The quickest wit in the business, and maybe one of the funniest, most clever comedians ever. I don't know what happened that changed his appearance so drastically, but it distracted from his humor later on, and suggested that something deeper was going on in his life. I loved his comedy, in the way that I loved Carlin and Richard Pryor. Such a terrible pity that he died so unexpectedly. Truly one of the greats.
He's so typically Arizonan. We're pretty laid back here. Being in 115 degree weather for months on end will do it to ya! People actually wear pajamas and slippers to the post office. I thought I was the only one til I looked around and the others were wearing the same. High fashion for Arizona is dressing casual like Shandling is in this interview.
This was filmed in 1989 the most forgettable decade in modern fashion, in 1990 you could be arrested for wearing that shirt! Just kidding, I think it got even worse
I think this is George W. Bush's White House. Elected in 88. Who knew when this Letterman appearance happened, we'd have to specify WHICH President Bush?
If ever there was a natural, it was Garry. It's too bad he never had a network show, but I understand he turned down an offer, for whatever reason I do not know. 😎
I always enjoyed Gary immensely, but reports from people who worked for and with him described him as a difficult person of considerable insecurity and mean spiritedness.
that was a fashionably trendy-style worn by men, and women in 1989 * 🎼 Nirvana🎤, for example however, checkered-flannel, button-down shirts are classic, and never out-of-style 😊 Garry Shandling always cared about his appearance 🙌. R.I.P., sir.😔 ❤
I think in 1989 David Letterman was still doing the late night talk show following the Tonight Show with Carson. People would come on dressed more casually. Like someone mentioned, this is exactly how Jerry Seinfeld dressed on his sitcom.
When he was younger, Letterman was great. Found unusual people and made them part of his show. Long before his show ended, he became an unfunny, leftist asskisser.
Used to like Garry Shandling but after doing some research on how he got into show business and thinking about his style of comedy; ; not so much anymore.
I love how Dave stepped on his bowling punchline about League Night, but Garry just shook it off and worked it in a few moments later. What a pro.
I was more impressed with his ad-lib on the rental shoe concession, he got two jokes out of it.
Such a brilliant treasure. I miss Garry Shandling.
Two comic geniuses at their best. What a treat.
One comedic genius. Garry.
Epic comic story-telling. I miss Shandling so much.
I miss Garry Shandlings comedy style so much. I miss Garry.

I think its called getting old.
He looked the way he did from a condition called hyperparathyroidism. He died from a coronary embolism, (blood clot). Sadly at only 66.
Garry was the best!
@@johnsjohnson448 He had serious medical problems related to being hit by a car and having his pancreas removed .
@@johnsjohnson448 not plastic surgery.
My god he was a legend. Classic timing and humor genius.
Two true greats crossing paths
We miss him 😢
I love his dry humor!!!
You can see Gary's and Letterman's friendship come out when he starts messing about Gary's girlfriend. Couple of old friends ribbing each other
Ribbed for our pleasure
"Sally Jessy Raphael" - a standard eighties punchline.
I liked her initially.
A great appearance!
Gary Shandling pure 80's!!!
I LOVE Garys laugh😁😁

When I lived in Arizona people wore pajamas and slippers to work, in an office🤣
Seeing the two of them … and now we have Jimmy Fallon. The world’s most inept interviewer.
I know where Seinfeld got his fashion sense from now.
Where?
Curb your enthusiasm is a COMPLETE RIP-OFF TO THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW
@@kikeheebchinkjigaboo6631 Larry Sanders was a good show. I'm sure some people like Chuck Berry more than they like the Beatles.
This was filmed in 1989 the most forgettable decade in modern fashion, in 1990 you could be arrested for wearing that shirt! Just kidding, I think it got even worse
Delightful story.
He doesn't have to work blue. He puts on a show you can bring your wife to and not be embarrassed.
Is this man wearing 4’s? Garry Shandling was a lifelong hooper
My mom said she bumped into him in Las Vegas back in the early 90’s.
He was so funny.
Nice shirt on Garry Dave ...was he a part-time Logger? Worked in the log camps up North, eh
The funniest Garry Shandling appearance on any Letterman's shows!!!
The visit to the Reagan's White House is amazingly funny...
I think this is George W. Bush's White House. Elected in 88. Who knew when this Letterman appearance happened, we'd have to specify WHICH President Bush?
It was the Senior Bush, George H.W. Bush, the one after Reagan.
He was as good as they come
This clip is hapfway over. How do you like it so far? We’re almost to the part where I start to whistle
Bro was dripping in 89
He was quite funny and quick wit.
9:05 what is the band playing? sounds familiar..
"Cold As Ice", by Foreigner !!!!! :)
God bless the internet.
Build the middle size and upgrade in future with a second floor, who needs all that air above the cars?

Funny guy!
Hey Now, Gary. 143! Ack ack.
was on showtime
No band?

Wasn't that kind of the point of Larry Sanders?
I like Shandling but this was really drawn out.
I can't see past the puffy shirt.
He ran into a low talker before the show
Weird seeing Larry Sanders as the guest on a talk show.
The 80s-90s were weird for clothing.
Wow! Billy Joel was on the show ...how did you pay for that Davo? ...whose credit card, did that go on?
The Advertisers who passed it onto the consumer. Duh!

Man, I feel bad whenever I think about how crappy is Letterman's show on Netflix.
bells, whistles, more your thing?
Good shows are my thing. Different from you, I don't tend to follow people in a cattle-like way. That show is garbage.
