the games are athletic but the regular gym goers are definitely not. And sometimes, I kinda get tired of people talking about how good or how bad crossfit is. And my biggest complaint is that it's NOT cheap. A crossfit membership is very expensive, so mind that.
    Final thoughts in it, I really like it, but I wouldn't stray away from normal lifting just to do crossfit. I think crossfit is really good conditioning and strength building but it's definitely something to do along side your normal lifting routine. I thought it would honestly be worse than what I heard over the internet but it honestly wasn't. Biggest tip that I found that change my mind on how bad crossfit would be is they give you a choice to not do workouts you may think you might harm yourself in, which is great and they're super respectful about it. I do recommend it if you got the money to spend, if not, stick to your regular routine and add some functional lifts.
    I hope this gives some people some unbiased input into crossfit as all I see in the comments are completely one-sided inputs, so I hope this serves you well if you're considering it! :)

      My problem with crossfit is that in competitions you are rewarded for doing things with speed but you arent required to use proper form. Knowing this, gyms teach people to do things the wrong way in order to get more points. That's why I prefer calisthenics and street workout

      +Anthony Conte True, but even most people at commerical gyms don't have good form either. Some even try to correct my form saying I am leaning forward when squatting. I have to tell them I am using low bar and not high bar right now and you need to learn forward a bit to have the bar inline with the middle of my foot.

      @pedrobrayner4773 8 років тому +15

      Exactly, they are easier on your upper back(so you do more reps), but you work the abs, shoulders and lower back a bit. They also require more of your lungs, its not pure strenght but a bit of aerobics as well. They are called kipping pull-ups or butterfly pull-ups. Sorry about the english, I don't know all the names of the muscles and movements.

    • @pedrobrayner4773
      @pedrobrayner4773 7 років тому +16

      It rips your joints and muscles if you don't know how to perform them, or if you exercise without warming up. The ideia is to get from point A to point B as fast as possible, not to build muscle, otherwise, they would be doing 8-12 reps(strict), and getting enough rest between sets.

      @trevordorflinger3027 8 років тому +10

      +Balsac Teabaghar incorrect form? If you're talking about kipping pull ups, you're mistaken. Crossift incorporates both strict and kipping pull ups. Kipping pull ups are way different than strict pull ups. It's almost like comparing crunches and sit ups. As for injuries, if you do each exercise correct and don't overload yourself, you won't get injured. It's amazing how people get this impression that crossfitters talk down on bodybuilding, but it's obvious from most youtube comments that it's the other way around.

    • @twotonerebel2022
      @twotonerebel2022 8 років тому +21

      +Trevor Dorflinger Coming from someone who's been in the weight lifting business and co owns a gym. Most cross fit is terrible for your body. you're combining quick and sharp moments with heavy weight. it's especially dangerous if you have improper form. Best way to build muscle is to be consistent with fluid weighted motions so that there is less room for error and injury.

    • @dionsekone

      +Clark Wayne Why do anything?

    • @trevordorflinger3027
      @trevordorflinger3027 8 років тому +8

      Alex Baugh Crossfit isn't strictly about building muscle. Bodybuilding on the other hand, is about shaping your body through isolation exercises. Bodybuilding is meant for getting bigger, stronger and looking better. To me, crossfit is more efficient at improving my level of fitness. Yes, there are more injuries in crossfit due to its level of intensity, but if you don't push yourself past your limit, and learn proper form, it's a relatively safe experience. Both bodybuilding and crossfit have their pros and cons, and it's really up to the person on which they prefer.

      Fitzness not really... that's beginners who think they know everything for you. Coaches won't let you even go to a weight that you'll hurt yourself if your form isn't perfect. I've been doing crossfit for a year and a half, starting with the teens class at my box and now I'm in the adult class. There will always be someone not locking their arms or keeping their back straight any gym, not specifically crossfit. Saying improper from is something specifically related to crossfit is like saying you get food poisoning from *only* fish. It's just what you see

    It doesn't matter what people do, as long as they are working out and feeling a sense of accomplishment and bettering themselves, we have no right to criticize. We certainly can't criticize something we don't understand. For example: I admit I thought that kipping pull ups seemed funny but that's actually an accessory to the jerk or clean.

    • @blahblaahblaah
      @blahblaahblaah 8 років тому +3

      +Lester Sanchez Agreed! It really doesn't matter what type of exercise a person is doing, as long as they feel accomplished like you said. Of course in every exercise there is something that may sound or look weird to some people, but it doesn't mean it's wrong.
      I think the biggest misconception that people have about crossfit, is that they teach bad form. I do crossfit myself, and sure the wods are based on how many reps, rounds, etc. but one of the first things we do is learn proper form. If the coaches don't teach you the proper form, then imo they're not real coaches.
      But totes. I totally, 100% agree with ya!

    A lot of crossfit hate here. There are boxes out there that are reckless with their clients, but there are others that have trainers take the time to teach proper form and monitor new clients. The atmosphere is fun and encouraging, and the people have always been nice and supportive, in my experience.
    But just like any intense action, you should to do your homework and make sure that what you're doing is safe and effective. I'm not on the crossfit bandwagon myself, but I took the time to try it for a few months. Make sure that you are at one of those good locations, and that you are staying within your limits.

    So many people spreading the opinion that Crossfit will get you injured. If these people had enough intelligence to actually do their own research, they will see Crossfit as a sport, is not more likely to cause an injury compared to football, weight lifting and a handful of other sports. Do what you enjoy and look after yourself. If you are that worried about being injured, go buy yourself a static cycle.

You can browse the internet for WOD posted by many gyms, do some simpler workouts yourself at a regular gym, and show up to the box for instructions. And, watch a lot of youtube videos for tips and how-to do it.
