You can see where Jay gets his reputation as being a dick from. Talked all over Gary, especially any punchline Gary was going for. A professional trip up.
It's so interesting to see this dynamic when a few years prior they were both permanent guest hosts for Johnny Carson and a lot of TV executives preferred Garry over Jay to take over Johnny's job permanently when he retired but Garry just didn't want to subject himself to that grind of being on every night and went with HBO and I'm so glad he did otherwise we might never have got The Larry Sanders Show
EXACTLY what I was thinking. Plus The Larry Sanders Show used a lot of storylines close to Garry's heart, I think Judd Apatow said that some of the writers would call the character Glarry because the line between the actor and the character was wafer thin
Crazy how Leno was by far the least talented out of himself, Letterman, and Conan…while also being by far the most successful. My guess is his corniness appealed to older/across the board viewers who were faithfully home watching tv at 11:30 pm.
I miss Garry so much. One of the funniest people that ever lived.
jay is so uptight over being the lesser talent and sabotaging everything shandling is doing and Garry just rides the brilliant waves over his head.
Thanks for uploading these. I don't know how the hell Leno got that job.
Seriously. Lord. I was excited to see a Shandling Carson i hadnt before and its this guy 😩
He got the job by beating you in the auditions.
Because he was a great comedian

Remember the episode when Larry Sanders purposely stepped all over Jon Stewart? Might it have been inspired by this awkward exchange?

Thought about that
Leno is stepping all over Garry’s lines.
Leno did whatever he could to throw off Garys timing. He was probably afraid he was going to come in & take his job... kinda like he did 😂😅
Leno just can’t let Garry flow, has to try to get a smart remark in there! You can see how threatened he is.
Jay was pretty defensive around comedians who had more talent then him
Leno was in fact on the Larry Sanders show, in one of the eps in Season 2 called "Performance Artist"
No that actor had a sense of timing and didnt walk over Garry's lines

Now I remember why I never watched Leno. He was so tiresome.
Leno is offensive and not funny.
Hey Leno is a tool
